It's nice to see that after all of their years toiling in the business that Matt Lanter and Amanda Walsh have finally earned name-above-the-title status.

Me neither. Studying IMDB, this seems to be a DIRECT-TO-VIDEO release. Yuck.

According to DVDActive, the transfer on the original is going to anamorphic. That'll be enough to get me to double-dip since the original wasn't. I'll pick up the SE and give my old DVD, sans booklet, to my sister.

If they released this the week before, it would come out EXACTLY 25 years to the day of its theatrical release.

Gonna have to get that War Games. Shame this won't be coming out on Blu-ray.

Hooray! Finally Wargames in 16:9. I hope the supplements are decent. I'll echo the laments of Canadian Bacon and GizmoDVD due to the the lack of a Blu Ray release but since this was such a neglected title for so long, I'm thrilled to be getting something. I guess it is true ... starve 'em long enough and they'll gobble even the tiniest nutritious morsel.

Yeah, but the original commentary that's being included is excellent.

Looks like this has been pushed to July 29 for release. Amazon still lists this as "Widescreen" rather than Anamorphic, as does DVDProfiler. But I assume it will be.

I saw an ad for this at a local theater:

PGFathom presents WarGames back on the big screen after 25 years. Don’t miss this one-night-only event in select movie theatres nationwide on Thursday, July 24th at 7:30PM. The event will include never-before-seen interviews with cast and crew on how the movie was ahead of its time and its relevance today. Additionally, only at this one night event, get a sneak peek at the making of the sequel.

From what I've heard Fathom does a pretty poor job with their presentations. I think they just get a copy of the upcoming DVD release and project it theatrically.

Since those never-before-seen interviews sound like the extras on the DVD, I'd be inclined to agree that they are just projecting the disc.

Good scheme.

Yeah, every single time Fathom does an event like this, they seem to screw up in at least a handful of the theaters it's showing in. And yes, I do believe they just project it from the DVD.

That's not really true.
Without spoiling anything, this is definitely a sequel, though not as directly as some sequels.

i picked this up this morning, but haven't opened it up yet, primarily because the back of the sleeve didn't mention 16x9 or anamorphic (it just said widescreen 1.85:1). can anyone verify if it is indeed anamorphic? thanks!

Re: War Games & Sequel Coming In June

tivo'd the sequel from MGMHD:

Wargames 2: The Dead Code - a generous 2/5

I was a fan of the original back in the day, although haven't watched it recently to see how it holds up. This? ummm... was a sequel that nobody was aching to see. A couple of characters (SPOILER: not Sheedy, not Broderick) from the original show up, and in fact play pivotal roles, but the overall storyline seems to have been scrapped from some clunky made-for-TV movie retrofitted to possibly cash-in on a little bit of dwindling nostalgia.
