Re: 24: The Complete Series - December 14th

Thanks for the pictures. I knew that's what the set would look like. The completist in me will still probably pick it up on down the road when it drops below $100.

And yeah, Angel goes on sale all the time, usually for below $60, so I could see this set dropping significantly in price a few years from now, especially around the time the theatrical movie gets released.

Re: 24: The Complete Series - December 14th

Is there any description of the special features included? Seems like the "Lost" fans got the blown out, amazing box set and that "24" was an after thought?

And why wasn't this also released on Blu?

Re: 24: The Complete Series - December 14th

I'd check TVShowsOnDVD.com, I'm sure they have a breakdown.

But, just based on the pictures provided...

These discs are nothing new. They are just the recent repackagings in plastic cases, housed in a larger box. So if you have the sets in the slim cases or the Viva packaging, then you have all of the content on the seasons themselves. I doubt the discs included with Season One are the ones from the Special Edition.

The only thing new seems to be a booklet, a bonus disc, and the larger box itself.

Re: 24: The Complete Series - December 14th

Thanks Kstu.

Does anyone here have the 24 box set of season 1-5 that came in a briefcase? I guess it's discontinued, but I've always wanted to see what that set looked like.

It should have the following bonus material:

There is also a barebones season 1 set that's been out for years and I was interested to see if FOX didn't screw fans out of the special edition season 1 set.

Also, what is on the exclusive bonus disc?

I already own every single season including season 1 special edition. I will pick up season 8 on Tuesday and call it a day on my 24 collection.
If I remember correctly, when FOX did the re-repackaging, they released the SE of season 1, just without the tin.

Re: 24: The Complete Series - December 14th

All of the press releases and listings for the set have The Complete Series as having 56 Discs. Amazon specifically lists The Complete Series as 56 Discs with the Special Edition of Season 1 and a Bonus Disc.

According to my collection, the disc breakdown is as follows:
  • Season 1 (6)
  • Season 2 (7)
  • Season 3 (7)
  • Season 4 (7)
  • Season 5 (7)
  • Season 6 (7)
  • Season 7 (6)
  • Redemption (2)

Season 8 is reported to be 6 discs.

If you add all of those up (ignoring the extra disc from the Season One: Special Edition), that's 55 Discs total.

So either...

...The Complete Series includes the extra disc from the Season One: Special Edition release and the bonus disc, which brings it to 57 Discs total, and all of the press releases listing 56 discs are incorrect (overlooking the bonus disc) but Amazon's listing of including the Special Edition is correct; or

...The Complete Series does not include the extra disc from the Season One: Special Edition, but does include the bonus disc, which brings it to 56 Discs total, and all of the press releases listing 56 discs are correct, but Amazon's listing of including Season One: Special Edition is incorrect.

---

My guess now is that this actually does include Season One: Special Edition and all of the press talking about 56 discs just reflects the show itself, ignoring the bonus disc.

Re: 24: The Complete Series - December 14th

Eventually Amity will be able to tell us how many discs his S1 has. It bugs me a little that they don't do them all in the thicker clear plastic cases, but it's the same with or without the box, so, whatever.

Cool, thanks Amity!! Glad FOX gave fans the S1 Special Edition in the complete series.

BTW, if you already own every single season set, but still have the barebones season 1 set, it's a very worthy upgrade to get the tin box special edition. The bonus material is very worth it.

Looks like if you already own every single season (and are just waiting to get season 8), there is no need to double dip. I love 24 to death, but I'm not going to double dip just to get a 1 hour bonus disc.

I asked Jon Casar if he knew if we would be seeing seasons 1-6 on blu anytime and he said they are working on bluray releases for the first 6 seasons. he wasnt sure about a box set but definately individual releases of the first 6 seasons as well as Redemption. Indicated Redemption might see a bluray release before the remaining individual seasons. He also let it slip Tony scott is in final negotiations to direct the 24 movie when another contestant asked about the movie.

I want it, but I've been holding out on a Blu release.

Tony Scott would be the perfect director for a 24 movie. And that's probably when/if they'll release the series in blu-ray, to synergize with the movie.

cool dvd pics and 24 movie info!

And thanks for the pics of the autographs. I do fan mail sometimes and those are good reference pics. My Jon Voight fan mail autograph looks right compared to your IP success.

Look at the West Wing: The Complete series. It ran 7 seasons and when it came out 4 years ago with an MSRP of $300, it was around $170 on sale, which is the price I paid for it. It's still around $200 bucks in stores like Best Buy and it's never on sale, although you can buy it on Amazon for $144.

Also, The Xfiles: The Complete Series has an MSRP of $329 and can be bought on Amazon for around $150 and it's been out for over 3 years.

or even another FOX product Angel: The Complete series. It's MSRP is $130 and it's being sold for $115 brand new on Amazon and it's also been out for over 3 years.

Complete series sets like this will never ever drop to less than 1/4 MSRP price brand new. That's just nonsense.
I agree, about the best you can get them for is $10/season. I think the best price on Buffy was at Amazon for 69.99. Angel has been a little below $50 (five seasons) and the best I've seen X-Files has been around $85. Same with Seinfeld.

And yes, West Wing was $75 one BF morning -- but that's still around $10 a season --- and it hasn't been anywhere near that before or since.

I'm not saying $50 is impossible, buf for a prime show (not one from the 80's ), I would expect the best to be $10/season (or a little below).

Nonsense? Are you new to DVDTalk? All the titles you mention above have been found for much cheaper than you mention, as others have documented. And those were just the "standard" deals, not even counting various coupon deals or used.

I'll have it for $50 within 2 years.

Re: 24: The Complete Series - December 14th

$50 for 8 seasons at around $6.25 a season? Have you seen 24 being sold for that brand spanking new? Amazon and Best Buy has never sold a season of 24 on DVD for around $6 brand new. I don't recall it even on Black Friday. The cheapest any season for 24 has been sold for is $9.99. If you also count 24 Redemption, that runs at about $5 a season. And if FOX ever releases the complete series on Blu-Ray, there is no way your going to find it for $50 or less brand new.

And I'm talking about brand spanking new. More power to you if your so confidant you can find it that cheap new or used.

I work at the 20th Century FOX lot here in LA and the studio store is selling the complete series to employees on Tuesday at $139 brand new.

Well, there was that one time when you could pick up 5 seasons brand new at Best Buy for 20 something total, though that situation was kind of unique.

Edit: MLBFan24 beat me to it while I was trying to find a link.

Re: 24: The Complete Series - December 14th

Okay, but that's an extremely rare anomaly. And do you really think FOX would ever be that stupid ever again and sell 8 seasons for $25?

And it seems like most of you aren't even interested in a complete series DVD set of 24 unless it's Blu-Ray and IMO a new Blu-Ray set of all 8 seasons plus Redemption would never sell below $50 at least within the first 3-4 years of being out.

Yes it is. When I work on Sunday's I see them around the studio. I work in the cable sports division of FOX and I have access to discounted FOX BR's and DVD's (usually 60-70% off MSRP) at the studio store.
