It's not a comparison to the older MGM DVD, but here is a review of the new Sid and Nancy release from The Digital Bits. On the basis of this review, it seems like this was a missed opportunity in many ways. Review here

Thanks for that link but this bit left me

"Fans who appreciate the squalid charms of this film and who are looking to retire their worn-out VHS copies of Sid & Nancy may be satisfied with this slim edition"

Say what? Peter: Sid & Nancy has been in print in R1 on DVD for a long time...

If anyone has this and can post a screen grab or two it might help... I posted this earlier in the thread but here's the link to DVD Beaver's comparison of the other versions of the film.

So, still no reviews other than the Digital Bits one... which somehow fails to address the most significant question about this release? Is it a new transfer, and is it a better transfer than Criterion's?

Well, this does suck for the people who spent undgodly sums on eBay picking up the Criterion edition.

The extras on the Criterion are exclusive. And the transfer, while not anamorphic, is better than the previous MGM release.

Richard - I hear ya... It's getting to the point where I'm almost ready to buy the damn thing myself so that I can compare all three releases.

How so? Do you know something about the transfer we don't? I'll assume you have some clue, and aren't simply thoughtlessly spreading mis-information. Simply put, MGM hasn't done well by this title yet, so none of us are assuming anything.

And as anyone can plainly see from the lame list of special features on the new MGM, the Criterion is crucial for the extras. And, so far at least, it's still the best transfer... until, perhaps, we get a real review of this latest release.

Does anyone know why the new edition isn't available at Amazon.com?

I'm also wondering why the new edition doesn't have the extras as promised. Where's the Chelsea Hotel doc? Which disc actually has that?

Does anyone know why this DVD dissapeared/went out of print. Most e-tailers don't even list it anymore on their sites. Was this DVD ever released?

I bought it during DDD's 20% sale. Good transfer but extras suck.

i bought it the day it was released - it was not easy to find at best buy, IIRC.

Just go to bestbuy.com & check for store availability in your area. Every Best Buy close to me seems to have it in stock according to their website.

It also shows that it is on sale for $9.99 (MSRP $19.98).

This will have to wait at least one more month, since that is the timeframe for the first BB to open in Puerto Rico.

could be wrong (and sometimes am just known to be wrong!), but i dont think the slipcover is exclusive to bestbuy. i just think it was exclusive as in bestbuy was able to sell this dvd first.
