Wonderful to hear! This absolutely ranks as one of Anderson's finest. It's only underrated because it's his first, but it totally has his unique touch...

That's the correct answer here.

I like Bottle Rocket as much as the next guy, but I am really shocked at the level of excitement over such a non-news item.
How many times has a filmmaker said "We're working on the dvd right now." only to have it never materialize? The fact that it's a Sony property is scary enough.
Also, yes, Sony has let a TON of smaller films go OOP recently.

Yes, a lot of studios and people have said they're working on DVD releases to never have it happen, but this has now been offically announced by Criterion.
And, if you follow Criterion's history, you know that because they're been burned before, they have a very strict policy to never officially announce that they will be doing a DVD unless everybody involved, including the rights holders, are air-tight into it.
So, if they announce it (and they have), then it's gonna happen.
Now, what I wonder is if the original short film will appear. I remember hearing that it wasn't released before, because it used Peanuts music as a temp track, and there were rights issues. So, I wonder if, since they were able to use Peanuts music in The Royal Tenenbaums, they can smooth things over enough to include it, or if they'll be able to just use creative editing on existing Mothersbaugh music from Bottle Rocket and use that as a score instead.
Either way, I'm terribly, terribly excited, since this movie was a blind buy on LD for me when it first came out, only because I remember seeing clips of it on the MTV Movie Awards or something where Wes Anderson got an award or something for it.
Afterwards, I fell in love with the movie, and would show it to just about anybody who would sit still long enough, and yet nobody else ever really liked it except me.
But, regardless of whether people like it or not, I think it deserves a Criterion edition because it was, after all, the movie that introduced the world to Wes Anderson and Luke & Owen Wilson, for good or bad.

lcnickell, threadcrapping is against forum rules. If you aren't interested in the DVD, please don't post in the thread.
