I watched the hell out of Homicide during its original run. It was awfully frustrating knowing that my friends and I constituted 37% of its ratings. I still haven't seen The Wire or Treme, but friends of mine who have insist that I'll find them spiritual continuations of Homicide.

I used to watch Homicide regularly as well. Phenomenal show. I'm pleased to see Melissa Leo doing so well on the big screen lately, but the whole cast was superb. I've had the massive file-cabinet box set for years, but haven't cracked it yet.

Streamed Superman/Shazam! The Return of Black Adam from Netflix just now. I've seen The Spectre and Jonah Hex shorts before (though these are slightly expanded). Quite an enjoyable anthology of short films, really. I loved Jonah Hex; it's one of the best things so far in the line of DCU animated DTV content. Good stuff.

I'm doing pretty good so far. If I'm lucky, I'll barely squeak by and finish everything I want to. Odds are I won't but I'll only be a handful short from my goal, which I'll carry on with until I finish.

I'll have 1 of my lists finished tonight. After that, 4 more to go

I'm making pretty good progress on my challenge so far, on disc 3 of S1 of Dogfights now. Changing it up some with some other documentaries in the middle to break it up too.

Making great progress on my challenge. On disc 1 of Season 2 of Star Trek. Loving the series so far. Granted there are some weak episodes.

Season 2 was my personal favorite of the three. The third season has more good episodes than is generally admitted, but it definitely has the lion's share of the weaker episodes of the entire series.

I've been swamped with school so Bette will have to wait until next week.

You can always save THE VIRGIN QUEEN and ELIZABETH THE QUEEN (aka THE PRIVATE LIVES OF ELIZABETH AND ESSEX) for the historical challenge. And maybe even THE SISTERS, which is about the San Francisco Earthquake.

My Chuck was starting to suck, but I fit in two episodes last night. I've seen these and a few others from season 2 before, but I don't mind rewatching.

NBA Playoffs has kept me from watching as much as I would like, but I did squeeze in an episode of Miami Vice last night.

I've set on "short" TV seasons. If anyone has any ideas for that, feel free to share. For now, I'm pulling out things like Parks and Recreation season 1 and lots of BBC stuff.

Re: May 2011 Make-Your-Own Challenge Discussion Thread

Trevor, Better Off Ted is a great show, only two seasons total. I know Season 1 and 2 are available to stream on Netflix, so you might want to check that out.

Also, if you haven't seen it already...WATCH TERRIERS NOW. Easily one of my favorite television shows of all time; I like it so much that I'm considering just buying the videos from Amazon/iTunes (something I've never done before), even though it might eventually make its way to DVD in the not-too-distant future.

---

I'm doing just fine on my own challenge. I'm done with Volume 3 of Futurama and am going back to The Simpsons for now. I watched Season 1 a few months back, so am starting on Season 2 instead. "Bart Gets An F" is one of my favorite episodes; I never fail to laugh at the end when Bart says, "I got a D minus, I passed! I got a D minus, I passed! I...kissed the teacher! Bleck."

I'm still plugging along on Homicide and I now believe that a Play All feature should be mandatory on all TV-on-DVD sets.

Wow, this has turned into an unofficial TV on DVD challenge. I guess January wasn't enough for some of us (myself included).

I believe Castle and Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles were both mid-season replacements. The Office started with a short season too (I remember the cheap DVD).

And of course a lot of HBO would qualify.

Thanks! I've been meaning to check out Terriers, but it is right at the border of being too "long" for this Challenge. I'm looking for things where the entire season/series can be watched in one long evening. 13 (16?) hour long episodes may be pushing it.

But I own one season of Better Off Ted and will put that in my pile, and stream the other. 13 half-hour episodes per season is perfect.

As much as I enjoy watching movies, I find watching television to be much more enjoyable on a regular basis. I still watch a ton of movies, but it seems like I watch more TV on DVD and watch a few movies in between seasons or shows.

I watch the complete series of Seinfeld at least once a year, if not once every six months. And while I am undertaking The Simpsons and Futurama for this challenge, it isn't as though these are shows I watch every once in a while either; they get plenty of repeat viewings from me; I just wanted to watch 'em again and this challenge seemed like as good a time as any, lol.

As long as its on your radar, lol. Definitely check it out though. It's 13 episodes, but once you get started you won't want it to end.

---

If you're into anime, FLCL is only 6-episodes long, so you could easily knock it out in one sitting. But if you don't like anime or are sort of "meh" about it, then I would suggest steering clear of it.

If you've been contemplating checking out Moral Orel, now might be a good time. There are 43 episodes, but they're more or less 11 minutes long, so you're only looking at 7-8 hours. Not sure if it's available for streaming though.

You mentioned BBC shows. The entire UK Office and Extras (both have 12 episodes and a Christmas special) are each only around 7 hours long in total. It wasn't on BBC, but Spaced was only 14 half-hour episodes, so 7 hours for the entire series as well.

I think it's also a factor of how much longer TV seasons take to watch. They're more likely to stack up in our piles, and the gorgeability factor makes them well-suited to challenges. Doesn't hurt that we also just came off the TV-is-banned challenge!

You could watch TV only during most of the Challenges if you really wanted to. The bottom line is, it's best to allow as much as possible to count (especially for this Challenge) since you're the only one who can look at your collection (or DVR, or Netflix queue, etc.) and see what "needs" to be watched.
