Just finished watching The Incredible Melting Man

What should have been maybe a 20 minutes film gets padded to almost 90 minutes. FX were solid, but I was getting annoyed by so many shots of people doing nothing, or walking, or just staring off into the distance.

About to watch William Castle's Macabre for the first time. I'm a little worried, since the movie warns that it's so frightening that people in the theater should check their friends and loved ones for medical emergencies (including fear-induced heart attacks). But I'm watching this by myself. If I'm not back in 75 minutes, someone contact the authorities.

Congrats! I've been taking my time with it this time out and have been using Theme Night titles for the checklist at every opportunity. With that strategy it'll be Halloween before I complete it. Looks like I need to stop that nonsense and get busy on it, eh?

The missing ratings like GP and all the items that used to be on previous years checklists. It's the only way to be sure.

What's the best movie you guys have seen for the challenge this year? Something new for you.
Of first time viewings, I was very pleasantly surprised by Satan's Little Helper. I have it on a 3 movie set with Spliced and Blood Gnome, so I wasn't expecting much. It turned out to be so much better than I'd have ever dreamed possible. Good stuff.

As for my participation in this challenge, my next movie will be number 63. At this time last year, I was only at 35. So, I am well ahead of that pace. I just wish I had enough time to watch even more. Barring some sort of injury that puts me out of work, I don't think I'll ever hit my numbers from years past.

Hard to pick just one, but several of the subset choices have been outstanding films.

This was a film I wanted to see as a child but was unable to because of the MPAA and my parents. Finally tracked it down a couple years ago and was very disappointed. The years of anticipation had built it up way too far.

I'm about 70 films behind last year's pace.

I don't know if I could pick just one because I've seen so many good movies this year. I've been really happy. I think I've only had one total dud that I've hated. I will say though that I've found myself a new favorite slasher movie ("Curtains") and since I love slashers so much, that was a great find for me.

I only hit 11 movies last year (!!!!!!!!!) so I'm happy with my 40 movies so far.

I was a bit disappointed by Torso. Although the score was excellent, the ending was abrupt and the film never really engaged me fully.

My internet connection was rather poor during the theme night so Trollhunter kept pausing to load, but watching it now, and it is looking like a very enjoyable movie.

I enjoyed Trollhunter a lot, in particular the depiction of the bureaucracy and paperwork involved in troll hunting. Easily my favorite first time viewing this year, in an as-yet underwhelming field.

Some of my better first time viewings this challenge so far have been:
Sauna
Santa Sangre
[Rec]2
The Most Dangerous Game
Wild Zero

Torso did not live up to the hype for me either. Too many red herrings that there were no meaningful suspects and the ending was so abrupt it gave me whiplash.

I haven't watched enough new movies to have a favorite yet, although I did like Scream 4 a lot. I keep telling myself to watch new material, but then I keep reaching for movies that I know and love.

Started off today's theme by watching Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon. I swear I enjoy this one more every time I watch it. Bring on the sequel!

Watched the Thing (2011) last night and I enjoyed it. Having said that, it is a lot like watching a fairly talented artist recreate the Mona Lisa and change the landscape behind her a little.

Every year I try to watch at least one totally horrid, absolutely ridiculous flick. In the past it's been the Mulva movies or Death Bed. Today, urgh, being Saturday morning I sat down to Terror Toons. Found it over on Youtube. Oy, man, was this horrible!

I'm seeing this on Monday. As with all modern remakes (or prequel in this case), my expectations are relatively low. I'm going to watch the original and the Carpenter version tomorrow night.

I feel your pain. Last year I was only able to stream at certain times because my connection fluctuated something terrible and couldn't do any HD.

This year I'm relishing having a stable connection and streaming in HD, but, of course, the equipment failures are taking over ...again.

Sounds like a great double feature. Maybe I'll find a theme day that matches this and go for the triple.

It is a decent "imitation". I think the original is so great, that I was more forgiving for this one's flaws. Plus it ties in very nicely to the OG.

I have hit what I would call my first major obstacle of this challenge. Going for something that would count for the horror host and Frankenstein items on the checklist, I selected the Elvira's Movie Macabre episode of Frankenstein's Castle of Freaks. Wow. This thing is boring! I should have just gone with my original plan of watching two MST3K eps and counting one toward horror host. Ugh. 40 more minutes to go ...

Go to their facebook and tell friends to help out and donate for the cause. I think I might so I can be an extra for the film.

Today is going to be a Leprechaun kind of day. Got the first 4 on DVD, but missing the Hood ones. Wish I had a good place to buy DVDs around here so I can get those. Might throw in some Vincent Price films as well. Really digging the classic black & white films.

If anyone's looking for some slapstick, turn off your brain comedy for a lazy Saturday afternoon streaming on Netflix there's...

The Alan Smithee directed Ghost Fever with Sherman Hemsley.

The RazzieŽ Award-winning Haunted Honeymoon with Gene Wilder.

Today's subset pick Poultrygeist is streaming on Hulu:

http://www.hulu.com/watch/149013/pou...r-and-Suspense

And Butterfinger the 13th debuted today:

http://www.fearnet.com/movies/b24188...nger_13th.html

Don't know what it is, but it's directed by Rob Lowe and only 37 minutes long. I'm sold.
