Add me to the pile of fans that thought it was good, with two reservations. First off, it would obviously have been so much more complete if Donald Pleasance had lived to be in it -- his presence is the one thing that's sorely lacking from H20. Secondly, it really should have been the end. I didn't hate Halloween: Resurrection as much as everyone else -- it seemed pretty run-of-the-mill slasher fare to me (not that that means it was good, but it didn't seem worse than numerous Freddy and Jason flicks) -- but I did hate that they couldn't let H20 be conclusive. It provided good closure, and Resurrection's prologue is total bullshit.

Really? Sweet. It's been a little while since I last watched my copy, but I could have sworn it was non-anamorphic. Early BV discs tended to suck. Hell, it even lists a commentary that's not there.

Then he's good to go. I thought the THX-certified edition was included on the 25th anniversary set, but I just remembered that was Divimax.

Count me down as another fan of H20. Aside from the Scream-esque cast it's got a good score, great atmosphere and an engaging storyline. It's the best sequel aside from Halloween 2, not that that says much or anything...

Resurrection was a terrible movie in its own right, but its mere existence after the incredible finale of H20, and the blatant greed in destroying what could have been the best ending to a horror movie franchise in history, makes it even more of a miserable failure.

I loved H20....it's the best sequel in the series (just slightly better than 4, which I also really liked).

Completely agreed. I wish the remake had come after H20, then at least the original canon would have had a perfect ending by coming full circle with the Laurie Strode storyline. Resurrection was horrendous on numerous levels, not the least of which was Laurie's pathetic death in the beginning.

I have to say as well that as a fan of the Original and a fan of the whole series that I enjoyed H20. Maybe it's because I'm really still young (I'm 19) or what but I really enjoyed H20. It was pretty much a more 90's version of the original. Now I did seriously hate Resurrection and it completely ruined H20 from its little prologue ending.

What we need is a nice two disc for Halloween 2 just like the Halloween Limited Edition with the lenticular cover.

I want the different/longer television version on the second disc along with some nice extras.

They've done so many different releases for Halloween 1 that I can't believe they've done nothing for Halloween 2.

We even got an awful cardboard snapper for the case.

It's just awful. Don't they know a limited edition for the sequel would sell like hotcakes?

Well, keep in mind that Halloween has been released by Anchor Bay/Starz, where as Halloween II is currently owned by Universal, whom apparently doesn't want to do much with catalog horror titles anymore (see Phantasm 2).

If it were Anchor Bay, you could bet that Halloween II would have about 12 different versions by now.

Ah, that explains it. I didn't know that Anchor Bay didn't have the rights.

Universal is really being foolish. They're sitting on what could be a nice release.

I do not have the Rob Zombie remake. I saw it in the theatre and enjoyed it, but not enough to buy it, I'd prefer to stick with the classic.

When I was doing research after the October Horror movie challenge, the Box set that came out last year (with the mask) definitely contained everything to get a good start without having to do any additional double-dipping, and I think I got it for like $25 in the DDD 25% off sale. The rest of the titles were a little tricky to figure out which ones to get, in fact I haven't ordered everything yet. I will probably study this thread when I get home to get some answers for myself on the ones I haven't got yet.

If your Halloween II comes in a snapper, then you have the GoodTimes release. A bit after that, Universal re-released it in a regular DVD case with the theatrical trailer as the extra. According to rumors I heard (I believe here on DVDTalk) they were planning a Collector's Series release of II but canned it at the last minute. Perhaps with Zombie's Halloween getting a II of its own, Universal will finally indulge in a special edition, even if all we get is something akin to the Waterworld SE -- disc 1 theatrical, disc 2 extended, no bonuses.

Oh, and to address the OP, if you are still on the fence about Halloween III, get the Halloween II/III 2-pack and you won't have to make the decision. I would buy III anyway though. Even though it has nothing to do with Michael Myers or the rest of the series, it's still a pretty decent horror movie.

Sometimes studios have been known to quietly re-release anamorphic versions of discs that were previously non-anamorphic (Never Been Kissed by FOX is an example of this).

I know for certain that my edition of Halloween: H20 is non-anamorphic... but I wouldn't be surprised if Dimension Films re-issued an anamorphic edition and didn't change the UPC or anything.

I still want to get the extended tv version of Halloween, and the "producers cut" of H6. Also I used to own a previous single disc anchor bay versions that I traded in when I got the 2 discer not realizing it has a documentary on it that isn't on the version I now have. I'm sure that is probably the case. I posted in the anamorphic thread with the UPC of the anamorphic H20 so you can look there to see if it is the same as the UPC on your copy.
