Not sure if this has been posted, but i am happy to see that my copy of the original Sleuth has increased so much. A brand new copy on Amazon will set you back a nice $100. Used will be just below $40. Cost me $8 brand new when i bought it from Borders a number of years ago. Great movie.

I've noticed my Anchor Bay release of "FM" is going for around $40.00 used, and up to $166 new, through Amazon dealers.

I'm hoping for a new release though. The existing one has a horrific transfer!

Amen to that. A better comparison would be the selling price on Ebay for the title. A number of films go through regular price "fluctuations" as lower priced copies show up and are bought, temporarily leaving a very high priced (and non-selling) copy as the lowest price available.

Plus, even true rare OOP titles can show up at far more reasonable prices at secondhand book/video/CD stores, pawn shops, video store bargain bins, garage sales, and the like.

Most copies of "FM" are rotted now- just checked my friend's copy and it wouldn't read on anything. At least I have the laserdisc, which hasn't rotted.

Just watched mine again about 3 weeks ago, still played fine.

I'd be really surprised to see anyone paying more than maybe $2 for that film.

You may think that, but a lot of these films actually sell for what they are listed by. I'm an Amazon seller and have sold DVDs over there for at least $20-$30 more than what the highest priced one at Ebay. People trust Amazon more than Ebay and are willing to pay more for a DVD there, knowing that if something goes wrong, getting their money back is easier and less of a hassle than Paypal.

Amazon has a sales rank that indicates what kind of sales each product has. A lot of these high oop items have a real low sales rank indicating they only sell once in a blue moon.

Obviously, they are going to have a low ranking sale due to the item not being widely available.

Yes but if you see sales ranks of 80,000 or 150,000 then you know the high priced items are really not selling. I usually cut the price to get a sale if I have one of these.

Sometimes I think all these OOP titles are just being bought and re-bought by resellers and no one else; so the same title gets passed around and no one really wanted it in the first place besides trying to reselling it.

The Odyssey (Armand Assante), New from $199.94/$233.89, Used from $49.89/$212.00, Collectible from $74.95/$157.02.

I'd been looking for this for quite awhile, could've bought it at Amazon for $12.99 back in the day but wanted it cheaper... Finally found it used at FYE back in June for $4.40, it's getting ridiculous what people are asking for this DVD. -kd5-

Most Ebay sellers are doing the same thing you did. They are not buying an item for an inflated price in the hopes of selling it for an even higher price. Instead, they go to secondary sources to pick things up, sometimes at bargain bin prices, which they can turn around for an often huge profit. The trick is being able to go through the dozens of public domain and other cheap crap titles that usually occupy those places and finding the one or two gems that are out there. And, of course, you run the risk that if a title like The Odyssey ever goes back in print, the market for that title will evaporate in a hurry.

Man, I have like 25 titles from that list. Scary thing is that like 10 are from Big Lots from the last 3-4 years.

I bought this because of a really awesome trailer (think the Exploader commercial from Vice City but IRL)
