I think that you would certainly be right.

I actually came back to add the caveat of as long as they weren't from VHS masters as those look worse with the weird jagged edges.

Blu-ray players are no longer allowed to have component outputs.

Obviously that doesn't affect existing players, but it affects the ability to buy a player new, or future availability of component players as the ones currently out there age.

Cute, but does it work with HDCP? If the player doesn't detect HDCP-compliance on the other end of the HDMI port, won't it refuse to output?

According to monoprice tech support the item is DHCP compatible.

I never buy anything used unless it's long out of print, and I buy at stores rather than online whenever possible because of things like this.

I learned a long time ago that other people's definition of "like new" is not even close to mine. Every once in a while I buy something OOP on eBay and am reminded of this unfortunate fact.

Re: Not meant to own this DVD...

I've purchased countless DVDs from Ebay, been buying them there (as well as B&M stores, Amazon, Deep Discount, Barnes & Noble, etc.) for several years now. 99.8% of the time, anything I've purchased at Ebay has been true to the description, although I have had a few that weren't. All in all, I've had pretty good experiences with Ebay, with the exception of maybe 3 or 4 auctions over the years which were resolved to my satisfaction. I am very picky about the DVDs I buy, so if they aren't Like New, I'm bitching about it. I'd say that anyone who had consistently bad experiences with Ebay didn't do their homework beforehand. -kd5-

Re: Not meant to own this DVD...

My brother bought one of these a couple of years ago, I'll have to get in touch with him and ask him how it worked out. He's since bought a new TV which I'm guessing has HDMI capabilities so maybe he still has this laying around. -kd5-
