Saw some screen caps on DVD Beaver...looks like I will be getting this one.
|
I saw it at Borders, but the sticker denoting the insert only stated that it was limited, not exclusive - and nothing about it being Border's-only. Also, they wanted a whopping $33 for it - I think I'll wait a few days.
|
Can someone explain to me what the fascination is with getting movies before their official release date? Do people realize the stores are breaking the law doing this, whether or not they are doing it on purpose or not. In my opinion buyers should do the right thing and purchase the dvd when they are suppose to be available. Do places like Ebay allow sellers to sell dvds before their official release date?

My Borders had already pulled them. Also their website has changed from 'available' to 'coming soon'.
Oh well, I can wait 6 days for it I suppose. |
just stopped by Borders and they still had 2 available--$22.99 on sale
now i gotta decide if i watch The Mist or the copy of Southland Tales i got from CH today |
I ordered the 2 disc from DD when the price was at $18.92, and got shipping notice today. Good find for me, but the price went up to $25 recently.
|
One of my favorite movies of last year, & maybe the biggest surprise. I really, really want this, but I want it on Blu-Ray, I hate to buy a SD version of this. Hopefully I can hold out.
|
I hope you're all happy. Apparently, the fines from the broken street date were so extensive, Borders has been forced to put itself up for sale today! ;)

I went to two Borders stores yesterday and didn't see The Mist. Either they were told to pull them or they were all sold out.

I started to watch the B/w version last night and its interesting. It has that old monster movie feeling. I quite like it so far and recommend everyone check it out who loved the movie. See which you like better. |
So, the question is... I've never seen the movie. Should I start with the B/W version, or go ahead and watch it in color first?

Just listened to the commentary and saw the extras this morning. Glad I picked it up early. This is a great DVD. |
I OTOH recomend the b/w version, as its essentislly the 'Directors cut' of the film, and I've always been a big fan of the filmakers original vision. It's actually very good without color, and does a lot toward helping the CG work blend with the live action. Plus once you actually get into the story, you really don't even notice the lack of color.
And yes, definately some very solid extras here. Not a single Hollywood puff piece in sight. The Directors enthusiasm for the whole project is really infectious. You can tell from the commentary and the behind the scenes stuff that the man really had a great time shooting this one. It also deserves props for the short feature on Drew Struzan. He painted most of the greatest movie posters of the past 20 years, but I'm embarassed to admit I've never known his name until now. |
The extra on Drew Struzan was good. After watching it, i wish it was longer. He does some great work.

still no news on whats the bestbuy exclusive? come on...

Can you handle twice the terror from this Stephen King combo? When a mysterious mist descends, it unleashes a barrage of bloodthirsty creatures on a small town. Panic overshadows reason as a group of people fight for their lives while confined to a grocery store in The Mist. Right now you can pick up the new 2-disc collector's edition DVD of this spine-chilling tale from master storyteller Stephen King for only $22.99. You'll receive numerous behind-the-scenes bonus features, plus a paperback copy of page-turner The Mist inside. Which one will keep you up at night — the book or the movie? |
hmmm isn't that the same book included in all copies like someone mentioned above or is it something else?
|
BB's copy comes with the novel and the dvd just has a 4 page insert.

I honestly thought he was dead. I heard about a poster artist dying some years ago, and I swore it was this guy. Glad he's still alive and kicking...what he does is certainly a dying art form. Who will pick up that mantle once he's gone? |

Anyone know if the B&W version is on the 1st or 2nd disc? I need to get the right one in my Netflix Queue.
|
^2nd disk
|
evidently Kmart has an "exclusive" the mist beenie.
So is the booklet from boarders exclusive, or just a limited first pressing kind of thing? If so, does the bext buy set come with the novel and the limited booklet? |

http://trev-solo.deviantart.com/ He's only 20 or 21, from what I've read, but he's already got a Struzan level of talent. In a year or two I'm hiring him to do a poster for a film I'm shooting now. |
Thanks for that link. he isnt too bad. He's not up there yet but pretty damn good for being so young.

The best buy exclusive does include the booklet.
The book isn't part of the set, it's separate, and they're just shrinkwrapped together. |

true, but i watched with color off and thought it was better this way. |

They used the same process The Coen's used on The Man Who Wasn't There.
Filmed in Color and desaturated in post. |
Circuit City only advertised the 1-disc, but their website has the 2-disc for $19.99, which is the lowest I've seen. I wonder if that's in-store also. Their website doesn't quite match up with pricing as well as Best Buy.

I Got mine from columbia for $12.48 - $15.00 With shipping for the Two disc i thought that was a pretty sweet deal

Okay can somebody help me out, what version should I buy? I see all these exclusives and black and white versions and now I am confused. I've never seen the movie but that doesn't matter, I just want to make sure I don't regret what I buy (at least until the BD gets announced the minute after I open it).

I got it @ CC for $19.99. I don't need the book since I already own it. The beanie is kinda cool, but there isn't a K-Mart anywhere near me I know of.
