I used to use DVDAF and switched over to DVD Spot a little over a year ago... and I love it. I like the simple layout, the breakdown of stats, the ability to easily manage contributions. It's just a great overall site for collector's. I miss some of the old features Guzzlefish used to have and DVD Spot makes up for the majority of them. DVd AF's new site just sucks balls, plain and simple.

I may switch over to DVDSpot due to DVDAf's poor handling of their switchover to 2.0.

Anyway, in regards to 2.0 for now, does anyone know how to make comments on the DVDs. This stuff used to be easy...

because of this thread I logged in to dvdaf for the first time in a week or so. 2.0 is awful. I'm trying out dvdspot but I concur on the lack of image quality, not good. Also, adding by title you have drill down to see the studio, country, etc. Since I'm doing this by title and not UPC, this will take longer to port over.

Consider using the import option, if you're not already.. http://www.dvdspot.com/import.php

Should make it a little easier and quicker.

Is there anything that can be done about a DVD that's in the DVDSpot database with an invalid UPC? One of mine is listed with a 13 digit UPC. I tried to submit some other information for it, and it wouldn't even go through because of an invalid UPC error. I submitted it as no UPC and explained in the notes what was wrong and gave the proper UPC. The editor accepted everything else and completely ignored the UPC issue.

Can you export out of DVDAf?

I don't think DVDAf offers an export function do they? I know people mentioned a quick PDA lite version for printing and using that in the past but I don't see that active yet on 2.0.

If that is the case, probably the quickest method of doing so would be to copy and paste each individual title into notepad and then import that.

Thanks anyway.

I can probably type my collection faster than copying and pasting through DVDAf 2

The DVD is Mates of State - Two of Us (2004). http://dvdspot.com/dvd.php?d=1537827840

It's currently listed as UPC 6441100081906. The correct UPC is 644110008190. I thought a UPC couldn't even have 13 digits, so I have no idea how it ever got listed with that extra digit. A quick Google search will show that the current UPC is wrong and the one I gave is right.

Fixed. Thanks and apologies that it got overlooked previously.

lordwow,

it's not very clear at all but to add comments on dvdaf2, click on a title and select one-pager mode from thedrop down list. That lets you edit the title like in dvdaf1. Also, there is a printing mode, down the bottom right of the page there are options for "framed, printing and standard". framed appears to be the same as standard minus the sale prices etc being displayed and printin is the picture less mode which might be handy for exporting.

found those by sheer luck though.

Click on the title (picture) and go into "one pager mode", the custom info is at the bottom of the page. Click the edit button.

Thanks. Any reason why you changed the title to just "Two Of Us"? All the other music DVDs I've noticed on the site are listed in an artist - title format.

Based on the title of the film as it appears on the cover, back cover and IMDb (the portion that doesn't appear on the cover is listed as an alternate for searching).

First, let me say that I'm not trying to start an argument about this, because I don't really care that much. Mostly I'm just curious about how things work.

If we should go by the front cover and IMDB, then all three listings for The Kids Are Alright (the movie about The Who) are wrong. They list it as "The Who: The Kids Are Alright", but the cover and IMDB only say "The Kids Are Alright".

Is this kind of thing just left up to each editor to decide when they're working with the DVD, or do some of them just not pay attention to the way it should be done?

Not taken that way at all so no worries. We greatly appreciate feedback, questioning things to make everything as accurate as possible.

Apologies if this starts to derail the thread as I worry about it becoming a DVDSpot support thread too much.

The three currently listed in the database appear to each list 'The Who' on the cover. IMDb does list it by just 'The Kids Are Alright' though. In cases such as this the cover title is used.

That said, I'll post a thread for discussion on both this one and Two of Us for discussion.

Is this kind of thing just left up to each editor to decide when they're working with the DVD, or do some of them just not pay attention to the way it should be done?
Mistakes will always happen but all of the editors work using the same guidelines. Obviously, there are going to be cases when a couple of different things may be accurate, different sources used, etc. but everyone tries to be as accurate and comprehensive as possible and at the same time know that nothing is going to 100% infallible and are always open to trying to improve accuracy.

Contributors with an eye for detail and quality contributions are the driving force of any user contributed database so any time one takes the time to improve its accuracy is appreciated and paramount.

Thanks abintra.

You know, an official DVDSpot support thread on here would actually be great.

Thanks, I spent about 5 minutes looking the other day and said screw it.

In DVD Spot is there any easy way to mass edit DVDs? Namely I'd like to get rid of the purchased date as I just entered them all the past couple of days so they all say 6-10-2007 or 6-11-2007.

Not a big deal, but a bit annoying--though not enough to go through all 250 or so and delete it out individually.

Having been forced to migrate to a site that's not even functional and looks like ass, I am also moving my collection to DVDSpot like so many others. I've been on DVDAF for years, and am very disappointed with the changes.

I don't think so though I haven't explored the avenue fully. Hopefully one of the other editors that post here (abintra, fnordboy, divemaster, Spez) can answer.

With regards to the titles. Abintra pretty much explained it all. It should be how it is written on the case.

I think I figured out a way to mass edit the purchase date. I haven't tried it personally though, but from what I can tell this should work alright. The only "multiple edits" that can be done at the same time are adding / removing titles from a filter and removing titles from a collection.

If you exported your collection though, you should be able to remove the purchase date and then re-import it.
