Quoting so you can't change your mind.

One thing that might be obvious, but perhaps should be put in writing, is that by making a choice, and asking 100+ people to watch this film that you are choosing, that you are also agreeing to make a reasonable effort to rent/buy/watch the films that everyone else is choosing. It has to be a two way street.

Re: Criterion Film Club

I'm given Maxflier the go ahead to take over the Club. I just don't have the time that needs to be put in to make this work. I'm really hoping this takes off though. Sorry for the last couple of weeks guys, but it should get back on track soon.

Re: Criterion Film Club

Ok, then I will start sending out PM's for selections and once they start coming in I guess will just start a new thread since I obviously can't edit the OP of this one.
I'm thinking we will start back up the week beginning 10/26 since this week would be such short notice.

Also need to know which members picked Brakhage: An Anthology and Jigoku.

Re: Criterion Film Club

Max, just a suggestion, but it looks like the format I have here may work well for your new thread. One column for the date, one for the movie, one for the DVDtalker, and one for the discussion thread link.

Just quote and then edit my post/table, editing as necessary of course.

Re: Criterion Film Club

Well I see what gglass was up against now. I am getting no responses to my PM's for selections. Only one person has bothered to respond with a pick.
I'm thinking maybe I should just open it up and let every one who wants to make a pick post it in here and make a schedule off of that.

Re: Criterion Film Club

I was kind of thinking something like that, let everyone post their pick in their original post (who hasn't picked one already) and maybe randomly pick one of those (or even just do them in order to keep it simple).

Re: Criterion Film Club

Well, it's only been a couple days and many people don't come here every day.

Yep, just keep it simple is what I always thought. Have people post their picks, and use the order that they post in, reminding people of their commitment to participate.

Keeping it here for now might get more participation, as people get their email notifications of thread bumps.

Re: Criterion Film Club

glad to see this is picking up traction again. If there's any ideas that we can help organize let us know. If you havent checked out the new Art house Column yet please go to the homepage and check it out.

You will notice on the right hand side there is a JOIN THE CRITERION FILM CLUB link - if you want me to change where this links to please let me know so that new members interested in joining up can find you.

Thanks!

Re: Criterion Film Club

As you saw from the sticky up top, we are going with the 2 titles per month format. We'll kick it off at the beginning of November, so I guess the easiest thing to do is 1st and 15th of each month. I will start a thread later with a full schedule view, but here is what we have to start out for November and December:

Nov. 1 - The Last Wave (gryffinmaster)
Nov. 15 - The Sword of Doom (JoeySeven)
Dec. 1 - Touchez pas au grisbi (Mike UFC)
Dec. 15 - The Devil and Daniel Webster (Washizu)

Keep the picks coming so we can forecast out pretty far and give people plenty of time to get ahold of the DVD's.

Re: Criterion Film Club

I was going to pick Metropolitan, but only if it would be during the Holiday Challenge. If I'm later than that, I'll wait to make another Challenge-specific time/selection.

Re: Criterion Film Club

What dates does the Holiday challenge run? If it is still going at the beginning of January then the Jan. 1 slot is open for you.

No, it runs from right before Thanksgiving to New Year's Eve. That's alright, I'll wait for the Western, Animation, or B-Movie Challenges.

I know a lot of people don't care about the Challenges, but they are pretty popular here, and a big part of what makes DVDTalk a community and not just another website. In fact, we started this club out of a discussion in the Challenge threads. So I always thought it would be nice, and very easy, to queue the selections to accommodate them all.

Re: Criterion Film Club

I'm going to buy Criterion's Monsoon Wedding to replace my old non-anamorphic Universal dvd.

Tough choice on getting Do the Right Thing from Criterion or the 2-disc Universal one.

Criterions the only way to go. The new release really messed up the color timing.

Criterion Film Club Schedule

Will keep the updated schedule list running there. I did look at your post for the chart Trevor, but holy hell I think decyphering heiroglyphics might be easier than figuring all that out. I will look into it some more when I have more time.

Appreciate the help Trevor, I don't know the first thing about making up charts and stuff like that.
I have updated the schedule post with your chart.

I'm still largely clueless with them, and got a lot of help from people here to learn the basics.

I knew nothing just a couple months ago, but now feel like I can edit existing templates fairly well and make small changes.

Once the DVDempire discount method becomes finalized, we'll want to add direct links to them as well I guess.

Hopefully people will keep putting their choices in, as the more notice the better as far as people ordering them and the DVDTalk/DVDEmpire partnership working well on this. A 40% discount is almost enough for me to order every selected title that I don't own already.
