Halloween Collection
Ok I'm sure this question has been asked before but I am going to finsh off my Halloween Collection soon and I was going to ask a few questions before I go out and buy them. Right now I have: Halloween: Digitally Remastered THX, Halloween (Remake) Rated and Unrated, and Halloween Resurrection.
Which (if multiple versions availabe) version of each should I buy? Is the Halloween 25 Years of Terror DVD Worth It? Should I get three because I've seen it and it sucked so bad so is my collection incomplete without it or is it better off? Should I buy the 3-Disc Version of Rob Zombie's Halloween? |
Re: Halloween Collection
For starters, make sure the Halloween '78 edition you have is the Dean Cundey-approved version and not AB's hackjob done without authorization from Cundey or Carpenter. I don't believe the one you have is the correct version, if you care that much. The correct one os either the old 2-disc LE, the TV version, the old single disc version and (possibly) the new O-ring slipcover version.
As for the rest: Halloween II (Universal) Halloween III (Yes, own it and watch it again to realize it rocks. Again, buy the Universal edition) Halloween IV (Divimax from AB) Halloween V (Divimax from AB) Halloween 6 (I say wait on it because a new edition with both cuts could be coming soon) Halloween H20 (Only edition in R1 is non-anamorphic. Import if you want 16x9.) Halloween 8 (Only one edition to get from Mirimax) Halloween '07 (Only get the 3-disc set if you care about the 4 1/2 hour long doc. If you don't then don't bother) And, yes, get Halloween: 25 Years of Terror. I'm not saying that because my friend put it together, it's actually a really good disc for fans of the series. It's a great supplement for the films that are featureless. |

I liked 3 but it can be skipped if you didn't enjoy it.... |
Re: Halloween Collection
Ok so how do I find out if my version of Halloween '78 is the correct Dean Cundey Approved Version and not the AB version or whatever. What is the difference is it in the movie or what? Can It be determined by the cover or not?
Anyways thanks for all the info, appreciate it! |
Re: Halloween Collection
I'll echo the previous thoughts on the 25 Years of Terror DVD--it's great! I assume you've seen all the Halloween films but are just now adding them to your personal collection. If you haven't seen them all, I'd do that before viewing the 25 Years of Terror.

Re: Halloween Collection
What about the Halloween box set that came out the end of last year? Would that be a good start?
|
Re: Halloween Collection
You need to pick these up Halloween II,Halloween IV, & Halloween H20 ASAP....
I'm surprised you own Resurrection before all of these.... lol |

Re: Halloween Collection
I'll also say that 25 Years of Terror is well worth it. Good stuff.

I own: - Halloween 30th Anniversary Edition Box Set (Anchor Bay) - Halloween - 2-Disc 25th Annivesary Edition (Anchor Bay) - Halloween II (Universal) - Halloween III: The Season of the Witch (Universal) - Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (Dimension) - Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later - Collector's Series (Dimension) - Halloween Resurrection (Dimension) - Halloween - Unrated Director's Cut Two Disc Special Edition Blu-Ray (Genius) - Halloween - Unrated Director's Cut Two Disc Special Edition (Genius) - Halloween - Two Disc Special Edition (Genius) - Halloween: 25 Years of Terror (Anchor Bay) My Unrated two-disc of the remake is technically unnecessary because the BD has all of those features, but it's a cool conglomeration of store-exclusives: it has the BB lenticular slipcover, the CC bonus disc, and the Hot Topic Rob Zombie autographed cover insert. If there weren't a few features missing from the Blu-Ray, I'd have sold my 25th Anniversary 2-Disc as well. |
Re: Halloween Collection

Re: Halloween Collection
Personally I like part three quite a bit.
Also if you can get your hands on it try to find the Producers cut of part six. It was never officially released and the quality of the added scenes is pretty crappy but as a huge Halloween fan I had to get it. |

Re: Halloween Collection
As you can see in Xage's picture, you can pick up the Halloween II and III as a double pack. I bought it for $9.99 which is a good price for 2 movies.

Also, I would think that buying Halloween 2 even if you don't like it... sounds like a waste of money. I never buy a movie I don't care for. I only have Halloween 25th anniversery, the new two-disc RZ Halloween, and Halloween 4 and 5. Not internested in the others in the series. |
Re: Halloween Collection
Since AB just lost (or will lose) rights to Halloween 1, 4 and 5, I'd wait to pick those up...I can't remember what studio got the rights to them, but they are likely to release yet another version of the film on DVD (and hopefully Blu).

Re: Halloween Collection
This thread reminds me. One of these days, I need to replace my Goodtimes Video version of "Halloween III"...

Perhaps the new studio will release the multi-disc "Ultimate Edition" that the first movie deserves... |

Re: Halloween Collection
Buy Halloween 25 Years Later. It's a must if you're a fan of the film/s. Also I cannot tell you how spectacular the Blu-Ray of the original looks!

Re: Halloween Collection
Resurrection was a terrible movie in its own right, but its mere existence after the incredible finale of H20, and the blatant greed in destroying what could have been the best ending to a horror movie franchise in history, makes it even more of a miserable failure.
I loved H20....it's the best sequel in the series (just slightly better than 4, which I also really liked). |

Re: Halloween Collection
I have to say as well that as a fan of the Original and a fan of the whole series that I enjoyed H20. Maybe it's because I'm really still young (I'm 19) or what but I really enjoyed H20. It was pretty much a more 90's version of the original. Now I did seriously hate Resurrection and it completely ruined H20 from its little prologue ending.

Re: Halloween Collection
What we need is a nice two disc for Halloween 2 just like the Halloween Limited Edition with the lenticular cover.
I want the different/longer television version on the second disc along with some nice extras. They've done so many different releases for Halloween 1 that I can't believe they've done nothing for Halloween 2. We even got an awful cardboard snapper for the case. It's just awful. Don't they know a limited edition for the sequel would sell like hotcakes? |

Re: Halloween Collection
Ah, that explains it. I didn't know that Anchor Bay didn't have the rights.
Universal is really being foolish. They're sitting on what could be a nice release. It's a bloody shame. |
Re: Halloween Collection
I may as well throw my 2 cents in. Here's my Halloween collection, unless some spectacular new Blu-ray editions come out (maybe official producers cut of 6?), I believe I am done with the series.
Halloween - 2-Disc LE w/ Lenticular cover Halloween 2/3 double feature (universal) Halloween 4 - Anchor Bay #'d tin Halloween 5 - Anchor Bay #'d tin Halloween 666 Producer's Cut - unofficial dvd, fair vhs quality with time codes Halloween 6 - Dimension version Halloween: H20 - Dimension R1 version (i believe this is non-anamorphic) Halloween Ressurection - Dimension R1 Halloween 25 Years of Terror - I highly recommend this set, I think of it as the completion of my "box set" I do not have the Rob Zombie remake. I saw it in the theatre and enjoyed it, but not enough to buy it, I'd prefer to stick with the classic. |
Re: Halloween Collection
Here's the Halloween crap I own:
Halloween - DVD and Blu-ray Halloween Extended Edition Halloween 2 Halloween 3 Halloween 4 Halloween 5 Halloween 6 Halloween 6 - uncut final version Halloween 6 - producer's cut Halloween 6 - rough cut(early workprint) Halloween 6 - tv version(theatrical and producer's cut hybrid) Halloween H2O Halloween H2O - workprint Halloween Ressurection - workprint Halloween 25 Years of Terror Halloween - Remake - Unrated Director's Cut Halloween - Remake workprint And yet the regular version of Resurrection isn't one of them. I guess it's something I was planning to get but just forgot about |

Re: Halloween Collection
When I was doing research after the October Horror movie challenge, the Box set that came out last year (with the mask) definitely contained everything to get a good start without having to do any additional double-dipping, and I think I got it for like $25 in the DDD 25% off sale. The rest of the titles were a little tricky to figure out which ones to get, in fact I haven't ordered everything yet. I will probably study this thread when I get home to get some answers for myself on the ones I haven't got yet.
