Meh...foreign release, and in a dying format. Ah well...it'll hit BR eventually.

Naughty! 01-24-08 03:24 AM

For those of you who haven't seen this film, yes it is very much worth watching (and owning). Probably the best Stephen King adaptation ever. This was my favorite movie of last year by far. I can't praise this film enough. If you liked the other Darabont/King movies, then you'll like this.

This is a day one 2 disc purchase for me.

Rolling Stone doesn't know shit and the fact that they picked it for the worst horror of the year just prooves it even more. The Mist was the best horror film of last year, followed by Grindhouse. The worst was probably Halloween, or Hills Have Eyes 2.

I fucking HATED Dreamcatcher and LOVED The Mist, so I'd say it is definitely worth your time.

Maxflier 01-24-08 08:08 AM

That's good to hear, thanks. I'll probably give it a blind buy then.

Didn't bother me at all. Knowing what was out there in that mist, it's almost owrse having to guess what did happen to him. You know it wasn't pretty!

I'm very curious about this b&w version included on the 2-disc set. Sounds like an interesting idea, although I don't know if I could watch the entire film like that.

You didn't look hard enough.

Michael Corvin 01-24-08 01:02 PM

So no HD version? Weak sauce. Netflix wins again.

Well, it's definitely better than DREAMCATCHER, but besides the cheering rally here in this thread, THE MIST did receive very mixed reviews. And I assume the people who didn't care for the film just don't bother clicking on this thread to comment on the release date. Personally, I found the film to be pretty weak with a ridiculous ending that contradicts everything the characters were about. The CGI monsters were unconvincing as well. I'd say netflix it and give it a chance, though. You may love it. You may hate it.

notkevinbacon 01-24-08 01:54 PM

Loved it. 2 disc all the way. Admittedly, not for everyone... but, compared to the other monster movie in recent memory... I liked it a lot more than I liked Cloverfield (which I did enjoy).

I'm very interested to see the B&W version.

And Rolling Stone? Worst horror movie of the year?! WTF? Out of what I saw that goes to Halloween or Saw IV.

No, because I assumed a huge retailer like Amazon would actually stock this. Thanks for the heads-up!

Zodiac_Speaking 01-24-08 04:47 PM

I liked the film a lot, but was on the fence about owning it. Now with the extras released, hell yeah I'm down to buy it. I knew they include the B&W version! Awesome, sure the Blu ray would be better, but take what you can get sometimes.

chris_sc77 02-01-08 03:32 PM

Ain't it cool news has posted video of the Introduction to the Black and White version of the film.

Aside from the inappropriate red tint (probably chosen to make the cover look more ominous to the horror-section shelf-browser), I rather like it. There are no floating heads, no monsters shown/spoiled, the text is small enough to let the art be dominant, and it's a variation on the original poster art. The font used also pays tribute to the pulpy old horror movies Darabont was inspired by.

animatedude 02-10-08 02:26 PM

oh god no!!!! NO! NO! NO! what's wrong with this one?

Zen Peckinpah 02-10-08 04:35 PM

Get rid of Pete Hammond's fanboyism and I'm perfectly fine with the art. He'd probably give the Ass movie from Idiocracy a glowing review.

Hmm...I'll take a shot at what's wrong with that one... It sucks?

The DVD art looks very similar to the theatrical poster.

Willo007 02-10-08 06:37 PM

This might be a little bit premature, but I think it will be released as a Best Buy Exclusive Steelbook:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....p=1&id=1819486

Rammsteinfan 02-10-08 06:40 PM

Ohhh gonna go for the steelbook if thats what it is. Even if its a differnet exclusive cover, ill go for anything besides the regular cover art.

let's hope it's a different cover artwork too.

manicsounds 02-25-08 11:40 PM

why did this disappear from most e-tailers?
amazon doesnt have it up anymore, best buy still says March 25th, cdwow says April 22nd.

argh923 02-26-08 02:02 AM

Looks like it's been delayed...maybe for a Blu-Ray release as well?

http://www.amazon.com/Mist-Andre-Bra...4012888&sr=1-3

I know the picture doesn't match at ALL - but the cast is definitely from The Mist.

mikelowry 02-26-08 05:46 AM

Amazon emailed that it was available for pre order, but it just vanished from their site after a couple of days. Really a big wonder for me.

manicsounds 02-28-08 05:29 AM

http://www.amazon.com/Mist-Two-Disc-...4198039&sr=1-2

Its back, same March 25th date, same price

ScissorPuppy 02-28-08 07:03 AM

The background coverart is from the international poster.

I wish they would have done the two disc like WB did for TGM and TSR. Some nice art, which the alternate poster could have worked for.

Matthew Ackerly 03-18-08 03:49 PM

Anyone have any idea what the best buy exclusive is?

Cosmic Bus 03-18-08 05:39 PM

Borders has this one out a week early (it's listed as a laydown for the 18th on all of our date listings and merchandising materials). $22.99 for the 2-disc.

Rammsteinfan 03-18-08 06:32 PM

Yup, borders had a ton of copies out. Got the 2 disc. Do they all come w/ the Limited Edition booklet or is that a Borders exclusive?

Cosmic Bus 03-18-08 07:09 PM

I think they all come with it, or at least the 2-disc does. The only exclusive Borders had this week was the Atonement postcards, IIRC.

dman988 03-18-08 07:19 PM

Should I wait for the BD version (that surely should come out since Genius will start releasing Blu this year) or just pick up the 2-disc at Borders?

Somebody help please...

xfilekr 03-18-08 07:46 PM

Dark Delicacies has it on their site...forget where I saw this posted at:
THE MIST
On March 25th at 7 p.m., Thomas Jane signs the two-disc collector's edition of THE MIST (DVD).

Ended up $41 w/ shipping for me.

Was the booklet attached to the outside of the DVD or was it packed in? Any Borders sticker on the front?

If it was attached on the outside, it's 100% a Borders exclusive.

If not, then it's 50/50, could be Borders exclusive, or could be native to the 2-disc. Pan's Labyrinth had a Borders exclusive booklet packed inside for example.

Rammsteinfan 03-18-08 09:53 PM

It has a sticker on the outside and the book inside but doesnt say exclusive to Borders. I havent opened it yet in case someone knows of a better exclusive somewhere else. I may just open it later tonight. i doubt anyone out there will have a steelbook or 3 disc exclusive...?

Willh51 03-18-08 11:56 PM

Thanks OP, got mine at Borders tonight, seems like a great set for a movie that (I loved) did not do well financially and with many audience members. Not sure if its a Borders exclusive, the booklet is really just a couple page insert, nice to have, though.

Panda Phil 03-19-08 04:11 AM

Picked up the two-disk at Fred Meyers tonight. Had the booklet inside like an insert. Cover art isn't bad, but would've been better without the damn grey border and giant Hammond blurb.

Father Karras 03-19-08 07:29 AM

There was some speculation of a Best Buy exclusive (and a listing on their website for a while) but I no longer see such a listing for this at BestBuy.com. Does anyone know if Best Buy (or any other retailer) is still planning some sort of exclusive? If not, I'll be heading to Borders today...really enjoyed this film.

With a budget of $18 mil and a box office take of $41 mil, i think they did pretty well. Not blockbuster well but it wasnt a bomb. DVD sales will do well i hope. It was one of the best films last year.

I started to watch the B/w version last night and its interesting. It has that old monster movie feeling. I quite like it so far and recommend everyone check it out who loved the movie. See which you like better.

It's still on there. It might just be a lenticular or some sort of exclusive slipcover.
