Premium Membership Features Announcement

I thought for sure that it would be ad-free once premium came out. I'm not seeing any features I would actually use.
I'll probably still bite the bullet any way since it's only $10.

My thoughts exactly. If Geoff still owned the site I'd happily contribute to help him cover his costs. But I don't see the point in giving my money to some big company for a handful of features that are of no real benefit. It's not as if paying the premium means no more ads or the return of XCritic.

I'm going to pass on this, myself. You all...(cugh)...go on...(ack)...without me....(aaagch).
FWIW, I'm never going to use any of those special features and I'm not paying 10bux just for an avatar. After awhile, everyone else will have avatars but me, so I'll be the one that stands out more!

Have your parents send $10 and a self-addressed, stamped envelope to DVD Talk, Boston, MA 02134. You'll receive a special membership certificate, a cool sticker for your Trapper Keeper, and the name and address of your own special DVD Talk pen-pal.

On this forum, there are not any ads displayed for anyone who is logged in. This does not include the rest of the site, as trying to get the rest of the site to follow the same logic is extremely difficult and taxing on the system.
So, basically, you don't need to be a Premium Member of the site to view the forum ads free-- you just have to be logged in.
At this time, yes.
We have made no changes to the billing process, what you can / can't do now is exactly the same as when we first opened this up.

I'm also not getting this. If they need the money to continue existing, they should say so. Instead, I'm reading about things that entice me not. I need another PM like I need another listen to the latest Bond Title song.
How about sending me 10 bucks to my PayPal and I'll continue to come here.

I'd consider this if it was truly $10/year. But it isn't. It is $20/year. It may be $10 for the FIRST year, but it's going to be $20/year after that. Or more if they raise the price. I like the features, but it's not worth $20/year to me...

Who's the genius at DVD talk that created the PANIC button? Put a patent on that act of genius...
Now since we are all chipping in, how about DVD talk creating a DVD catalog system similar to DVDspot?

Honestly, this is what I figured would be the first thing Premium Membership would entail. I'm surprised it's not there. The other features (other than an avatar) aren't very compelling, though some are fun. I hope that does come about...

Sorry, did I say Ads? I meant all that crap at the top that makes me scroll down further. Reviews, headlines, box art etc. Any way for premium people to turn that off? In 8 years I have never clicked on one of those. I have purchased a lot of products through the affiliate links but never even look at those links. Thus, why I thought they were still ads.
I do read the reviews and stuff but I just go to the home page when I'm in the mood. I don't need it in my face for every click of the forum. Losing those announcements and box art photos would be worth the price to me. I'm just not going to use any of these other features very much.

I had no problem giving $10 back.
For some of us (probably most of us), it wasn't about having an avatar, or a countdown.
