The new version in those screencaps looks too soft though.

There's not really any additional detail so I think it's just that the old disc was sharpened with edge enhancement, which the disc was known for having.

Look at the first 2 links though. The first one has so much edge enhancement that I can see it on my 15" laptop monitor. I don;t know about the rest of you but that amount of edge enhancement is more of a distraction than anything else. The 2nd link is more soft but it is alos more film like also. The first link has been enhanced so much it looks pixelated. It's a far imrpovement from the previous version just from the fact that they've removed the edge enhancement and dirt from the print.

Thanks for those. From the caps it looks like the new dvd is superior to the Criterion. The colours are very similar.

Yeah, I agree--only problem is the continued 1.66:1 vs. 1.85:1 crop...

HMV in Canada has it for $15 when you buy another title at $15, but I don't know if I'll go for it and risk getting a double of disc 1..

Alright, so i guess it's official that the Canadian edition of the movie has a major fuck up.

Is there anything we can do to make them aware of this problem? Do they even know?

It pisses me off because if this was a U.S thing it would of been rectified in 2 weeks. But since we're JUST Canada we'll probably get nothing done...

I REALLY want this edition dammit!

So i guess i have to not buy it this weekend hmm?

I have the trilogy set, and just bought the new set today, I honestly thought this scene took place at night when I originally saw it. The transfer is definately improved, but the best extras are on the second disc with the featurettes. My favorite is the villians of old detroit.

It does take place in the evening, because the following scene where RoboCop drives up to the OCP building and heads to underground parking clearly shows it's in the evening hours. Plus, all those people leaving work who watch him enter the building.

I guess the new transfer just makes things confusing!

I got mine at Wal-Mart this morning for $19.99. Both discs were right.

Anybody else have a bitch of a time getting the sticky label* off the case?

*Not sure of the correct term for the security sticker dealy.

I find it odd that they finally get a true SE for the first movie, with a steelbook, and the steelbook is GOLD. Wouldn't silver have made a lot more sense?

Is the unrated version in DTS, or is it only the theatrical cut?

The newer version deos seem brighter than it should be to me. I mean why turn on your headlights when it's still broad daylight?

I snagged this @ BB for $19.99 today. I'm planning on watching it tomorrow. I just briefly threw it in to verify that the extended cut does indeed have DTS and that it wasn't only relegated the to theatrical cut. Great looking set and a nice batch of bonus features.

Forgive me for not being sure after pretty much reading this whole thread, but...

I own the Criterion, and individual releases of 2 and (maybe) 3.

Any reason I need this?

I am pissed about the Canadian foul-up. With our luck, the studio will probably just initiate a mail-in system to get the proper second disc. The least they could do is not require consumers to mail in their "defective" disc 2 first. They should do what was done for the first Star Wars original trilogy boxset, and just mail out the corrected discs without requiring the old disc in exchange.
