So I got an email from my supposed "grandma" that tore me apart in ways that I cant even begin to describe. Ya see it goes like this...I like to buy movies. I have a decent enough job where I can buy movies and still have plenty left over for bills and what not. A couple weeks ago my grandma sent me two emails pretty much telling me how lame I am but with a "grandma" kinda feel to it. She had to have known she was being mean, but still signed it "love grandma"...i wont go into detail about the awful things she said, but i will say this...she told me that I need professional help because i buy movies. I buy probably 4 a month give or take. Here is why this angers me. My sister who will go unnamed does drugs, drinks, parties, has two kids, is an all around bad apple. No one in my family EVER tells her that maybe she should stop or get help. I dont drink, smoke, do drugs, or even really go out all that much for that matter. I do have a son now, but thats really besides the point. Now I ask you...why would I be the one that needs professional help? I agree i do treat DVD's like an addiction, but if im living within my means isnt it a fairly safe addiction to have? Old people right?

I dunno ,I don't think that buying 4 DVDs in a month would qualify as being an addiction?
This month alone I bought around 30 DVDs.....now that might be closer to an addiction.

Two things jump out at me...

1) Sounds like grandma has given up on your sister so she's picking on you

2) Maybe if you start doing drugs your grandma will leave you alone

Grandma's problem is she doesn't have enough to occupy her mind. Show Grandma how to review Grandpa's browser history, cache and cookies. That should give her something else to focus her attention on.

My grandmother's sole source of joy is bitching about other people. The best thing you can do is refuse to even acknowledge it & keep a cordial distance. Unless you're borrowing money from her for bills because you spent all your money on DVD's, I can't even comprehend how this is any of her business.

Actually, see if she'll pay for you to enroll in an addiction program. The chicks you'll meet in those are crazy fun.

Fuck man...I'm in college BARELY able to survive off what I make ($400 a week) cuz of my movie craze (DAMN YOU, BLU-RAY!!!!). Which were I more responsible is more than enough to live fine but...I love movies and it's my passion to create them therefore...Film major buying movies isn't that bad. I actually have a monthly movie budget...hahaha!

Does your grandmother hate movies in general? One of my grandfathers was a projectionist during the golden age so it was never a problem.
