Re: Criterion Film Club
Also, there has been little notice on some weeks, not giving people much time to rent or buy the title, let alone watch it. I'd recommend having the schedule up at least a couple months in advance, or just getting everyone's picks out.

i was busy.
then i forgot.
then i remembered, but i started watching le chevalier deon, which rocks.
as trev mentioned, i think having a schedule accessible is prolly a good idea (even though i opposed it when it was first mentioned lol).
but take heart, this idea is good. people will come

I would guess that the last minute changes to the schedule affected that a bit, but I thought there would be a lot more participation for "Do the Right Thing" as I assume that is a pretty accessible title with a lot to potentially discuss. Hopefully things pick back up.

Yes, after my post which was made to point out that this weeks thread was MIA. But it looks like the whole thing is pretty much dead now anyways.
I'm as guilty as anyone of not participating lately, but that is only because the last couple of movies didn't interest me.

Re: Criterion Film Club
Yes, as for my (lack of) participation, it's only that I haven't seen the movies selected--I'm currently watching the non-Criterion release of "This Sporting Life" during cracks in my daily life of work, kids, sick kids, etc. (and have enjoyed it thus far)--and don't have ready access to them. I hope I can finish TSL before the week ends and have something to say about it.
Now, if picks begin including Kurosawa, Powell/Pressburger, Lang, Wes Anderson, and a few others, then it'll be easier for me to have something to say! My current rental queue is clogged with the immense "Human Condition" Criterion release, which I'm so very happy to finally have available.
But, cheers to all!

Re: Criterion Film Club
Is anyone still interested in this? The last 4 weeks have had no participation. I was gonna take the rest of Oct off because of the other challenges going on at the moment.

There are Challenges every month of the year, so ignore those and keep going. Well, ignore them except for working with them to what extent possible, putting horror selections in October for example.
Go ahead and get everyone's picks for at least four months in advance. This gives people time to plan their purchasing and viewing.
Bump this thread a few times a week if necessary, including links to the discussion threads that are current.
Put some effort into the initial posts here, and in the discussion threads. Include pics, imdb links, mentions of who picked the film, etc. In this thread, make part of the first post a fancy table/schedule with links to the discussions.
PM people to remind them that their picks are almost up, and that they are expected to verbosely comment on the films they choose.

Dammit - I was waiting for my number to be picked. At the very least, this thread should have been a sticky. So who declares this dead? Is there any way we can continue in some other sort of way? I still think it's a great idea.

Re: Criterion Film Club
Way too soon to call it dead imo. Things like this always take more work than people think.
Gglass did a great job taking the idea and running with it, but if we want to make it work someone has to be willing to put a bunch of work into it.
I'm a bit overworked here already, anyone else?
Also, perhaps one per week is a bit ambititious and two per month would be more realistic?

Would be nice if all of the folks after #76, including me, were on the master list, thanks.
