I was busy the weekend my friends went to go see it so I was the only one not getting all the references to the movie since then .

This will be a buy for sure, I rarely buy movies on release date but if I find a good deal on this I'll jump on it for sure.

Smith doesn't do Unrated, Extended cuts. The only one he wanted to do was Jersey Girl but I doubt the studio would give him a double dip.

Even the stuff cut due to MPAA complaints in J&SBSB was just presented in the deleted scenes section of the DVD. In the video intros, Smith made a reference to fans recutting the movie to add back in cut stuff.

Yeah, just forget about all the slight reedits that they did. Not to mention the whole thing about cutting the scenes BACK IN. Surely that doesn't constitute a new cut at all.

It does, but it's a special feature, and Smith's intro on the DVD expresses insistently that the theatrical cut is the version to watch.

Kevin Smith only puts out other versions when on the 10th aniversary of a movie, He couldnt for Chasing Amy because Critieron still owns the rights.

The point is that even with the different versions available for both Clerks and Mallrats, Smith is adamant that the theatrical cuts are his preferred versions.

It's the same with Zack and Miri. He has stated that there wouldn't be an "Unrated Extended Edition" on DVD, since the theatrical cut is his preferred cut (he didn't make additional cuts to it; he got the R rating on appeal). Now is it possible that Smith will do an alternate cut for an eventual Zack and Miri X, but it's too early to tell at this time.

Um, I would argue that Clerks and Mallrats are not extended cuts, but actually the first cuts of both films before Smith edited them for theatrical release. For Clerks, it was a matter of pacing and removing the ending. For Mallrats, it was the removal of an entire subplot (one that actually started the events of the film in motion) before it was changed due to the studio (and Smith) simply not liking it.

Well, in the case of Mallrats, Smith originally wanted to re-edit the movie, since it was the only film of his that he and Scott Mosier didn't do the editing on. However, after going through all the available coverage (or lack of, as he'll be the first to tell you), he then decided to do the extended cut that put all the deleted scenes back into the flick (which did resemble the original cut that test audiences didn't like).

Saw a trailer for this before the Threvening dvd. This looks like a really funny movie. Can't believe I missed it in theaters.

Wow. For a guy who likes to talk (and talk and talk and talk), this is surprising. His commentaries are always very funny. Bummer.

I guess you could always just play that episode of SModcast while watching the movie.

I saw this posted on News Askew:

The one massive omission here is an audio commentary track, we believe the first time it’s missing on a View Askew DVD. Kevin states an interest in using SModcast to record such a track that will run along with the film, so watch for it. Lucky Bluray owners should also be able to embed future tracks released automatically into the disc.

If he didn't want to do the traditional commentary they should have done a cast commentary with the actors in character.

That's not actually true...the original, single disc release of DOGMA did not have an audio commentary either....

Wow. That's pretty surprising, considering all the commentaries he's done, for not only his own movies, but for others as well (Donnie Darko, Road House, Spaced, etc.).

Hopefully, they do one via SModcast that can be downloaded via BD-Live or something of the sort...

What he said on Smodcast is, essentially, that it's too soon. It would have been different had the movie taken off and was a hit, but it tanking really bummed him out and he doesn't feel the need to revisit it just yet. Yet, ironically, him and Mosier spent about 2 hours on Smodcast talking about it.

The poor reception on Jersey Girl didn't stop him from recording a track for that one.

Anyway, I'll probably pass on this one, maybe pick it up cheap down the line.

Same here, although I'll certainly rent it when it becomes available. With the price drops that Genius Productions often offer within a year of release, I refuse to be suckered again. (Learned my lesson on both Grindhouse features)

However, if there are interesting store exclusives, I may be tempted to pull the trigger, but I'm hoping that I can just wait this one out.
