It's good to see Paramount removed the spoiler from the DVD synopsis of The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance that was on the last release. A bit off topic, but I was unaware until I saw the trailer that there was a song originally recorded for the movie. It's by Gene Pitney and can downloaded from Amazon for 89 cents. It's goofy in that 1960s cowboy song kinda way. I was also unaware that the movie was based on a short story by Dorothy Johnson. I checked out a collection of her short stories from the library, though I've yet to read it.
So, um, yeah, count me in for the Liberty Valance Centennial Collection release. |

I never double-dipped on To Catch a Thief the last time, and I admit I rolled my eyes when I saw they were releasing it again, but those screencaps look like a definite improvement. I think it's finally time to do it.

With the release of the new wave yesterday, I think there should be another announcement soon.
Even if Stalag 17, It's a Wonderful Life, and Once Upon a Time in the West have been done several times before, if they are released again under this banner with improved transfers and more features, I don't think I'll be able to resist. Also looking forward to first time releases of Wings and The African Queen. |

Universal Pictures should be doing a Paramount Centennial collection of its own, since they own the rights to all the pre-'48 Paramount titles, including the early Marx Bros., Mae West, W.C. Fields, Hope, Crosby, Hope and Crosby, Betty Hutton, Ernst Lubitsch, Mitchell Leisen, early Billy Wilder, Preston Sturges, THIS GUN FOR HIRE, Alan Ladd, etc., etc., etc.
The stuff cited in the OP starts at 1950, leaving out 38 significant years of Paramount's history. |

Restored ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST Screens across North America After premiering at the Rome Film Festival in 2007, the restored Sergio Leone classic, ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST (1968), celebrated its North American debut with several screenings across the continent. The film had its American premiere at a gala screening at the Miami International Film Festival on March 2nd, as part of the Preservation Screening Program presented by The Film Foundation and American Express. It next opened in New York City as part of the Tribeca Film Festival in association with the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) on April 30th. This was followed by a successful week-long engagement at MoMA from May 1st - 5th. The film then made its way to the West Coast for a premiere at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, on Friday, June 20th. The film premiered in Canada at the Calgary International Film Festival on Sunday, September 21st, as part of the Preservation Screening Program presented by The Film Foundation and American Express. All of the screenings featured an introductory presentation on the restoration process by Barry Allen, Executive Director of Film Preservation and Archival Resources at Paramount Pictures. The restoration of ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST was made possible with support by The Film Foundation and The Rome Film Festival in association with Sergio Leone Productions and Paramount Pictures. |

Nice! I've never seen The African Queen but I've heard so much about it, and I love Bogie, that it's a definite buy for me.
Paramount really needs to start issuing these on Blu day-and-date, though. I just got my review copies of El Dorado and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. Both look awesome. Can't wait to dive in! |
