Re: More WB 4 Film Favorites Collections on the way

Will probably spring for Carrey, Critters and TMNT.

Still most interested to know what'll be on Cult Thrillers and Fast Action. I hope they're good.

Maybe, I mean...it's a lightly comedic drama, and Yes Man is at least closer to the middle of Jim Carrey's wackiness scale than Dumb and Dumber.

I wonder if they were cancelled or postponed. They are not even listed on wbshop.com. They have pics of the covers and details for the ones slated for September 21 but these are not there.

My guesses for Fast Action:

Driven
Highwaymen
Torque
Grand Prix

It would follow the tradition of many of these sets having three piles of crap and one movie that is usually much, much better, if not wholly inappropriate to include alongside such awfulness.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again...

I'd love it if WB offered a DVD-R plan where you could program the films to be included in a set.

If those movies add up to 447 minutes, you may be right. Amazon lists the total at 447 minutes.

If they did, they would not be $9.99 like these. Probably more like $49.99.

Presumably the one you're singling out in this theoretical set is Torque, a movie that has changed the way I look at life. It's the best subtle mockery of racing action movies put out by an unsuspecting studio!

I really wish Highwaymen had been better, though. I think the first half of it is pretty damn good (for this kind of movie anyway -- quality car stunts) and then it just gets really really silly, and finally outright stupid right at the very end.

Hmm... The four movies I'm guessing add up to 456 mins according to IMDB.

Why did they alter the classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles logo? They ditched the red stripe above "Turtles" for plain white text.

What's even weirder is, it seems it was released in the US a year ago too, but it's disguised and overpriced so that people don't realize it's a "4 Film Favorites" release.

See the reviews for confirmation. Many (of the few) reviewers gave it low marks because they were expecting a full-fledged box set, and it turned out to be "4 Film Favorites"-style at a box set price. (Great marketing decisions! )

A normal box set was also released back in 2003, with the same 'Ultimate Vacation Collection' tagline: www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Vacation-Collection-European-Christmas/dp/B0000AVH9P/

Don't give them any ideas- if they did that, it'd most likely be the ONLY way to get the titles offered! Besides, they haven't been able to make recordable DVD-18 or 14's yet, and recordable dual-layer discs are hit-or-miss anyways (just burned 4 coasters before getting one that came out right.)

I'd get the Free Willy set or the Carrey set, wish it had Liar Liar or Cable Guy instead though.

Cable Guy is a Sony film and Liar, Liar is a Universal film.

They should have dumped The Majestic and just thrown in Ace Ventura.

Yeah, but I imagine Ace/Nature/cartoons disc from the 3-disc set/Jr. is probably on the way.

"The original movie" on that Turtles cover bugs me, as does the use of that particular shade of purple on all the kids' releases. Too bad, I like the art they've chosen for II but not I or III.

Similarly, it bugs me that if you look up Nightmare on Elm Street anywhere online, you'll see what was apparently "first draft" artwork for the two 4 Film Favorites sets, and I strongly prefer it to the existing art. They used the paintings instead of the photographs. Really wish it had been a "first run" thing at the very least, then I could hunt 'em down.

Tough to believe that the price of the 4 Film Favorites VACATION set—sneakily disguised as the "Ultimate Vacation Collection—continues to RISE in price. It's utterly offensive that they'd charge that much for a set that, when you open it, is NO different than the other 4 Film Favorites that retail from $10-$15, right down to the sleeve art and case. As mentioned in a couple of those reviews at Amazon, including my own, the set routinely retails here in Canada for $10 - $12, and doesn't come with the slipcover to obscure what it really is. I just don't get Warner's game plan with this one in the U.S. It's a great set that includes all the special features from previous Special Editions of these films (just like other films in the 4 Film collections), but gouging people nearly $38 for it is almost criminal. (I believe discussion of this set popped up earlier in the thread actually)

We could start a list here, but for now go to www.wbshop.com and search "4 Film Favorites".

Of course, they could always pull GRAND PRIX and throw in CANNONBALL RUN II for the sake of consistency.

I also think Fast Action does not necessarily have to be racing movies but could include movies like Shoot 'Em Up and Running Scared (2006.)

Re: More WB 4 Film Favorites Collections on the way

A Future Shop I visited today had revamped versions of many of the existing 4 Film Favorites collections on sale. They're now called "4 Film Features", and shard-style panels on the sleeve fronts have been replaced with four plain rectangles. Perhaps this is an only-in-Canada thing?

I see Amazon now has artwork up for the September sets (scroll down):

Re: More WB 4 Film Favorites Collections on the way

I'll probably replace my separate copies of the four TMNT movies with the 4 film favorites to tidy up some space. The movies are pretty cool but I rather go with this for the time being (since they are including the Widescreen versions). At least until they release blu-rays of the movies that aren't in a pizza box and costs $60 (plus the $10-$15 for the newer movie).
