You don't get all the special features that are on the Ultimate set, but you get enough.

I remember seeing a Death Wish 4 pack at Walmart a while ago. Anyone have or remember this set? I like to get it, but can't find it anywhere.
I saw this tonight at BB but it was priced at $12.99. I have searched around on line and can't find it anywhere else.

is anyone concerned with the 2 sided discs?

I realize that this makes for a great priced little deal, but just wondering...

2 sided discs it's easier to get fingerprints on.
2 sided discs it's sometimes hard to read the miniscule printing on the inner ring.

I read somewhere (earlier in this thread, perhaps?) that this set is a Best Buy exclusive right now. Once it's released wider, I'm sure the price will drop.

The sticker on this at Best Buy when i was there last Saturday was $12.99. They had an aisle display of 4 Film Favourites with a sign up top that said "selected sets" were $9.99. I figured the HARRY one wouldn't be because it was too new, but it did indeed ring up at $9.99, making me think all of the ones on that display were likely that price (the display didn't include every 4 Film Favourite, so presumably the ones that were there were the "selected" ones). Is the Best Buy sale cycle Sunday to Saturday by any chance? That might explain it being regular price again.

As I'm from Canada and only cross the border every three weeks, I went there with the intention of paying $12.99, which is still fair value for this particular set, considering how recently the single-disc versions of these came out.

2 sided discs. 4 special edition movies with supplements. 10 dollars. Wash your hands and squint.

More 4 film favourites on the way.

I was commenting to someone in the real world recently that it would be cool if Warner did 4 Film Favorites versions of the Dark Castle films, most of which have been out for ages and often turn up in bargain bins and discount sales. I don't love most of them, but I kinda like all of them, enough to pop $10 for a couple of 4 packs. Unfortunately, it looks like this is the closest we'll get for now:

4 FILM FAVORITES: THRILLER COLLECTION
Gothika / Ghost Ship / Queen of the Damned / Dreamcatcher ()

And there's more (pretty mixed bags for sure):

4 FILM FAVORITES: RICHARD PRYOR COLLECTION
The Mack / Greased Lightning / Uptown Saturday Night / Moving

4 FILM FAVORITES: WESLEY SNIPES
New Jack City / Boiling Point / Art of War / Murder at 1600

4 FILM FAVORITES: WEDDING COLLECTION
Wedding Singer / In-Laws / The Bachelor / Monster-In-Law

4 FILM FAVORITES: ROMANCE COLLECTION:
Music & Lyrics / Lucky You / Rumour Has It / Sweet November

4 FILM FAVORITES: KEVIN COSTNER
Tin Cup / Rumour Has it / Bodyguard / Upside of Anger

4 FILM FAVORITES: WHOOPI GOLDBERG
Bogus / Clara's Heart / Made In America / Corrina Corrina

4 FILM FAVORITES: WESTERN COLLECTION
Maverick / Wild Wild West / Young Guns II / American Outlaws

After the killer sets that came out last time (Vacation, Police Academy, Blade, Batman), I'm lukewarm on these sets.

Re: More WB 4 Film Favorites Collections on the way

those are the lamest titles WB could probably muster together. Those should really please the people these sets are designed for.

Actually, I think previous sets weren't entirely designed for the same people these ones are. At least previous sets tried to collect series together (ELM STREET, BLADE, OCEAN'S, LETHAL WEAPON), or embrace themes (Stephen King, Early 90's Action, etc.). These new ones are generally worse than the worst you could find in the earlier batches, and the flop ratio much higher than it was in most of the previous sets as well.

Most have one, maybe two decent pictures paired with nearly-forgotten duds that barely sold in the Wal-mart bargain bins (BOILING POINT?? Come on!). I'm most disappointed in that "Thriller" set with the two Dark Castle pictures. There must be enough movies from that company by now to fill two of these 4-packs.

Looks like the Urban Action set is the only one I'll be getting.

Quoting myself from a couple of pages, as a reminder of some of the older action pictures that are probably ready for inclusion in sets like these:

One 4-Film set that impressed me was the action set that included LAST BOY SCOUT, PASSENGER 57, POINT OF NO RETURN and ERASER, all semi-memorable action pictures from the early to mid 90's. No classics to be sure, but a very decent cross section (PASSENGER 57 is probably the weakest, but it's still a slick little number). I'd be interested in other action (or sci-fi) sets like this, perhaps comprised of similar mid-level Warner action titles (and possible guilty pleasures) from that era, like DEEP BLUE SEA, SOLDIER, INNOCENT BLOOD, RICOCHET, MEMPHIS BELLE, TANGO & CASH, EXECUTIVE DECISION, DRIVEN, SWORDFISH, WILD WILD WEST, FAIR GAME, IF LOOKS COULD KILL, THE ROOKIE, ACTION JACKSON, THE SPECIALIST, DEMOLITION MAN and probably a few others. Again, none of these are classics--many are probably hated--but they're all of a certain level of production quality that at least makes them worth revisiting on a rainy afternoon.

I realize MANY of these pictures are already available in double features and triple features, but they're often paired with pictures I'm less interested in (and the studio probably knows that ). At least with four in a pack, you might have a chance of improving the odds of getting three or even four decent pictures (subjectively speaking, of course), and the $10 price point becomes even more attractive.
Those action titles above were found by skimming Warners films from the early 90's at IMDB. I'm sure a similar list of horror, thriller, comedy and drama titles could be found that would produce far better sets than this dismal latest batch.

And with Warner now officially discontinuing potentially hundreds of discs from their 1929 - 1972 catalogue, most likely moving the titles to the burn-on-demand unit, the mind reels at the kinds of "Classic 4-Film Favorites" we might have seen.

Re: More WB 4 Film Favorites Collections on the way

I guess a few weeks ago they also put out a Dirty Harry collection (the first four) and a Martial Arts pack (Rumble in the Bronx, The Corruptor, Showdown in Little Tokyo, and Bloodsport). Both can be viewed on DVDEmpire (which can't be properly linked).

Amazon also indicates the following are coming in this wave: Cult Thrillers, Family Fun, Family Movie Night, and Fast Action.

Iron Giant deserves better than to be packaged with those movies. I might pick up the Survival collection. I love those 4 movies

The Dirty Harry collection came out back in February, but was a Best Buy exclusive for some time before that. I seem to recall picking it up in late 2009, but I could be wrong about that.

Kinda surprised they didn't do a Jackie Chan 4-film favourites with his other New Line titles like First Strike, Thunderbolt and Mr. Nice Guy. Alliance released a 4-pack of these up here last year, although the audio options were severely limited, Thunderbolt dropped the Cantonese track, and none had subs or extras of any kind (even trailers).

The "Family Fun" set appears to be coming out this week, as someone else noted. The rest are in June. Can't find titles on any of these, but the Cult Thrillers and Fast Action sets sound intriguing, as long as the latter isn't another excuse to recycle junk like Cannonball Run II.

Re: More WB 4 Film Favorites Collections on the way

Saw another 4 Film Favorite collection in an HMV store here tonight that I don't recall popping up in this thread:

4 Film Favourites: Love Stories Collection
THE LAKE HOUSE
SOMMERSBY
MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE
FOREVER YOUNG

The copyright on the back says 2010, so I assume this is a fairly recent release, or perhaps HMV is breaking street date, but I can't find this at Deep Discount, Amazon.com or even WBShop, which seems strange. I suppose it's probably there somewhere under an ambiguous title and I'm just not seeing it. Here's the Canadian listing for now:

If you are ashamed, the 4 Film Favorites set would make them much less prominent on your shelf.

Just picked that set up today at Best Buy for $12.99.

Almost bought Hot Potato and Black Samson separately over the weekend, so I'm glad I randomly ran into the set.

Came across a bunch coming out on September 21 today at Amazon:
Suspense Collection (Seven, Heat, Insomnia, The Devil's Advocate)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Jim Carrey (Dumb and Dumber, The Mask, Yes Man, The Majestic)
Steve McQueen (Bullitt, Papillon, The Cincinnati Kid, The Getaway)
Free Willy
Sandra Bullock Comedy (Miss Congeniality, Miss Congeniality 2, Two Weeks Notice, Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood)
Oliver Stone (Alexander DC, Any Given Sunday, Heaven and Earth, Natural Born Killers)
Final Destination
Critters

The one I'm most interested in is Critters.

Damn, I just realized that Free Willy 4 just came out in March. Is that a record for a film to appear on a 4 Film Favorites, only 6 months?

The Ninja Turtles is hilarious, considering Warner tried to gouge fans with a box set of all 4 films a while back. I'll probably pick that one up.
