Re: August Animation Challenge 2010 - Discussion Thread
Crud, I figured this one would be easy for me to watch stuff with my kids, but here I am halfway through the month with a big fat zero. I don't know if it's worth it to pound out a few and make a list just to end up in the bottom group again. My self-esteem hangs in the balance.
Besides, with your post, you've contributed more to the Challenge than some people in past Challenges who watched dozens but never say a word.
And technically, we're not halfway yet...

Re: August Animation Challenge 2010 - Discussion Thread
I appreciate the encouragement and always like how people have said that the goal is to encourage the community and that watching 1 is as good as watching Zack Snyder's Grecian-abs movie. I just happened to get a bit discouraged because I started the sci-fi challenge like a house on fire (for me at least; no chance I was breaking 100) then stumbled and ended up in the bottom tier again.
I do like participating in the discussions (and already have in this thread without watching anything) so I guess I'll see if I can queue something up and start a list (unlike previous, I haven't reserved yet and figured I'd start when I had something to post).
Thanks, Trevor and MP.

Puppet shows? That's the one category I'm having trouble with. All I can think of are Muppets stuff and all those old adventure/sci-fi marionette shows like "Captain Scarlett" and "Thunderbirds." I doubt that I have any of this stuff in my collection, not even a Muppets movie or even an old "Beany and Cecil" episode.
What else qualifies in this category that I'm not thinking of?
Thanks.

For my 26th entry I spent all day on YouTube with suggestions from the GAC Forums YouTube Thread.
I saw some great stuff I'd never even heard of.
I really liked the Honey Halfwitch cartoons.
Anybody have any good YouTube recomendations for Tomorrow when I also won't have access to a DVD player?

I watched a bunch of youtube stuff my first few days and most of those were good. Check out the 3 Russian Winnie the Pooh videos for starters.

Watched 9 for the first time and found it enjoyable. The animation was gorgeous though the plot was a bit thin.
Now that I've rewatched Fantasia and The Secret of NIMH for the first time in years, I can't wait until they're released on blu.

Just re-watched Batman: Mask of the Phantasm for the first time in a while. I still maintain it's the best Bat-movie of the 90s. A local theater did a midnight screening of this back in July and they did it on the one weekend I was out of town and couldn't attend. At least I saw it in a theater when it was originally released.

Regarding the list thread, I've noticed that when I ever go to page 1 of that thread it's almost as if the thread is too large to fit on my screen. Finally decided to look a bit closer just now and it appears like it might be due to the large images in Numes' list.
Am I the only one noticing this? If so, I'll just suck it up and live with it.
If others are seeing the same thing, I'd kindly request for Numes to shrink things down just a bit since it's driving me batty.

Something Weird got back to me over the weekend and said they're offering Volumes 1 & 2 of the American Industrial Cartoon Revolution. They just had a better description for volume 5, so that's still there for a better idea of what they're about.

Looks fine on my laptop, only "problem" is that I'd have to scroll to see the rightmost images. But all the text and other posts are fine.

Not a big deal. If I bookmark my individual list post and update it that way, it likely wouldn't be an issue.

I've been working my way through the checklist, and its pretty easy to fill one of the foreign language slots with anime, but what are some good places to look for good animation in a second language?

Got a question. The night before last, I watched Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen with the audio commentary track. Is that eligible for inclusion? I hadn't watched it with the challenge in mind, but I figure since I watched it anyway, if it counts I may as well add it to my list.

unless you already have Avatar in those categories

You can also put it in the checklist for "most loathed" and "worst script" and "worst acting".

I also refuse to believe that the Terminator like female in this movie and the large Transformer like robot in Terminator: Salvation is just a coincidence.

While I was listening to the commentary track, Michael Bay pointed out one of the Decepticons in the final desert battle clearly has T-1000 imprinted on him. The reason is that he was at ILM and caught a glimpse of the work being done for Terminator: Salvation and was inspired to sneak that in as an easter egg.

speaking of Transformer's and terrible acting, in the latest issue of UK's The Word, they include the film and Megan's inability to acti: " Megan Fox tries to act in Transfomers: Michael Bay's Transformers! See state of the art CGI tested to its limit to create an inhuman simulacrum of life! Oh, and there are some giant robots in it as well. Starring Megan Fox as Craptimus Prime"
if I find the time, I'll try to watch the second movie since I fell asleep on it in the theatres, all that noise and mayhem and I managed to fall asleep on it, go figure - well, it IS 150 minutes of sheer tedium.
