To Sir with Love - $34.98 / $79.98

Really? Wow, maybe I'll unload the still sealed extra copy I picked up Big Lots last spring for $3.

...then again, maybe not. Plenty of copies available on E-bay right now, and most seem to be hovering around the $20-$30 range with no takers.

I was so pissed today! I walked into my local Goodwill and starting looking through the 25cent VHS tapes in hopes of finding some obscure titles not on DVD or hard to get on DVD. And what do I see...? The Little Mermaid with it's original recalled "penis castle" artwork. I was over excited to have found such a collectors item. However on closer inspection the artwork was just a well done copy. Probably for a old mom&pop rental store or something. It totally fooled me at first. Ohh well...

That's why I don't put much stock in Amazon Marketplace as a seller's guide.
Plenty of times in the past I've put stuff on ebay that would close at about 50%-60% of what the same was being listed on AM.

Ya, and I sold two TO SIR WITH LOVE discs for over $90 each on Amazon in the last two days, so sometimes you get more when YOU set the price.

Actually, DVDs at Amazon sell at a much higher price than the same DVD at ebay. Buyers and sellers have lost trust on ebay, hence the lower prices. Amazon is a more secure place to buy and sell DVDs, although they also have their problems and a take a higher % from sellers.

If the Warner Archive venture is successful (i.e., they can generate decent sales at a price point of $10 or more), I would guess that a lot of these OOP catalogue titles both from Warner and the other major studios will show up in a burn-on-demand format.

Burn-on-demand is a no brainer for the studios. There's no overhead other than the cost of setting up the website and they already have the masters for these movies. I doubt these OOP titles will be the first ones the studios release on their own "archive" formats, but look for them to be gradually be re-released on "burn on demand" over a period of time.

I have no idea if it's in this thread, but I just unloaded my never-watched Disney 2-disc of My Neighbor Totoro on Amazon.com for $85.

Most likely...and I hope so as it would be a shame for the classics to be not available form any place other than from people asking overly high prices. That being said though there will always be completists/collectors that will want the original release and not the burn on demand version.

Holy bajebus ...I had no idea about this. Proves this is a great thread idea for one, and two, I need to round out my Ghibli collection immediately. Thankfully that one is categorized as owned! Now if I knew of any pending Blu-ray release and considering it's still sealed I'd easily so sell this .....

Is the price for Walking Tall Trilogy for the stand-alone DVDs or the three DVDs that came with the box (as a set)?

I'm kicking myself now for not grabbing more of those Roger Corman New Concorde DVDs when they were cheap too!

New 2-Disc will be out on March 2nd 2010 (along with new 2-discs of Kiki's Delivery Service and Castle in the Sky, and yes, the release of Ponyo), The Bits says a Blu-Ray is in the works but much farther off (as long as a year from now).

No, none of the others are out of print. However, they have retained their value better than other used DVDs, I don't think any of them are less than $12 on Amazon Marketplace.

This is probably your best bet for that one, especially if you wait for the site's "buy one get one" sales.

Re: Listing of Regular Edition DVDs that are out of print (OOP) and valuable

I just found out that The Poseidon Adventure is out of print. I had the standard edition and thought I'd check if Amazon had the Special Edition on sale as part of its sale going on. Nope, they're both out of print. It's going for $30 for the standard edition and $45 for the special edition. The only thing that's still in print is that crappy TV movie with C. Thomas Howell. People should be aware that any set that's currently in print that offers Poseidon Adventure is referring to the TV movie, not the original.

Another oldie I have, The Hindenburg is going for $30 as well.

The price was for the box set itself. I didn't have time to list the individual discs.
