Halloween Collection
 

Ok I'm sure this question has been asked before but I am going to finsh off my Halloween Collection soon and I was going to ask a few questions before I go out and buy them. Right now I have: Halloween: Digitally Remastered THX, Halloween (Remake) Rated and Unrated, and Halloween Resurrection.

Which (if multiple versions availabe) version of each should I buy?

Is the Halloween 25 Years of Terror DVD Worth It?

Should I get three because I've seen it and it sucked so bad so is my collection incomplete without it or is it better off?

Should I buy the 3-Disc Version of Rob Zombie's Halloween?

For starters, make sure the Halloween '78 edition you have is the Dean Cundey-approved version and not AB's hackjob done without authorization from Cundey or Carpenter. I don't believe the one you have is the correct version, if you care that much. The correct one os either the old 2-disc LE, the TV version, the old single disc version and (possibly) the new O-ring slipcover version.

As for the rest:

Halloween II (Universal)
Halloween III (Yes, own it and watch it again to realize it rocks. Again, buy the Universal edition)
Halloween IV (Divimax from AB)
Halloween V (Divimax from AB)
Halloween 6 (I say wait on it because a new edition with both cuts could be coming soon)
Halloween H20 (Only edition in R1 is non-anamorphic. Import if you want 16x9.)
Halloween 8 (Only one edition to get from Mirimax)
Halloween '07 (Only get the 3-disc set if you care about the 4 1/2 hour long doc. If you don't then don't bother)

And, yes, get Halloween: 25 Years of Terror. I'm not saying that because my friend put it together, it's actually a really good disc for fans of the series. It's a great supplement for the films that are featureless.

25 Years of Terror is a must if you are a Halloween fan....
I liked 3 but it can be skipped if you didn't enjoy it....

Ok so how do I find out if my version of Halloween '78 is the correct Dean Cundey Approved Version and not the AB version or whatever. What is the difference is it in the movie or what? Can It be determined by the cover or not?

I'll echo the previous thoughts on the 25 Years of Terror DVD--it's great! I assume you've seen all the Halloween films but are just now adding them to your personal collection. If you haven't seen them all, I'd do that before viewing the 25 Years of Terror.

You need to pick these up Halloween II,Halloween IV, & Halloween H20 ASAP....
I'm surprised you own Resurrection before all of these.... lol

Except you get, in essence, the "Limited Edition" that was out of print i.e. Cundey/Carpenter's approved version and the extended TV cut, the first movie in Blu (which is sort of like a compromise between Cundey/Carpenter's version and the AB remaster), the best editions of 4 and 5, and 25 Years of Terror (although you lose the second disc, which is a huge strike).

My Unrated two-disc of the remake is technically unnecessary because the BD has all of those features, but it's a cool conglomeration of store-exclusives: it has the BB lenticular slipcover, the CC bonus disc, and the Hot Topic Rob Zombie autographed cover insert. If there weren't a few features missing from the Blu-Ray, I'd have sold my 25th Anniversary 2-Disc as well.

Personally I like part three quite a bit.
Also if you can get your hands on it try to find the Producers cut of part six. It was never officially released and the quality of the added scenes is pretty crappy but as a huge Halloween fan I had to get it.

All signs are pointing to it getting an official release, so I would hold off on getting that for awhile.

As you can see in Xage's picture, you can pick up the Halloween II and III as a double pack. I bought it for $9.99 which is a good price for 2 movies.

Personaly.... I bought the two disc version when it came out but I'll probably sell it and buy the three disc to take its place.

Also, I would think that buying Halloween 2 even if you don't like it... sounds like a waste of money. I never buy a movie I don't care for. I only have Halloween 25th anniversery, the new two-disc RZ Halloween, and Halloween 4 and 5. Not internested in the others in the series.

Since AB just lost (or will lose) rights to Halloween 1, 4 and 5, I'd wait to pick those up...I can't remember what studio got the rights to them, but they are likely to release yet another version of the film on DVD (and hopefully Blu).

Really? I hadn't heard that.

Perhaps the new studio will release the multi-disc "Ultimate Edition" that the first movie deserves...

It no worse than the transformers cases from Target.

I only paid $50 for mine and I think that's an ok price.

I'm shocked to hear that a fan of the series enjoyed H20. I had high hopes for it since they had Jamie Lee Curtis back, but it just wasn't very good. But then, there hasn't been a good Halloween movie since Halloween 4 (including that mess of a remake).
Me too. I loved Halloween 3 even if it didn't have anything to do with Michael Myers.

Buy Halloween 25 Years Later. It's a must if you're a fan of the film/s. Also I cannot tell you how spectacular the Blu-Ray of the original looks!

Me too. I saw it in theater three times.
