Re: Summer Sci-Fi Challenge 09 - Discussion Thread
But once my OCD kicks in, I have to stick to the plan. 31 unwatched DVDs plus all the BSG incarnations are my focus at the moment, broken up with a few tidbits here and there. Firefly/Serenity will be a 2 day marathon with my undivided attention at some point, looking forward to it.

Anyone else watching any of TCM's moon marathon? I just watched a couple that I had never heard of before: "They Came From Beyond Space" and "Moon Pilot". Talk about opposite ends of the "moon sci-fi" spectrum.

That pretty much answers my question (which I hadn't gotten around to asking yet) about whether I can count the Felicity episode "Help for the Lovelorn", the show's homage to The Twilight Zone. The set it's on is currently on its way from DVDPlanet; hopefully, I'll get it in time to watch it for the challenge.

Is the BBC show "Primeval" any good? Something else I've never seen, and BBCAmerica seems to be loading up a ton of episodes this week (including a bunch on demand).

Trevor, if/when you ever end up watching Earth 2, be sure to watch the episodes in the order given on Wikipedia, not as they appear on the actual discs. They're pretty much the same except the last 2 episodes on the set are out of order. The show is serialized enough that they really need to be watched in the order intended.

I've never gotten around to getting into Torchwood, but I plan on watching this. I've heard it's not a bad place to jump into the series. And from watching Doctor Who, I at least know something about what the Torchwood operation is about (and know about Jack Harkness). Haven't listed the series yet, because I'm going to watch all 5 episodes in a row later in the weekend.

I actually sort of quit a few days ago. A slight desire to "win" was starting to creep into my mind, but I need to get to my "should have done yesterday" mountain of paperwork. So an episode or two/day of BSG is all I'm likely to do for the next week.
I'll continue to enjoy perusing your lists and posting way too much of course.

I finally finished the Stargate SG-1 set! It only took three years but better late than never. I should hit 100 tonight too. Now let's see how many DS9 episodes I can get through before it's all over.

I've seen like 2 episodes and really enjoyed them. Have considered buying the complete set each time I see a sale, but have held off so far.

I've been chasing you on DS9 all challenge long, but if you're able to focus on DS9 the rest of the way then it'll be a lost cause.

I enjoyed the show or else I wouldn't have devoted so much freaking time to the commentaries (I'm never going to complain about a lack of features on a DVD set again). Personally, I don't think the last two seasons are as good as some of the previous ones but I understand why (I don't want to spoil it). It's a nice chunk of change so if you can Netflix it or watch it online first I'd go that route.

I'm happy to say I just hit my goal of 62 with a few days to spare. Unfortunately it was hit with Invasion of the Star Creatures. Easily the worst movie I've watched for this challenge, including two viewings of Plan 9, and possibly one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

I am coming close to the end of my Sci-Fi pile and I am happy with my totals. I just hope I can do the same for the Horror challenge later!

For me, SG-1 lost it's way in season 5. It's still fun to watch because there are some good episodes and you keep hoping that the writers will bring the story to a satisfying conclusion, but that never happens.
The final 2 seasons are definitely the worst. They needed to end it, not add more stuff to keep it going. The only good thing was that they were able to prevent Moebius from being the series finale.
If they had stopped at the end of season 5 and then made the movies, then I would probably be a big fan.

Would anyone object to having the challenge end at a random time next Saturday, similar to the horror challenge. If not, we can keep it at midnight.

I'd be cool with it extending into Saturday. Maybe until 6AM? Cutting it off right at midnight doesn't make much sense, that's still early in the night for some people.
