with 1000+ dvd's I still haven't done this, but when I'm in a store and see a cheap dvd I have to think if I own it, and it's getting a lot harder to remember.
This happened to me last year. I bought an Unused Box set at a Garage Sale, and when I got home I discovered that this series was included in another Box Set I bought earlier. I gave the set to a Relative as a Christmas Presant.

Done it a couple of times already. My collection is 2000+ but was certain I didn't have this title...and came home to see it there already on the shelf. It's what motivated me to get a smartphone - now I can access my DVD Profiler list online so I can't fool myself anymore.

As of today I have 3160 titles. And i can for the most part remember every title I own. I guess in itself that's a pretty obsessed thing to be able to do. Anywho, the only time this becomes a problem is with tiles like the Scooby-Doo movies. I own almost all of them and I keep forgetting what ones I have and one ones I need. But to solve this problem I have a database program on my Ipod so I'm always sure to bring it with me wherever I go since most of my DVDs are bought used and I cannot return them I need to be 100% sure its a title I need.

I think I have a problem when I get a box in the mail and my three-year-old daughter says 'You got movies!' before I even open the box

I'm closing in on 3000 (2978) and once or twice I've bought something that I already had. It is amazing that I remember those things when I'm in the store.

I was so obsessed with dvds when they first came out. My first player was a panasonic and cost me 450$. The first dvds I ever bought were back in 1999 and they were the original Dawn of the Dead flipper dvd and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I paid brand new about 30-35$ a piece. Unfortunately, they turned into an obsession and I HAD to have the ultimate collection at any cost. My name is Jim and I am a recovering DVD addict.

Failing at that according to your other posts. I imagine just an attempt at humor....

Want a practical joke to play on a DVD obsessive? Choose a few random amarays and turn the outside artwork upside down (if there's an insert, turn that upside down too), then replace it on the shelf so the artwork it right side up. When they open the case, the DVD will be on the WRONG SIDE! It's amusing as the obsessive looks surprised when opening the case. Not so amusing when you learn that he later went through every single amaray to make sure they're all "correct".

- Collect horrible sequels/prequels to movies you like just to have the complete series?
- Buy multiple cuts of the same movie? (EX: Theatrical, Director's Cut, Extended).
Or lets us know other crazy things you do...
I do both of those. I own Halloween 3 and 6 and those are awful installments. I also own the 1998 30th Anniversary of Night of the Living Dead which has 15 minutes of added footage shot in 1998 added into the movie.

I will buy different DVDs if they have different special features. I own 4 versions of Night of the Living Dead (the above mentioned version, the version that came with the Mike Nelson commentary, the Millennium Edition which has a ton of special features and the "40th anniversary" version that comes with the full length documentary)

I also import from other regions if they have something America doesn't. I've bought the Ginger Snaps Trilogy from Canada to have the first movie in widescreen w/special features. I have ordered the Phantasm Box Set from R2 to have part 2 and all the special features.
