How many of you are so DVD obsessed that you…

How many of you are so DVD obsessed that you…
- Collect horrible sequels/prequels to movies you like just to have the complete series?
- Buy multiple cuts of the same movie? (EX: Theatrical, Director's Cut, Extended).
Or lets us know other crazy things you do...

Re: How many of you are so DVD obsessed that you…

I've been doing this. I cant tell you how many horrible sequels/prequels I now own, and how many titles I now have up to 3 versions of.
But what can I say... I'm a completest. No matter how bad the sequel/prequel might be I want the whole story. And I enjoy being able to choose between the version I saw in the theater, the extended cut with 30 mins of added scenes, or the true film that the director envisioned.
So am I obsessed? Sure! But I love it!

i try to only own the movies in a series that i like. there are only a few instances were i own some shit sequels in the mix.

alien quadrillogy (got it super cheap) i hate part 4 however.

james bond volumes 1-4 (out of every boxset i liked between3-4) buying them seperatly to avoid a few titles is pointless

I'd rather buy four separate DVDs than one '4 Film Favorites' because it would mess up my organization

LOL! I agree. Though due to the usual super cheep prices on multi-title sets I end up buying them anyway.

Use an entire bedroom just to store all your movies.

1/4 of my collection (approx 450) consists of DVDs that are still sealed.

Not so much these last few years. At one point I was buying about 20 DVDs a month. That number has shrunk to maybe two. I really give my purchases a lot of thought these days. I have about 800 movies - most of which I don't care to watch again because I used to be the way the OP describes.

Even if I know I'm not going to watch them for a while yet I still have to open them immediately. I keep a box cutter in my DVD room to do so. I cannot stand seeing those damn "security device enclosed" stickers.
However keeping them shrink wrapped isn't the worst idea if you keep your receipts too. I can't tell you how may time I bought a title and then a month later I find it in a double feature set or part of a buy 2 get one free deal or something (thus preventing me from buying the double feature or getting the deal) and I never even watched the DVD yet. If I would have kept it sealed I could have returned it. Ohh well...

...

I've done that a lot over the years.. but I must say that I have slowed down a bit and have been more selective. One thing that I have in my favor ( I Think ) is that when I buy a SE or extended cut of a movie that I already have, I do get rid of the original DVD, that way I never have two different DVD's of the same movie. Now these days when the studios are promoting Bluray and Digital Copies, I have been more selective on just getting the one disc set instead of the 2 disc sets with Digital copies that I don't want or need anyway. All I really care about now is just getting the full, uncut movie on DVD, I don't care too much about the gimicks, Special Features that go along with these DVD's anymore. But there are exceptions.. One example was Valkyrie, where I wanted the 2-disc for the historical documentary that came with the movie.

I wish I had enough self control to only buy 20 a month.

Same here. For some reason I just can't bring myself to buy those multi-movie collections. I think I only have one right now which is the PI/Requiem for a Dream set. I justify having that because they are both directed by Aronofsky. And it's filed under "A."

Depends on the movie.

Depends on the movie. LOTR and Lilo & Stitch immediately come to mind.

- I put single-width Amaray cases in resealable plastics once I've opened a movie for viewing.
- I usually prefer individual releases over those space-saving double-sided no artwork discs
- I prefer single width Amaray cases, I don't understand why they had to come up with Alphapaks.
- More than 50% of my collection are still sealed. I think I have over 300.
- I collect only R1 DVDs. I come from the Philippines where sucky quality R3 versions roam around.

Re: How many of you are so DVD obsessed that you…

Is this a serious thread? Because I'm willing to bet almost all of us here have DVD "issues". This is DVD Talk after all. ;)

I myself don't buy all the films in a series if I dislike them. I don't keep things I don't like enough to own. Though, occasionally, I keep movies I think are great but have low-replay value for me just because of how powerful my reaction to the film in question was. But that's okay IMHO.

I am trying to MAJORLY cut back on my spending/buying habits. I just joined Netflix, finally, and while I'm still buying stuff this move seems to have helped me a lot.

28 Weeks Later - Loved the 1st one so much I thought buying this was a no-brainer. It only cost $5 and I hadn't seen it yet, so I chalk that up as a rental in my mind.

Terminator 3 - Had the other 2 and Sarah Connor S.1, so this was more of the completest in me. I may buy the new one when it is under $5. I saw the movie for free at the theater, so I can justify the few dollars spent on the dvd.

There's also certain director's who I try to get every single one of their films.

Overall, I'd say that 95% of the dvds in my collection are films that I love.

Wow! If I did that my collection would be so small since I never pay more than $5.00 for a title.

Wow, I thought I was to only one who did this. I actually picked up an OOP copy of Leap of Faith recently and paid a lot more than the double faeature disc it is currently available in.

I actually used to buy sequels depsite their level of suck, but with the wallet tightening the past year or so, I have really broken that habit. If I know an extended edition is coming out I will try to wait for that, but I do have multiple editions of Punisher, Empire Records, Army of Darkness and LOTR.

I also have the one bedroom ... um err .... TV room, dedicated to my DVD/Blu library and I still don't have enough room to put display the entire 700+ collection (which also incl a ton of the big TV/DVD packaging).

Go at midnight for Revenge of the Sith and LOTR: ROTK EE.

Quadruple dip on the Original SW trilogy

Oh yeah and buy 3 copies of Sukiyaki Western Django in steelbook, because of the different covers.
