I've been with DVDAF since July 2004. In November 2005 they stated that 2.0 was being developed. There is a whole forum dedicated to 2.0 and for members to make suggestions as to changes they would like to see in 2.0. This should not have been a surprise to anyone. I had no problems migrating my collection to 2.0. Judging from threads that I have read, at least 90% of the people having problems are having a problem because they think they are putting their correct email address, but in fact, they forgot what email they used originally. Looking at the number of people who complained about the "500" title limit on folders, these are people just using the service for free. Free is a very good price for a service that lets you add as many DVD's as you want as long as you put them in seperate folders and keep those folders to 500. I have been paying $20 a year since I joined and can have up to 2000 DVD's in a folder, the most I have is over 700 in my Horror folder. 2.0 has some great new features, one-page mode with larger pictures(if you donate), better search functions and I can edit DVD info a lot faster now. I am sure that there will need to be some tweaking done to the program, but overall I am impressed with the changes.

Sam, will DVDSpot ever have an easier URL for member collections? Like username.dvdspot.com or dvdspot.com/username ?

Not that I'm aware of though you can post a message in the relevant forum and perhaps Croy would implement it.

It isn't really far off this one at the moment anyhow: dvdspot.com/username

www.dvdspot.com/member=

So in essence it is only the member= bit that makes it longer.

i.e.

www.dvdspot.com/member=samdvd1

Yeah, sorry. We can't all be as good at it as Groucho. As I stated in other threads: I am a former DVDAf user who loves DVDSpot.

That didn't seem to work easily either.

When I try to re-import it:

1. Has everything at "don't import" with a note of "already in your collection."
2. It was only bringing up the first 52 titles as far as I could tell.

Oh well, no big deal anyway.

FYI, DVDSpot just made an update so you can change how the title is sorted. The Custom Sort field is listed under the filter section.

I have to admit that when they first were showing the new 2.0 a while back I did not like it. But now that 2.0 is here I'm going to AT LEAST give it a try. After years of support I have shown them I'm not just going to login to my account look around and say "I hate it" and move on. And again I admit that after the collection mirgration it was a bit frustrating, but it's still a work in progress and changes can be made. Instead of jumping ship, oh I don't know maybe express what you don't like and try to see if changes can be made. Maybe a little feedback will go a long way, who knows??

Maybe their plan was to make the free sevice so terrible that you'd have to pay to get anything good! After seeing the new site, I believe it. But if you're willing to pay for it, then kudos to you. I'll just move to another free site, but it'll probably take me a week or so.

Yep, due to popular demand, Croy has implemented this new feature.

This is fantastic news! I'm really hoping that new additions keep coming in, because there are a lot of people like me out there - defectors from DVDAF - who are looking for a new home. And adding new features will make the transition easier.

Add me to the number who have dumped the awful DVDaf 2.0 for DVDSpot.

I have tried using the Custom Sort field, though, and it's not working for me. For example, I made Custom Sort Titles for 21 Grams (Twenty-one Grams) so it would be sorted with the Ts like I have it on my shelf and American Wedding (American Pie 3) so it would follow the other two films instead of being after American Psycho... but they haven't moved. Am I doing something wrong?

It is really just inconceivable to me that DVDAf forced everyone over to 2.0.

I know they had the Beta up for at least a year, and I checked it out occasionally, and just prayed they'd never go over to it. This move is something that could seriously destroy DVDAf.

And my favorite thing is the top right help button doesn't work.

I love DVDSpot. Can't even remember the name of that other crummy site I used to use to track my collection.

We'll see if when the thing is up and running you can tweak it a little, but I'm wondering what else is out there.

Another vote for DVDSpot.

I tried DVD Spot, but for every title they wanna know when and where you bought it, like I'm supposed to remember. I went with DVD Aficionado instead, but I'm not too happy with it either.
There is a option for Quick own, where you dont have to enter in all of that.

Okay.

This is a DVDspot question.

I have totally fallen behind in updating my spot account. I've added another 100-120 dvds since I last updated.

Whats the best way to update? Just take all the dvds..and start over? I'm a little overwhelmed.

On the left side there is a bar of how to "sort" your collection. On that, you scroll all the way down to the bottom and hit "Custom Sort", then press the link right nearby that says "Save View Preferences" and it should always show your collection using your custom sort.

Well, I think -- and I think a lot of people agree with this -- the problem is there's really nothing better about it. The layout is worse, the collections are sorted poorly, the new functions are useless and many of the old functions that we liked are gone. Basically if we were allowed to submit suggestions, they would probably be: go back to DVDaf 1.0. And I doubt they'd take that suggestion seriously.

Now that they've added the ability to custom sort, my love for DVDspot (as if it wasn't monumental already) has reached critical mass. I'm also thrilled to have already implemented some 50 changes to DVDspot.

Are you still experiencing this? http://www.dvdspot.com/list.php?memb...by=custom_sort

American Wedding and 21 Grams are located in their customized positions when viewed via that link. If you click in the '#, A-Z' links instead, they will still be located under their title rather than custom sort title though.

You don't need to do anything to the ones you've already entered, unless desired. To add the new purchases, either search for them individually and add or use the quick import function located at http://www.dvdspot.com/import.php

Now that I've imported my collection to DVDAF 2.0 (with no problems whatsoever, so kudos on that):

1. The flying menu button the left is pretty dumb. Seriously, that's just inane.
2. It sure is......gray. Not the easiest on the eyes. The site definitely needs more visual contrast.

I'm sure there will be a bunch of changes now that it's all live, but besides my above complaints, it seems to work okay.

Those are two of my biggest gripes as well. The others being not having links to my owned, wish-list, on-order at the top of my collection like before, and after using the link to visit imdb it changes the heading in the search box at the top of the page so when I go to look up the next title I have to switch it back to "title has."

I agree with others that this is more of a downgrade but I'll still give them time to see what changes they make after all the feedback they get.

Yeah I know, but when I do that it still shows the purchase date being whatever day I added it. I can go back and delete it, but to do that for every single DVD is ridiculous. It's very stupid and I don't want to have to mess with it.
