From what I read he was supposed to (he was in the script I read) as a commentator, as Clubber Lang, but he was too busy with his show "I Pity the Fool" and was unable to.

I remember there was supposed to be a ending that had Rocky dying.

It was considered by Stallone early on in the script process, but he felt ROCKY V was so depressing, there was no way he was going to kill off Rocky in Part 6. So it was never seriously under consideration for Part 6, although it was for Part 5.

I read in PREMIERE magazine back in 1990 when they had a ROCKY V making-of, Stallone mentioned it was the UNITED ARTISTS execs who balked at killing off one of their most lucrative heroes when they read the ROCKY V treatment.

He was supposed to die in Adrian's arms after the Tommy Gunn fight.

I have only seen the original Rocky. I love the movie. I have read good things about Rocky Balboa. Would it be okay for someone like myself who has only seen the original, to dive into Rocky Balboa? I have not a clue what happens in any of the other films. Would I not get a lot in this film because of that?

Yes, you can do that jump. I vaguely remember a Stallone interview where he specifically said this was possibole and by design.

I apologize if this has been asked before, but I was thinking about buying the new Rocky special edition DVD, but was hesitant wondering if there is gonna be a box set with all of the Rocky films and new DVD versions of the sequels.

I don't believe there has been an announcement on this, but has any word leaked out on the possibility of this in the near future?

A new Rocky box set is unlikely considering Rocky Balboa is co-financed by Sony and the DVD is released by them as well. All the other Rocky pictures are released through MGM/FOX.

Stallone has mentioned wanting to do new special editions of Rocky II-V. But, that's going to take lots of time and since he's busy filming John Rambo, I don't forsee him going back and revisiting those movies anytime soon. I think if we're lucky, Stallone and FOX could probably complete 2 new special editions in 1 year.

Doesn't Sony own MGM now?

Yeah but they sold the MGM video catalog to Fox. They retain the rights to MGM properties that they released after the MGM buyout like "Casino Royale" and "Rocky Balboa" but everything before that belongs to Fox now.

So yeah, full-series Bond and Rocky box sets are impossible due to the rights situation.

Not impossible. Companies in the past have banded together for releases of collection sets before. Well, at least Miramax has.

But thanks for the replies, as now I'll just go ahead and get the Rocky special edition release.
