David Lynch Box Set --> "The Lime Green Set": 11/18/08

From Dugpa:
Writer, director and artist David Lynch has personally selected these works, including many pieces new to DVD, and a “mystery disc” of content taken from Lynch’s own personal archives and available only in this box set.

BOX SET INCLUDES:

ERASERHEAD – REMASTERED VERSION

ERASERHEAD SOUND TRACK

THE SHORT FILMS OF DAVID LYNCH

THE ELEPHANT MAN

THE ELEPHANT MAN EXTRAS – DVD DEBUT

WILD AT HEART

INDUSTRIAL SYMPHONY No. 1 – DVD DEBUT

BLUE VELVET – NEW LYNCH APPROVED 5.1 SOUND MIX

DUMBLAND

MYSTERY DISC – DVD DEBUT

BOOKLET – FEATURING RARE LYNCH IMAGERY

Running Time +/- 720 minutes
DVD: 5/9
9 DVDs + 1 CD
PKG: Deluxe Box Set Packaging
UPC: 858334001398
Street Date: November 18th, 2008
SRP: $179.95

Hopefully the apparent Elephant Man SE will get a separate release somewhere down the line. Otherwise, this looks like a pass: a very high MSRP for a collection of films that most (all?) Lynch fans already own. Of course, there is that "rare Lynch imagery" to consider.

The only feature I don't own from this is Eraserhead, funnily enough, it looks like a winner for me since all the releases I have of the rest are pretty bare bones.

I really want INDUSTRIAL SYMPHONY, but I have pretty much everything else there. I think it will come down to what's on that Mystery Disc and how cool the booklet and packaging is. I bet the exclusive discs will be available separately in time, but you never know.

It's interesting that this set includes titles from a few different studios/owners so it is a bit unique in that respect.

Nov. 18th, eh? Sounds like it could be a prime candidate for a certain sale... I own just about all of this but, being a Lynch completeist, this set will have to be mine. Wonder if the fully uncut Wild at Heart will be included?

I have gotten confirmation that the Blue Velvet and Wild at Heart DVD should be identical to the existing releases with the exception that Blue Velvet will be getting a brand new 5.1 re-mix for 2008 which will be done by David.

I have the money to afford this easily, but the reason I do so is because I don't spend $180 on dvd sets that contain 4 movies I already own.

That price is absolutely insane. This actually sounded like a decent set until I noticed the price point. After that, all my interest went out the window.

I guess I'll be looking for a decent price on this in five years. Hopefully a sale in the DVD Bargains thread will eventually help me out.

Wow. This is pretty inexcusable. I guess his coffee sales aren't quite what he hoped, huh? Is this 'Mystery Disc' just gonna be 'Dynamic 02'?

I already have everything here on DVD except for 'Industrial Symphony No. 1', which I have on laserdisc (and which SHOULD have already been included in the 'Short Films' disc) so I'm gonna take the money I might have spent on this and put it aside for when he decides to release 'Inland Empire' on Blu-Ray.

I do want it, but $180 is steep. I thought I read $80 at first and I was wondering why people were complaining.

Depending on what's on the Mystery Disc, I might get it though. I imagine the set will look very nice, and I have no particular attachment to my MGM Blue Velvet/Wild at Heart DVDs, and I don't own the rest.

Inland Empire was shot on Standard Definition video. Although I admit that the DVD is very poorly mastered, there'd be little to gain by putting the movie on Blu-ray. A remastered DVD would suffice.

I want Industrial Symphony on dvd, but I hope it gets it's own release, since I have all the rest and am not double dipping for a few extras.

So this is the 3rd re-release of the same Eraserhead and Short Films dvds?

Lynch is a good film maker but he really needs to quit gouging his fans.

I'd only pay that if these were remastered for Blu-ray. We're waiting for Lynch on Blu.

Lynch has been trying to build several $1 billion churches of transcendental meditation. That money's gotta come from somewhere!

Exactly! If this were in Blu and at the same price point, I would be all over it.

i agree. i bought eraserhead when it first came out and paid the premium to get it. i own the rest, in apparently the same versions that are on this set (except for a remastered sound mix).

Well, I'm a Lynch fan, and out of that set only own Wild at Heart; strangely enough, a few days ago I was considering picking up Blue Velvet, Elephant Man and a couple of his other movies not included here, so I guess I can hold off a bit longer and wait for more details on this one.

But it might be a moot issue, since I don't want Dumbland or Eraserhead (the imagery and sound are amazing, but I find it a bit of a chore to sit through). Strange Lynch wouldn't include Inland Empire on this set, since he owns the rights to it (or at least I think he does).

Doesn't sound unreasonable for 9 discs plus a soundtrack. Plus it'll likely be knocked down to $130 - 140 or so at most stores.
