Oh please have something. I'm pretty knowledgable on Zodiac but added extras will always be welcome.

For those of you wondering about the HD releases:

http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/sh..._This_July/646
Paramount plans to street the flick on both next-gen formats July 24, day-and-date with the standard-def DVD at a suggested list price of $39.95 for each. The studio has not yet revealed specs or supplement details for 'Zodiac,' but we'll keep you posted as further details are announced.

Paramount did the same thing recently with Flags of Our Fathers and Babel. I wonder if we'll get a 2-discer later in the year.

That does indeed suck. I will however double dip on this, as the movie is one of my favorites.

As much as I loved this movie, I'll wait for a double-dip. The extras on Fincher's deluxe DVDs are always fascinating and are among the only ones I'll ever bother watching. Not surprised at this, though, coming from Paramount.

This is a movie the screams for bonus material (what with the way Fincher documents so much of his work, and the subject matter), that I'm sure there's an uber-edition not too far down the pike (ala Panic Room).

I can wait for that, as I saw it in the theater (a pretty big one) and even my kick-ass HD-home-theater isn't going to match that presentation.

I loved this movie, but I'm not going to buy this release. Way to drop the ball, Paramount.

I loved this film. It was by far my favorite of 2007 so far. However, I will not support this release and I hope some of you don't either. I'm not sure what kind of message it will send if sales are poor, but somehow I hope a packed-to-the-gills SE is in the works.

To make matters worse, the HD versions have now slipped to a fall release.

Yeah, I'll wait for a better release... If one doesn't come (that would be sad), this will be cheap later on.

Goddamn. I really want to pick this up but I know the lack of bonus materials points to an obvious double dip. Depending on the price I might bite once it comes out.

Paramount has dissapointed me yet again..
First they f*ck my favorite film of last year out of a good DVD release (Perfume: The Story of a Murderer) when there were plenty of extras produced for that release and now they are doing the same to one of my favorite films of this year....I rarely buy new dvd releases because of this reason...
usually I wait till they are used at a good price but i wint even buy a used Zodiac knowing that they produced many extras....

Irritating about the lack of supplements, but aside from Fight Club all Fincher DVDs have started out pretty close to bare bones. I'm definitely gonna wait for the HD release, too. I rewatched this in a hotel room a month or so ago, and the HD quality looked pretty good (particularly in daytime scenes at the Chronicle). Hopefully the SE will come quickly.

Paramount has been treating Zodiac like a Pepsi executive being harassed at his new job at Coca-Cola: it's been downright awful how they've handled this, and I'm surprised Fincher is having them distribute his next movie as well. First it got screwed out of a late '06 release, and then came the graveyard-slot opening weekend in early March against Wild Hogs, which of course meant consumers made sure this would be stored away from their eyes. It's also sad that Zodiac and Black Snake Moan (also a Paramount film) both didn't do hot at all thanks to majorly bad release patterns, and they were by far two of the year's best movies.

This, however, is just the parmesan cheese on the baked ziti, giving the film an extras-free release tainted by ugly consumer-friendly artwork and a potential shot at falling into obscurity come awards season. If the studio is smart, the DVD will be postponed, the movie gets reissued in theaters in the fall, and it has a shot at well-deserved Oscars (it didn't work for Wonder Boys, but hey). I mean, Fincher is awards-ready for a nomination (and he got turned over for Se7en and Fight Club), but this was the movie that made him more than a postmodern knight of cinema, but a fully competent director who is one of the best working American filmmakers today. I'd also push to see Jake Gyllenhaal and Robert Downey Jr. get nominated

There's plenty of opportunities for an SE here. Documentaries on the real case, the many deleted scenes said to exist (I'm very curious about the pop music montage that was cut), and much more I'm sure. The only way this movie can get full justice at this point, I believe, is to license it to Criterion (Paramount is steadily starting ties with them, so it might be possible).

Relax, you guys. This almost guarantees an SE release, probably a la Flags of Our Fathers -- a 2-discer (at least) released to coincide with the HD releases.

Those douchebags should know that people aren't really gonna shell out money for this. Maybe they're just doing it for rental purposes.

Yeah, I'm totally waiting on this. Haven't bought FLAGS yet either, and hoping for a price drop.

Considering the time frame between when this hit theatres and it's DVD release, Paramount could have easily put together a nice set. I think the box office figures must have been a factor in making this a SE right away ($85M budget and grossing $33M in the US). This is a total rental for me. Does anyone actually plan to buy this barebones edition?

I plan on buying it, and will probably double-dip if and when a SE comes out with extras (deleted scenes and a doc about the real Zodiac) will be the selling points for me. I've never been interested in commentaries.

I'm disappointed but I don't think it's a disaster. The film flopped in theaters, and Paramount is just trying to make some of its money back -- even through rentals, if nobody buys it. I mean, we know Gyllenhaal recorded a commentary, so we are getting an SE eventually. Given that this was a box office failure, no matter whose fault it was, I would say getting a Special Edition at any point is enough to consider ourselves lucky...nobody is making you buy the barebones DVD. At least we all know not to buy this and it's not like Fox where they're so clearly trying to bilk everyone out of their hard-earned dollars for no reason (ala releasing single-disc editions despite the OBVIOUS fact that SEs are available and ready based on other regions, then double-and-triple-dipping the titles to slap on new covers and throw in movie tickets).

Fight Club was much more of a theatrical failure than Zodiac was and look how that turned out.

David Prior posted on HTF that there's a SE in the works and that the bare-bones SE will have the official SE announcement before the movie, sorta like what they did when "Fight Club" came out on VHS several weeks before the DVD and it had an ad for the features-packed DVD before the film started.

Since all of Fincher's movies get double dipped I'll wait on this. I just hope it doesn't take as long as Panic Room did. Paramount continues to prove to be the worst DVD releasing company.

"No extra material will be included."

No trailers? Disappointed.
