for those in the DC area - the AFI Silver is showing "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" on the big screen this Saturday and next Tuesday (I'll be at the latter).

Sweet. I've never been there, been meaning to for awhile. Might go Tuesday as well.

In the month before this started, there was only one complaint, about a couple weeks after the thread started, which I answered. After that, the subject was never brought up again. It may not have seemed like it but I was open to discussion on it.

Since it was a sci-fi challenge, I didn't want to specifically include fantasy, in name. Since sci-fi and fantasy are closely linked, I thought fantasy fans would be happy since all they had to do was find a sci-fi aspect in it to be allowed. Then it could still be a sci-fi challenge but fantasy people could still watch most of their stuff.

Really? I think we've had lots of good discussion and changes/improvements in the other Challenges.

This is only year two of Sci-fi, and there wasn't really much of a call for change. And even this one has had changes/additions since it started (adding the checklist and the weekly watch list for example).

Do I have to include the days on the List Thread? I've already watched a lot of stuff and can't remember what days I watched what on.

You can just make them up, no one will come by your house and check.

Not true. You're supposed to be checking on the person immediately previous to you in the list thread. I have a webcam in Giles' TV room for example.

That's a great idea. I would so participate in that.

In case you haven't guessed yet, no. At least number them or have a total count.

Can we use wild cards? I'd like to watch The Right Stuff and For All Mankind, not to mention the 50's sci-fi doc included with Forbidden Planet.

Re: Summer Sci-Fi Challenge 09 - Discussion Thread

okay official dvdtalk challenge expert here laying down some laws!

sci-fi themed porn is okay, just as long as you list according to the rules specified in the op. fast-forwarding is strickly forbidden though. and dont worry bout the females in here - they can count fantasy-porn in the upcoming fantasy challenge tba by rob and dimension soon.

the matrix is always a good movie to watch. so watch it now. the sequels though are optional.

finally, i bravely await and am looking forward to the coming of gabbo.

This is something I really don't mind adding since wild cards are always fun and I should've done it before.

3 wild cards for all.

Use for those shows you want to watch but know they really don't count. The ones where it's really close to counting. Wild cards also count for all fantasy shows/movies.

Anyone ever watch Earth2? I got the set for $5 or something, have never seen an episode, and am contemplating it if I finish BSG before the month ends.

How do you like these? I love the books, but have never gotten around to watching these.

How are these holding up for you? I loved it as a kid, but have a feeling it will be one of those shows that I wouldn't like as an adult.

I was afraid of that (1 star). Loved the original, and the completest in me is compelled to buy the "sequel", even knowing how awful it is.

If I finish TNG Season 7 before the end of the month I plan on alternating this with Deep Space 9. I've never seen it before so I'm looking forward to it.

Do you have to alternate some DS9 in with those final TNG seasons to be 100% chronological?

I'm staying as chronological as possible, although I'm breaking that rule for multi-part episodes. So yes, I'll be alternating Season 2 of DS9 with Season 7 of TNG.

The fun part of these challenges is you end up watching films you'd never otherwise see. I doubt if there are other circumstances under which I would view one Critters film, let alone all four.

It doesn't hold up very well but it is still fun to watch these episodes and see all the famous guest stars that pop up. I had been meaning to watch this set sooner and this challenge gave me reason to finally.
