I had the distinct pleasure to meet Colonel Dave last year at Cinema Wasteland. He signed my Long Swift Sword of Sigfried one sheet. 42nd Street Pete said he was wanting to come back to Cinema Wasteland soon. This fall is going to be Joel Reed of Bloodsucking Freaks fame (infame?). Can't wait. Makes me want this challenge to start now.

I'm all ready for this challenge and wouldn't have minded if it started this month. I got in the mood this morning and cleaned up my theater room, started up my projector and watched Angel, the schoolgirl by day, hooker by night.

All this glee and anticipation for something that feels years away.

Unless Mr Peepers wants to trade me March-April? Might be a nice antidote for after the Oscar Challenge.

March 7th, according to this press release, two weeks later than usual.
Personally, I like the idea of moving the animation challenge to August. A lot of the animated films I own also qualify for the Oscar challenge, and this way, I can watch them for both challenges, six months apart. If the challenges were only a month or two apart, I probably wouldn't bother. And by the same token, doing this challenge right after the Oscar one makes sense, since it sounds like there will be few films that qualify for both challenges. Just my 2¢.

I'll take April. I need it to take place during the school year.
Was there talk of a dedicated Western challenge? I always considered those B-Movies, with a few exceptions that are negotiable. Of course, this challenge is so broad that it won't hurt it if any particular genre is stripped off. If it doesn't get a challenge then Westerns are welcome in this challenge.

MST3K are allowed, but with a quarter point penalty. Anyone can watch Santa Claus Conquers the Martians with Joel and the Bots or Cinematic Titanic. If you can watch it solo, you deserve a full point.
Or we could perhaps take it the other direction. Watching an MST3K movie solo without the Bots gets a quarter point bonus? Official rules will be set prior to April.

This should be interesting for me. I think one of the problems will be that most of the movies I have that fall into this category are Horror movies, which I will probably reserve for October. At the very least, it would help me watch some of the other titles that I constantly find myself passing over.
Oh, and watching Manos, The Hands of Fate without MST3K should be worth 10X. I have somehow done it twice now, and I guarantee I will never watch it ever again.

I think it should just count regular. If you watch it solo, it's just replacing the fact that you don't have anyone else around to watch the normal version and do the same thing. Plus finding the normal version of some of the films isn't easy unless one is a real collector.
How many people are going to own The Sidehackers? I own two copies and that ain't right.

If you do it yourself with friends then you are interacting rather than passively absorbing it. Part of the challenge is the relative obscurity of the films. Anyone can turn on Showtime or HBO and watch The Dark Knight or something. It takes a bit of effort to seek out Billy Jack Goes to Washington.
Chances are we won't keep some of the penalty rules. If it helps participation to have people watch MST3K, then more power to it. I like the idea of a bonus for Non-MST3K versions of MST3K films, though. Just a meta-bonus kind of thing, since MST3K typifies the genre pretty well.

Why would you reward one viewer extra points for watching a perfectly fine film like Revenge of the Creature, or Kitten with a Whip, or The Crawling Eye, while some other poster only gets one point for sitting through something like Death Bed: The Bed That Eats or Fluctuations?

And that makes more sense than what I earlier thought.
I'm not sure there should be bonus points unless it's really special and rare. Something like watching stuff on vhs that isn't available on dvd because it's that bad should count as something extra.

for all those who enjoyed reading 'Cinema Sewer' the latest new edition is out now from FABPress - it's wonderfully graphic, hilarious to read and gives alot of recommendations of films that would definately fit the bill for this challenge.

So far, April 1 through April 30. Of course, April 30 is a Friday. As long as there is no conflict, I can't see why it couldn't continue through May 1 (my Birthday, actually). We should start hammering rules/guidelines out after the holidays.

Re: B-Movie/Exploitation/Drive-In Movie Challenge
I'm intrigued, but I would be concerned of overlap between this challenge and the Horror Movie Challenge. I think there should be something that says participants in both challenges can't recycle titles from either list or allow for a certain number of repeat titles.
On a more personal note, I take offense at the inclusion of Jean-Claude Van Damme in the OP. Van Damme was a bankable movie star back in the heyday of the R-Rated action film and starred in several major studio pictures. Sure, they were all of varying quality, but I wouldn't classify him as an "Exploitation" star. He's "above" that. Michael Dudikoff would be a much more appropriate fit.
Anyway, the one thing I would like to see in a B-movie challenge is a "Before They Were Famous"-type category or tally, where we keep track of how many future award-winners or celebrities make their debuts in these B-movies.

Good idea on individuals keeping track of future stars though.
