And when are we getting a decent Lost Highway release?

There was already a very well done Lost Highway release recently. And if that doesn't cut it for you, the French MK2 version is even better!

As for the deluxe version of Fire Walk With Me, I've seen all the cut scenes, and really, they just detract from the main story of Laura's story.

Okay, I was lying about seeing the FWWM scenes.

Last spring I just a bought a bunch of the Lynch movies separately, so forget it.
I wonder if the Rabbits series will be included in this box?
Seeing as many titles are missing, there'll probably be a "Blood Red Set", "Sky Blue Set", etc. released later.

everyone is pretty mad because they already own most of the discs in the set, as i do too, but $130 after discount for 9 DVDs and a CD isnt bad at all. especially when you consider Eraserhead and the Short Films were originally like 47 bucks on his site. this is extremely reasonable, at least for Lynch.

I was in until I saw that SRP - I love you David, but not that much!

Call me when it's under a $100

I'm just impressed his Absurda imprint managed to finagle the rights to Paramount and MGM releases in the same set. Now he can finally release Blue Velvet and Wild at Heart without chapter stops.

Eh, I'll pass on this, although I won't have any objections to The Elephant Man SE being sold separately.

Summarizes my feelings precisely. The price is insane. Almost entitledly insane.

The Elephant Man stuff is tempting -- it's one of my favorite movies. But this is going to be the easiest pass of the fall. Not interested.

Retail of $180. Standard Amazon discount is usually 30%, which drops us down to $126. Which breaks down to $14 a disc, and that's not including the Eraserhead soundtrack (and if you are, that breaks it down to about $12.50 a disc).

What's insane about that?

I'm not going to buy this, although I'd love to hear how they remixed Blue Velvet to 5.1 surround sound.

why the recent 2007 documentary 'Lynch' is not included is also annoying

Most of Lynch's "5.1" remixes are really 3.1, since he decided a few years ago that he doesn't like surround sound anymore.

Well, when you compare it to other collections such as the Alfred Hitchcock Masterpiece Collection(14 films on 15 discs with a street price hovering around $75), the price for the Lynch set is pretty steep.

That makes the 2-disc set of Elephant Man cost $30, and Wild at Heart/Blue velvet have been $9.99 for a long time. I mean, I would buy it for $180 but I do agree that it's high.

Except that it looks like Lynch is distributing this through his own company, like he initially did with Eraserhead and Short Films, and does not have the luxury of being one part of a giant company like Warners, which can offset their low prices in other departments. Licensing Elephant Man, Blue Velvet and Wild at Heart probably cost a bit, as did the new sound mix for Velvet. It's just like Criterion, yet you don't hear people complaining about their higher-than-usual prices when new ones are announced.

That's the key though; they're $9.99 now because they've each been on the shelves for over 6 years, and I'm pretty sure they weren't that cheap when they initially came out. Check back on this set in that timeframe, and chances are you'll see it at a lower price.

Has http://ecomm.davidlynch.com/catalog/boxset.php really dropped that much in the several years it's been available? I know they released standard singles for much cheaper but those aren't the same thing.

Perhaps the Mystery Disc will be this 2007 documentary. It's being released by Absurdia as well, so it is a possibility.

Speculation, but I imagine this'll be in stores; I don't think MGM and Paramount would allow their movies to be sold directly and exclusively from the director's website. However, Lynch is putting the set together himself, so who knows. As for the standard singles, I'm not sure why they count, seeing as how Lynch owns Absurda (which distributed the keepcase editions of Eraserhead and Short Films). The only difference really is the size of the box.

I thought the website said the bonus disc would be a collection of material from Lynch's archives, so I imagine it's something never seen before. I'd love to see the reaction if it was revealed to be the Fire Walk With Me deleted scenes.

Correct, and the disc is also exclusive to the set, which would also rule out the documentary I mentioned.

That would be excellent news, but for some reason I think the contents of the bonus disc are going to be decidedly mundane.

He's for chapter stops now. Inland Empire has them.

Anyway, I'd consider selling off all the discs I own now just to pick up this set. Can't wait to see what that mystery disc is.

People complaining about the price amaze me. I bet I can go through your collections and pick out at least $189 worth of stuff you wasted money on.

Go Lynch.
