What is the extended cut?

I mean, is it going to be the same as the Criterion cut or a new version all together?

I'm sure it's the same cut from the MGM discs. I can't imagine Fox would go to the trouble to create a new version.

OCP is going bankrupt without any evil corporate bigwig, RoboCop ain't Peter Weller, a techie kid who can deactivate an ED-209 even though her family is in poverty, robot ninjas being manufactured by OCP, flying RoboCop...it takes what was once a satirical bloodbath intended for adults and boils it down to the consistency of a bad Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles episode. One of the worst movies EVER IMO.
"Robocop 3" is the single biggest reason I never bothered with the trilogy. I was like 14 when I saw this and even then I was like "why did they tone down all the violence?"

I hate "Robocop 3" more than "Alien 3", "Alien Resurrection" and "Godzilla (1998)" combined.

OT, but...awesome.

The second one gets a little choppier in the editing but it's still sweet.

same here, I don't see a reason to triple dip on this... there doesn't seem to be anything exclusive to this version (right?)

It helps that I haven't seen Part 2 in 17 years and have never seen part 3. Thus, all this footage of Robocop is brand new to me!

They also made a series of Canadian movies. I don't remember what they're called but I remember seeing them in the video store and expecting them to be really bad. Some of the footage may be from those, I don't know RoboCop well enough to identify every single shot.

It was a miniseries called "RoboCop: Prime Directives", and it was the BIGGEST PILE of dogshit to ever be associated with RoboCop. Just the worst...They weren't B-movies, they were worse than Z-movies. Just thinking of them brings back some very bad memories.

Makes me wish I was a bigger fan of the franchise. Dig the first and second films, but not in any big way. Haven't seen the third. Funny feeling to be excited about something you're not really excited about. But, of course, the steelbook plays a large role in that.

Main question I have, though: Is Paul Verhoeven's preferred aspect ratio of 1.66:1 going to be used, or will it be the same 1.85:1 transfer from the 3-disc RoboCop Trilogy set? Probably the latter, but I always wonder if a director's preferences are honored in cases like this.

There haven't been any reports about the ratio yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's exactly the same transfer (with the same 1.85:1 ratio) as the MGM Trilogy version for the unrated cut, and the barebones MGM version for the R rated cut.

I'll say this much: there are worse ways to spend a Saturday night. It certainly wasn't close to the best of what Robocop had to offer, but it had some nice moments.

It's pretty bad when even robot ninjas couldn't make this movie worthwhile.

The only good thing about RoboCop 3 was the "I'll buy that for a dollar" guy still being included.

And with that info you still want to see it?

I have never seen 3 and now I have absolutely no interest. I held off on getting the boxset because of the AR issue and because I didn't want either 2 or 3.
I also think this will be the same 1.85:1 transfer that is in the current boxset. Not sure if I will get this yet, but it's good to know. Thanks for posting OP.

Robocop 3 had a fantastic story, with a ton of potential for the script. The execution was all wrong.

Amazon.com has a listing for the Blu-Ray, I wonder when that'll come out?

What they should do is completely remaster both cuts from the ground up with new color corrections and dirt removal. At least present the "Director's Cut" in 1.66:1. And for Christ's sake please do not pump up the contrast. I just rewatched it yesterday and the skies are completely whited-out in the finale and there are so many details lost.

http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDCompare3/robocop.htm

Capture 3 really shows how bad it is, many of the wires and poles are completely clipped out.

My vote for understatement of the century.

I just realized the guy in the first Robocop that gets the toxic waste all over him is Graem from 24
