just picked up Batman Under the Red Hood best buy exclusive blu-ray for 6.99. Seems like a great start for me on this challenge. I'm not that huge of a animation buff, anyone want to give me some recommendation on more animated marvel/dc comics stuff?

"Oldest title" and "Newest title" refer to the production year of content, whereas "Qualifying" refers to when you personally bought the title. Let's say you bought Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs on Blu-ray last year. It might be that it's the "oldest title" in your library, being 70 years old, but if you haven't bought anything else what qualifies for this challenge since then, it would also count as your "newest qualifying title" because it's the most recent addition to your library.

Oldest title as in year made. Let's say you have Steamboat Willie (1928) on some DVD and you don't have any other animation stuff older than that year. Steamboat Willie is what you'd use.

If we pretend that you just bought the DVD that has it, then it could also count as the Newest title you bought.

I think that most people, even we nerds in this Challenge, don't track things like when they bought stuff, or what shorts are on movie discs, so some of the checklist stuff is going to be rough guesses.

So, let me get this straight:

"Oldest title" = oldest film/cartoon, by year of production, in my collection, e.g. something from the silent era. (I'm sure I have some silent Disneys and Fleischers in my collection.)

"Oldest title I've bought" = the very first animated title I bought on VHS. This is tough, because I bought a bunch of cartoon tapes when my daughter was little and my oldest is bound to be one of those. I'm just not sure which one. I'll just pick one tape from that group that I think was probably the first of them and use that.

"Newest title" = The newest animated film/TV show in my collection, i.e., most recently made, probably a recent anime TV series like "Naruto Shippuden" or something or the latest Pokemon movie.

"Newest title I've bought" = whatever my last animated purchase was, no matter what the production date.

And if you don't know what's the oldest thing you've bought, just wing it. In my unwatched collection threads, I just go with whatever I bought in the very first unwatched thread since I have no clue what it really is.

Question about the checklist, can you move things around as you wish as the days go on, or is something stuck once you place it?

i.e. I watched a bunch of Animaniacs last night so I put it under A on the checklist, could I change it in a few days to, say, 1990 later to open up ABC for something else?

No need. You can use a title multiple times, so Animaniacs would count for "A" and the 1990s.

Yep. If you want the extra challenge you can limit yourself to only using an item once per checklist; or you can use it for 2, 3, 4, or even more items if applicable.

I think I once completed a ~100 item checklist with ~35 films.
That's awesome MC! I don't think I've ever seen it that way before. The "official" way is "101", right?

I believe the on-screen title is spelled out, and was that way on the original posters. In subsequent years, Disney has gotten lazy and just put up the "101" on DVD covers, etc.

I've just found my first real find of this challenge. I've had many chances to watch The Secret of NIMH but I can't recall watching it all the way through until tonight. It's a great movie and perfect to watch with the family. I hope I can find a lot more like this one. If anyone is interested in trying it it's on HDNET Movies.

Any experts on the DC and Marvel animation here? I've been buying pretty much all of them, but have watched very few. Any of them need to be watched in any particular order?

I can't speak for the Marvel titles, but there's no continuity among the DC titles that needs to be respected. Feel free to jump around as you see fit. The forthcoming Superman/Batman: Apocalypse followed Superman/Batman: Public Enemies in the comic series, but 1) there's nothing really connecting the two stories as best I recall and 2) it's not out yet anyway.

• Static Shock: Season 1 & Most Of Season 2
• The New Batman Adventures: Seasons 1 & 2
• Static Shock: Rest Of Season 2 & Most Of Season 3
• Batman: Mystery Of The Batwoman
• Justice League: Seasons 1 & 2
• Static Shock: Rest Of Season 3 & Season 4
• Justice League Unlimited: Seasons 1 & 2
• Batman Beyond: Seasons 1-3
• The Zeta Project
• Batman Beyond: Return Of The Joker

There's also the Gotham Girls and Lobo Web Series that were done in Flash, but they don't really share the continuity as directly; Lobo takes place in some other galaxy and never references the DCAU, but Gotham Girls supposedly takes place before Justice League and the characters are sort of done in the same style as The New Batman Adventures.

Keep in mind that some episodes or movies involve flashbacks, time travel, or run concurrently with others. But that's a rough order to watch them in to keep continuity. I know that Batman Beyond and Zeta Project run concurrently after Zeta Project Episode of Batman Beyond. Although really if you watch stuff out of order it isn't the end of the world, especially when we're talking about the shows that aren't available on DVD yet (the rest of Static Shock and The Zeta Project).

EDIT: But yeah, if you're talking about the new DC Direct-to-DVD Titles there is no continuity.

Yeah, seeing that comprehensive DCU timeline made me realize you might not have just been asking about the recent crop of DTV animated features. I hadn't even thought about all the previous animated series and features, which really do adhere to, and grow, a pretty clear continuity.

Unaffected by that continuity, though, are Teen Titans (just watch them in order, seasons 1-5, and then the feature, Trouble in Tokyo), The Batman (which I've never seen, but again, there are five seasons and a feature, The Batman vs. Dracula, which I believe comes between seasons 1 and 2), or Krypto, the series based on Superman's dog which, near as I can tell, has absolutely no connection to any other animated series or features.

The only two other things I've seen that are above average are Batman Beyond: Return Of The Joker and Batman: The Animated Series.

I just discovered Greg the Bunny and absolutely love it. I just have the Fox series, are the IFC seasons as good?

I'll let you know in a few days once I get to it, as it's on my queue. I loved the FOX series when it was on the air and was sad to see it go, and just recently picked up the IFC series and am looking forward to watching it. Additionally, if you like Greg The Bunny there is also Warren The Ape which now airs on MTV and is supposed to be pretty good. I haven't watched it yet because I have a backlog as it is, but will check it out at some point.
