Ringmaster 08-20-07 09:11 PM

I just received my copy today. It was well worth the wait.

TheJoker 08-20-07 09:15 PM

Well, if they do release this in October then I might as well wait and see.....only two months to wait and if they dont release on Blu-Ray then ill grab this set.

Giles 08-21-07 08:45 AM

October 9th is the tentative 'new' street date for the BluRay edition.

Jonno2006 08-21-07 09:15 AM

Can any Canadian confirm or deny that the second disc is the same as the first?

ReelWorld 08-21-07 10:26 AM

Confirmed. Disc 2 is the same. How the hell did they screw up so badly? I watched the "Extended" cut last night and thought I was suffering from memory loss or something since all the X-rated stuff was nowhere to be found! WTG MGM - you fucked up what coulda been one of the best releases of the year!

so wait no unrated cut - is that a mastering accident on MGM's part?

Yavin 08-21-07 10:29 AM

So I guess there is no point in me rushing out to buy this now ...

dullboy 08-21-07 10:35 AM

This foul-up is in Canada only, right?

ReelWorld 08-21-07 10:52 AM

Not sure if it's just Canada, but it does appear that some people are lucking out and getting the real deal - not the identical disc twice.

Yavin 08-21-07 10:54 AM

Goddamn, this is like X3: The Last Stand and Back to the Future all over again.

Ringmaster 08-21-07 11:09 AM

I live in Los Angeles and the copy I received from Amazon is fine. Both discs are what was promised respectively. Disc 1- Theatrical w/commentary, Disc 2- Director's Cut (Same as the Criterion and Trilogy Versions). The mix up must be an isolated incident to Canada.

ReelWorld 08-21-07 11:38 AM

Why do they always fuck with us Canucks? This coulda been one of the best releases of the year! For those who have the proper second disc - what's the runtime for the special features? The stuff on disc one aside from the Flesh + Steel bit are pretty much pointless. Hopefully MGM gets their heads out of their asses and fixes the issue we have with the discs up here. Also - are the US releases of the DVDs also manufactured up here in Canada?

Yavin 08-21-07 11:45 AM

Not likely. I think Cinram is probably the manufacturer of the Cdn discs. Looks like someone on the production line there screwed up royally.

LorenzoL 08-21-07 11:45 AM

I will be ordering this DVD online in order to avoid this problem.

indiephantom 08-21-07 11:47 AM

Well, the Canadian disc fuck-up answers the question, will I be buying this with a resounding NO! Guess I'll just stick with my old CC laserdisc for now. :)

pbishop69 08-21-07 11:58 AM

Do the screwed up disc 2's say disc 1 on them or disc 2?

Tenacious D 08-21-07 12:05 PM

I live in the USA and just purchased this from Best Buy. They had 20+ copies and almost all of them sounded like they had floaters inside. I chose one that didn't sound like it had a floater, but my disc 1 was loose when I opened the steelbook. Luckily, it doesn't look like there's any damage, but I just wanted to warn you guys to check for floaters before you buy. It rang up 17.99 instead of 19.99 at my BB too. I didn't think it was on sale, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Giles 08-21-07 12:10 PM

I really don't understand the packaging - the back makes no mention there is both cuts of the film - it just states 'unrated'

Jonno2006 08-21-07 12:13 PM

Well i hope they do like the Superman tin set last year and offer us to replace the discs!

I just hope MGM at leasts acknowledges this problem soon. I know we don't count much in the grand DVD sales scheme but i think Canada buys alot of DVDs!

ReelWorld 08-21-07 12:14 PM

Disc 1 is Theatrical R rated
Disc 2 is Unrated or X Rated Cut

In Canada, both discs are Disc 1 with different artwork. Whoever screwed this up on the creation end need to be fired...

I'm so glad I rented this with one of my free rents from work instead of buying it!!

Indeed we do, they’ll just have to head over to my DVD Spending for proof. It’s fu*king cold in the winter & it’s too hot for us canucks in the summer so It’s DVDs all year round.

So, nateman241, I take it you also ended up with two disc 1's (even though one had the disc 2 label)?

that's so weird, eventhough i already had it i just picked one up at BB to look and sure enough it was a floater. another i picked up was fine, but weird it would happen in two different locations.

Johnny Zhivago 08-21-07 02:32 PM

Great... I have this on order from CH. Guess I'll pray for no floaters...

Scott - Not that weird, it could be a bad packaging design... It's certainly happened before. The #'d Cannibal Holocaust release is a good example, it seems like almost everyone got a floater when that one came out. IIRC, the 3 disc King Kong that was on sale at BB a few weeks back had the same issue.

Panda Phil 08-21-07 02:33 PM

No floater in my BB copy.

dullboy 08-21-07 03:34 PM

Funny, every time I hear that term "floater", I think of a gross little piece of fecal matter hanging out in your dvd case.

So, is everyone's Robocop ringing up $17.99 at Best Buy?

TheJoker 08-21-07 03:35 PM

Anyone know of any reviews or screen caps for this?

darmok 08-21-07 03:47 PM

sunova...it was $19.99 at my BB here in NYC...

TylerDurden_73 08-21-07 04:08 PM

No floater in mine. Got it at best buy

I can post screencaps of the release if you want - but not from the unrated cut (at least not this - but the Criterion edition)

Mr. Cinema 08-21-07 04:26 PM

Anyone know if Target is carrying this?

i think someone said in Bargains that they didn't have it or "Serenity". might hold true nationally. i kinda find "Serenity" hard to believe as they've had most the re-releases/extended like "King Kong", but i haven't checked mine so it could be ymmv.

Yeah if you have the time post the criterion vs. steelbook. I can do Trilogy vs. Steelbook if you want.

uncle-frank 08-21-07 04:56 PM

just picked it up at best buy, ive been waiting for this for a while now.

Darth Maher 08-21-07 05:00 PM

My Best Buy didn't have it. They had a $19.99 tag though advertising a movie that wasn't even on the shelf. Tisk, tisk.

jaded25 08-21-07 05:07 PM

My Best Buy had only about 4 or 5 left and the target next to the best buy didn't have any.

C_Fletch 08-21-07 05:45 PM

Picked min up at the Hamilton Place Best Buy in Chattanooga, TN at the price of 19.99

That's got to be the worst price I've had the displeasure of paying. But considering I've made 100's from the Criterion release I am not to worried.

They had several copies left and it appeared that I was the first to ask for it as well as the first one to take one. And that was at 5:30PM. I tried FYE in the mall first but they did not get any copies in. I also called Circuit City and they were clueless like usual. I don't know why I even bother with them.

captainjoe 08-21-07 05:51 PM

Just got mine at Best Buy in Alberta canada and it has a screwed up 2nd disc. I'm going to return it and order from Amazon.com but not before posting captures and watching the theatrical cut.

Nick Martin 08-21-07 06:08 PM

I'm relieved and concerned that I was far from the only one to be burned by this Canadian foul-up when I got it last week twice.

captainjoe 08-21-07 06:41 PM

Top: R1 Trilogy

This tells us for sure that the new disc has been properly colour corrected and restored. The colour matches the approved transfer on the Criterion. PLUS: Look at that aweful contrast boosting and clipping on the Trilogy disc.
