Slop101, San Onofre has some killer breaks, long and fun, but it's been years since I've been there. The whole commute thingy is taking it's toll, not as young as I once was (lol, 36) ... same goes for Trestles and Salt Creek, my old haunts. Plus in the past 10-15 years or so those places have just become massively crowded, I can't stand crowded line-ups.

Anyway, peace bra!

And now back to your previously scheduled program...

I'm assuming that they will be 'limited' to how many they can get rid of in the first release..... maybe even a 100,000.......

then turn around and say that there are no more....

then come out a few months later to say that they have found more stock.....

I can't see them being 'too limited' to find them on eBay as soon as they are released (Warners don't make anything out of eBay sales !! )

I bumped this because the other thread has a) gotten too long, and b) devolved into an ugly HD vs SD discussion, with little to no info on the actual BR releases.

So, it looks like we're stuck paying $30 extra if we want the workprint in SD!

Screw you, Warner's... No thanks to that little greedy marketing scheme...

Wanna switch places with me temporarily? We in the R2 land get only a non-briefcase version of the 5-disc SD version which pisses me off because I want the suitcase.

Really? Ridley Scott was famously unhappy with the theatrical version because it was butchered by the studio. The ending of it wasn't even shot for Bladerunner- it was an outtake from Kubrick's The Shining.

I saw the new Final Cut during it's theatrical release recently (so there, it IS a theatrical version) and it is magnificent. I would be quite happy with the 2-disc set if I wasn't such a completest. It is the best version I've seen.

IM a HUGE Blade Runner fan but its Final Cut 2 disc for me .I already have the re-released directors cut and have no interest in the other versions. Also I think that suitcase thing is the worst packaging idea ive seen come along since DVD came out

Takeshi357: out of curiosity, how much would you pay for the blade runner suitcase? the difference between the dvd 4-disc and 5-disc+suitcase versions at amazon is like $34! all i want is the 5 discs, but not if i have to pay for that suitcase.

I'm a sucker for gimmicks, so I'd say "a lot". :P

Which, in this case, pretty much rounds up to "what they're asking for it". Of course, the real issue for me is the overseas shipping...

What Takeshi357 said!
I don't even like Blade Runner all that much, but the suitcase just looks so damn awesome!

What's with the briefcase and toys packaging anyway? Isn't this a very adult film? Looks like a Happy Meal.

I wish they had just skipped the 4-disc set and let people choose a plain or briefcase 5-disc set. I really would like to check out the workprint cut but just can't justify spending 35 dollars more for that one disc. The briefcase/pictures/little paper unicorn and toy car mean nothing to me- they would just rot under my bed or something.

The truth is, the Theatrical cut and workprint cut would be at best curiosities to check out (haven't seen the Theatrical since I was like 9 or 10). But I think the Final Cut is probably the best version of the film and would be happy with just that.

If there were a reasonably priced non-briefcase 5-discer, I'd pick it up, but no way I'm spending 60 bucks for one movie.

Is there a 5-disc version WITHOUT the briefcase in R1? At futureshop there's this one here :
http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...3&catid=14758#

But they don't say if it's the briefcase or not and the picture is just the 5-disc edition.

But yeah like someone else said i'd really like to know how that briefcase set really is. It really is a collector's dream. I love sweet packaging like that.

Also how limited is that briefcase? Can i even wait a couple weeks before getting it?

Thanks.

But they don't say if it's the briefcase or not and the picture is just the 5-disc edition.
Part of the features for that version listed are:
  • Limited Edition Numbered "Deckard Briefcase"
  • Spinner Car
  • Unicorn Figurine
So yes, it's the briefcase version, and no, there's no 5-disc R1 DVD set that comes sans briefcase.

You could've also searched other sites for the UPC, 085391144847, which would've brought up results like this:
http://www.amazon.com/s?url=search-a...s=085391144847

As for how "limited" the release will be, I don't think WB has released a definite number. Even if they had though, it'd be impossible to guess how popular the briefcase sets will be.

Yes but it says they will be numbered, and that usually means that they have a set number.

Well, yes, it will have a set number, but nobody knows yet what that set number is. It could be 1200, it could be 12,000,000; nobody knows at this point.

Just don't try pulling off that argument on someone who's into model trains.

They're not toys, they're collectibles!

Sides, with the prices they're selling for the bare-bones 5-discer over here, the briefcase is actually cheaper.

Briefcase, baby. And like Popcorn, this will get me to buy a Hi-Def player. Now, HD, or BD, that is the question.

I made that same observation myself a while back. When you think about it, there's really no point to the 4-disc set. It just introduces more confusion, and pisses people off.

They should have just offered a 2-disc set available in either SD/HD DVD/BD, a 5-disc digipack in either SD/HD DVD/BD, and the Briefcase in either SD/HD DVD/BD. Also, when you really look at the pricing structure, it leaves you scratching your head as to why there is even an option for a 4-disc SD set.

I caved in and bought a PS3, January's release of the Samsung combo player will get added to the upstairs home theatre system... I know that's completely unhelpful, but that the progression/addition of high definition for me.

I'm a little late to the game on this one, but can anyone clue me in as to what the extras are for this? Commentary, anything of that nature, I hope?
