where did you see this?

do you think Target would give money back on opened DVD's because of this?

Amazon has their product feedback forums where people post threads, one guy said in a thread that he got one with all the features.

As for Target accepting the return, I doubt it.

Ok...just called them at 8am. Here's the news I got. They asked for the lettering on the DVD for "A Danny Boyle Film"(it was white) and they also asked me for what was the last sentence for that paragraph description of the film. I told them what they wanted and gave them my info. He said I was on the list but that he didn't know when I'd get the replacement DVD. The guy also told me that if I wanted to see the bonus features I could do so online..he gave me this link: http://www.slumdogmillionairedvd.com/bonusfeatures which actually does have the bonus features online...well at least Fox was kinda fast on that response...still sad as they still don't know when I can get my replacement DVD.

From Amazon:
Thank you for contacting Amazon.com. I have searched the website for the item "Slumdog Millionaire (2008)" and found the issue you have mentioned is for the orders that has already been placed and not for the recently re-stocked items. Hence, I would request you to visit our website to place a new order for the item "Slumdog Millionaire (2008)". Rest assured, you will not receive any defective disc. I hope I have addressed your query to your satisfaction. If you have any further questions, please write back to us and we will be more than happy to assist you. Thank you for shopping at Amazon.com.

Well 8am in Texas...I dunno..they answered though.

Manicsounds...so Amazon isn't going to replace it? Well call Fox...they're (from what I can trust) going to replace mine...just don't know when.

EDIT:
NEW INFO FROM AMAZON, got this in an email from them.

Hello from Amazon.com.

We're writing because Fox notified us that some DVD versions of 'Slumdog Millionaire' don't include all of the special features advertised on the packaging. If you ordered a DVD that did not include the special features, Fox is happy to send you a replacement disc.

Please call Fox at 1-888-223-4FOX. You may also visit www.foxhome.com or www.slumdogmillionairedvd.com for additional information. If you call the hotline, Fox will also give you access to special features online while you wait for your replacement DVD.

All DVDs shipped are fully functional and contain the Slumdog Millionaire movie as released in theatres, so you can enjoy watching the movie as soon as your disc arrives.

We're sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Thanks for shopping at Amazon.com.

Re: "Slumdog Millionaire" Replacement Program Info.

no Special Features @ Walmart

well, i had to take off today bc sick and went to Target to try and return the DVD for money back. it worked. CSR just had to ask her manager and i showed them the Amazon.com blurb about the DVD and they took it and gave me my money back.

then, went to Walmart (it was the same price, $15.99, different UPC). it was the same, no Special Features. was gonna cancel replacement if this was ok.

so, no harm no foul. now just wait for replacement.

Re: "Slumdog Millionaire" Replacement Program Info.

I called in the middle of the night and the person was pretty cool. I think they're operating 24/7 right now. LOLz. They asked me a couple of questions (easy if you have the DVD) and took my information. All in all, a good customer service experience.

and this is what happens when Fox decides to have different versions with different content - ack! what a douche decision from Fox - what a clusterfuck, well at least it's not dumbed down subtitles.

Near what major city do you live? Maybe it popped up in certain areas.

yeah, that seems weird for some to get the right one and not others. what UPC # was yours and what .....?

i will say that the Walmart disc was different in one way...when i went to the 'Special Features' section it came up with the trailers. on the Target disc when you hit it, the disc shuts off and goes back to DVD Player screen.

I'm in San Jose, Ca. I picked it up at the Wal-Mart in Union City (20 miles north of SJ).

The Danny Boyle writing on the disc is white.

The UPC code is 0 2454357441 5 80.

Hope that helps.

Re: "Slumdog Millionaire" Replacement Program Info.

Fox could already be manufacturing correct DVDs. Amazon claim they will have corrected ones in at April 3rd. One distributor I talked to claimed the same.

Hmm...I didn't check the commentaries. I just briefly surveyed the 'making of', and deleted scenes, which were all there. I just assumed the commentary tracks would also be there.

I'll check tonight and report back.

EDIT: affirmative on the audio commentaries.

Re: "Slumdog Millionaire" Replacement Program Info.

I just called in. Spoke with Charlotte and went through the steps. I also had to read one of the review quotes from the back. Was really easy and she was very friendly. Said it will take 2-3 days for my replacement to arrive, but I also live very close to LA.

Anyway, thanks Scott for posting the number and the rest of you for the info.

Out of curiosity for those rolling the dice and buying this in the wild, has anyone had luck getting a full-featured version from Target with the shooting script?

None that I know of.

What's the big deal with just buying it and getting the replacement? You can still watch the feature in the meantime. Why is everyone trying to get the right one in the stores? It's pretty much a crapshoot. I'm not griping but just wondering. Sorry if it sounds that way.

Re: "Slumdog Millionaire" Replacement Program Info.

Fox's decision to release "rental" versions of popular movies with mislabeled boxes was horribly wrongheaded at best and probably fraudulent. I expect there to be a number of complaints filed with the FTC and some lawsuits to come out of this. The debacle they are going through is going to damage sales of what should have been one of their top titles, the Best Picture of the year.

When sales are down, you don't screw around with your customers and risk alienating them further. I feel sorry for everyone who got burned by this, but I am very happy that Fox's stupidity is coming back to bite them big time.

thanks for the info. JC. i just wonder what actually differentiates your copy from the rest in terms of cosmetics. since they are asking ....., what does your say? could you take cover scans? just really want to know what could be different if same UPC.

i really wish this snafu would make it into mainstream media. like on the TV news or newsprint. anyone see any mainstream articles on this debacle? i'm not sure a mass amount of consumers would make FOX realize how stupid they are, but a national story would at least light some kind of fire...

Re: "Slumdog Millionaire" Replacement Program Info.

i work for target...this memo was sent out yesterday:

Issue with Slumdog Millionaire

(impacts only RDCs)

Issue: New release item 58/12/2048, Slumdog Millionaire, was shipped to the RDCs missing some of the special DVD bonus features. This item is considered defective, and we want to hold all product at the RDCs. Labels should have dropped for your building as RR this morning.

Action: Please work with your building to cancel any labels for this item that haven’t been processed, and reinstate the item into location. Please put the locations on hold at this time to prevent future label drops. The department will be issuing a MIR in the future to return this product to the vendor. **We are partnering with Dist Ops to ensure the impact on your Quality Indicator is adjusted for this issue.

Resolution: The stores have been notified that they may be receiving defective product on their trailers. They’ve been given a phone number to contact for replacement product, and the department is setting up direct to store orders to get good product in stock.
