Some great quotes on that site. This one was always a favorite...
Arius : Your father appears to be cooperating. You will be back with him soon. Won't that be nice?
Jenny : Not as nearly as nice as watching him smash your face in.

this was on AMC channel last night. whenever it's on, i gotta watch it. the first five minutes had me in stitches, where Arnie and his daughter are chumming it up. it's so bad, it's good.

Never got the original release, so I'll be picking this up. This was on tv last night, so I was able to watch some of it and relive some of those hilarious moments.

Since I only watched the DC, I can’t comment on the alterations, but I wanted to mention that the two versions appear here – and that they don’t seem to be very different.

I don't care what that review says, this movie is the greatest.
"Don't disturb my friend, he's dead tired."
Easily Ah-nulds most quoteable movie ever!
Less than a week to go, I can't wait!

Well, he has a point: Commando is a spectacularly incompetent movie, full of continuity errors, inept direction/editing, some really badly done action sequences, a plot that seems to have been thought up a couple of days before shooting, and of course, the requisite cheesy 80's power-rock song over the closing credits.
However, there's just so much to enjoy in the movie, that all you can do is basically just smile at its utter stupidity and odd quirks (like how Matrix's watch seems to loudly countdown the seconds, or why a handgun he uses in the big shootout sounds like a shotgun and seems to only have a few bullets).
By the way, I think I'm the only one here who was hoping for the director's cut to be shorter than the theatrical version, eliminating any scene that didn't involve one-liners, guns or people getting threatened, injured, and/or killed. Those 60 seconds or so really slow down the movie.

Isn't telling people in this thread that the movie is crap kind of pointless?
Even as a kid I knew this wasn't the best movie out there. When Matrix rolls the yellow car over and drives off, the previously damaged side is now suddenly fixed.

Yes, the plot will never be held up as an example of airtight logic; and yes, there's a reason why Mark L. Lester has spent the majority of his career in direct-to-video squalor. However, I will take issue with the remark that the action scenes are "badly done." Perhaps the majority of them are choreographed in a fairly workman-like fashion, but there are a couple of memorable setpieces-- one being the military surplus store scene and the infamous toolshed scene. Realistically, how creatively can a director (on what probably was a tight schedule) film one man gunning down an entire island's militia? I'm sure that there wasn't much time for Lester to line up the stuntmen, roll film and shout, "And... fall!"
I will agree that the movie has many other things going in its favor. There's a goofiness to the whole affair that makes it hard for one to hate the movie. The movie has a genuine eagerness to please and speeds along with an almost mercenary economy. I'm looking forward to receiving my copy.
