So much for "ultimate". Why can't these companies get these things right? The Twin Peaks "Definite" Set leaves us special features from both season sets, and now this.

Gotcha

I'm getting this "Ultimate" Edition for Christmas, but I'm also keeping the Mythology sets. Not even for the commentaries, but so that I don't have to open up this huge box to watch an episode, I could just pop in a disc from the Mythology sets if I'm lazy.

Some of the effects are a little dodgy but the 1st season has some fantastic monster-of-the-week episodes and some great early mythology episodes.

Man, nobody can grab a camera and take a picture of the set? I thought there were lots of x-philes around here. My set is shipping from bn.com
Here is a picture I grabbed from an eBay auction:

And I found another forums with pics! yay!!!

Honestly, 2 out of my 5 favorite 'stand alone' episodes came from season 1. Ice and Beyond the Sea

I don't care for the packaging. Those cardboard backs with the slits to slide the disc in are just begging for scratches. That's cheap. But probably not as damaging as the ALIAS set packaging. That was a nightmare.

I received my set from BN.com yesterday. After marvelling at the awesome outer packaging, I was sad to see that the inside was pretty damaged. The outer cover folds up to reveal the individual season sets stacked in the top and a cardboard drawer in the lower front. Well, I tried to slide the drawer out but it wouldn't budge, then one corner of it tore open! There were some facial tears and crush marks under the drawer area too. I then took out the season packs and found that the carboard piece that holds all of the sets up was ripped and pushed through to the drawer area, which is why it wouldn't move. Once I pulled the drawer out it would not go back in flush with the front again, so the magnetic outer cover that folds down would not sit flush against the inside wall.
Very, very disappointing. This was a great price with the 50% off coupon that was going on a few weeks ago, but it also illustrates the perils of buying a collector's set through mail order. I called customer service and described what the box was like and they are supposed to be sending me a prepaid return label and a replacement set. So far so good on the service side. I just hope the next one is in better shape. I'm not asking for a pristine box, but I won't settle for the shredded cardboard mess I received the first time.

I picked one up today at work for $131.99 (I work at the FOX lot in Los Angeles, hence the massive discount) I think the set is pretty damn cool and I cannot complain about the price I got it for. The drawer that stores the comic and pamphlets was a little dinged up, but still in good shape. It seems like the set retained all the content from the original digi-pack sets and I was very pleased to see that.
I was busy going though the episode guide and I didn't realize there were very few commentaries in each season. Seems to range between 2-3.

Has anyone checked out the Season 6 episode 'Triangle'? It has a screwed up transfer on the Season 6 set. Here's hoping it has been fixed for this complete series?

Plus, there are some scrapes on the sides also. Sweet set, but this is really disappointing. Does anyone know if the B&M store would allow me to swap it out there?
Because I had heard of others with this problem, I removed the dvd's then inserted a small ruler into the drawer "handle" and pushed up gently on the damaged surface while pulling out the drawer. I temporarily put the drawer back in upside-down and I'm going to try and sure up the damaged flap with some black tape.
I think I can live with this because of the great deal.

I verified something strange last night...
I had looked over the set at BB the week it was released.
When I received my copy from BN I noticed that the box text was bilingual. (French) I thought this was kind of odd, and was almost sure the copy at BB was not this way.
Stopped by BB last night and double checked; just English.
Who else received the bilingual box and why?

I also remember that the MSRP for the original sets was $150. Thank god that this wasn't the norm.

Anyway, I haven't opened mine yet and the outer box looks fine, but there's stuff rattling around inside. I guess that's a bad sign.

Looks nice, I'm just waiting for the price to come down to the $120 to $130 range (too bad I don't work at Fox lots!).
I did see the individual seasons today at Meijer at BOGO free, so $180 for all nine seasons. Not a horrible price, but not a great price either.

I'll just wait until it shows up as a DOTD on Amazon when it's half off like all the other tv shows, then i'll pick it up. Plus aren't they making a sequel to the movie, so that'll probbly mean ANOTHER box set.
