Kojak, which I don't think I'm ever going to see, and Hill Street Blues would be my choices.

On the subject of Hill Street, I'm a bit surprised its successor Thursday night show, LA Law hasn't appeared yet.

I think FOX should just blow off producing bonus material for NYPD Blue and save a few bucks to start cranking out seasons 5-12. The bonus material has been nice, but if it sacrifices getting the show out, then I'm all for bare-bones sets.

I know it seems like I’m commenting on everything here, & I sort of am & I apologize if it’s getting annoying.

Anyways, with Kojak, I don’t think even if the season one DVD sold well, Universal would’ve released the second season on DVD. The only reason they released the 1st season of Kojak on DVD was because they were trying to promote they’re new version of Kojak starring Ving Rhames & (now on Without a Trace) Rosalyn Sanchez that aired on the USA network. It got cancelled after 1 season.

Apparently the second season is being released in December in R2 (UK) but no announcement yet for the R1 release.

I agree; if it means sacrificing all bonus features in order to see the rest of the seasons get released on DVD, I say do it.

Most TOD sets have minimal/none extra features after the 2nd/3rd season is released on DVD. Some titles (Sony TV sets are most guilty) don’t even have extra features on the first season DVD.

I didn't realize that! I was gonna start picking up the individual releases with the next ddd sale, but guess now I'm gonna wait. This seems weird for such an iconic television series...

My list includes:
Barney Miller-OMG I want this so bad, and a lot of the cast are still alive. I would love to hear some commentaries. Hello Abe Vigoda!!
However, I will take bare-bones, this is my FAVORITE show.
Malcolm in the Middle
Just Shoot Me
Night Court
Party of Five
Without a Trace
Night Gallery.

It seems to be a double edged sword, the studios feel that not enough people have bought some series, but I know a load of people that don't want to buy anything unless they know the other seasons are coming out.
If Miami Vice can get their music rights together, and Shout Factory could release Freaks and Geeks...wtf is going on with these other companies? I won't even buy WKRP unless they get it right!

I would not count on WKRP ever getting it right with regards to music rights....way too $$$, I had to go with the region 2 versions of Quantum Leap because of that very issue.

nobody seems to have mentioned mad tv. after releasing the 1st season, they put out a best of disc of the later seasons. but nothing from the middle season when the show really hit it stride with charactors like funky walker dirty talker desperation lee, the hyperactive ups driver, the bug eyed caffiene addict, and bonifa latifa shirifa jackson

Huh?? What alternate series finale?? As I recall, the third season ended with the fate of the series undecided and there never was a series finale. Did I miss something?

The creator of the series Jonathan Prince shot an alternate ending that would have wrapped up the series nicely and given it closure. I believe I read the ending was almost 12 minutes in length. NBC told him to shoot 2 different endings because they were unsure if the series would be cancelled. However, music clearance issues prevented that ending from ever actually airing and NBC chose to air the open-ended ending. I recall Prince mentioned that he wanted this ending to make the DVD for season 3.

Kinda shocking considering the show had so much music. This was one of my favorite series and I was seriously pissed off that the network didn't give enough of a damn to provide any closure. This is my one gripe concerning canceled shows; they seldom wrap up existing plot lines or provide any closure.

Definitely pissed off about that, But I’ve heard (just rumors) that Paramount doesn’t have rights to Cheers anymore.

If they do still have the rights to Cheers & they don’t release the final 3 seasons on DVD, instead of sending peanuts to the studio, I’m sending Beer, & lots of it!... Oh, wait a minute…

Even though I doubt it will ever come out, I still hope for a release of the second season of War of the Worlds. The way that show was presented on DVD is appalling, and even if there were no bonus features on it, I'd still buy it. On that note, there have been a lot of Canadian TV series that need releases too. Where the hell are the season sets for shows like Counterstrike, Neon Rider, Traders, The Red Green Show or Night Heat?

I read that NBC was going to air this special extended episode that August (2005) to provide the series it's closure, but they couldn't sell enough ad revenue to pay for the music.

Amen!

I’ve been waiting for Night Heat to be released on DVD for ages & I doubt we’ll ever see it. In case you want to catch the show, it runs in syndication on TVtropolis at 6:00 AM. TVtropolis has also been airing Counterstrike, Neon Rider & Traders in syndication.

Still though, I’d love to own Night Heat, The Red Green Show, etc… on DVD. How about one of the most popular & beloved Canadian TV shows of all-time, The Beachcombers being released on DVD. Sure there were 387 episodes but a still, Why not released?

Alliance Atlantis released the first season of Cold Squad on DVD on September 2nd of 2003 & then it nothing. Same with Da Vinci’s Inquest, Acorn Media thankfully bought the rights to the show & is starting to release more seasons with season 2 coming out November 13th/07.

Both seasons of Rat Patrol (complete series) have been out of DVD for some time.
