Hard to believe MGM/UA wouldn't let Stallone make the movie for almost 10 years. If MGM hadn't been sold to Sony, "Rocky Balboa" probably would have NEVER happened.

I was hoping they would've done something with the other movies for when this one came out.
I bought the new release of the first movie back in December.
Are the discs out of II, III, IV and V worth getting at all?
If I buy RBalboa, it's gonna look weird - having the first, and the last, and nothing inbetween.

I think I'd appreciate it more now. I haven't seen V for a long time, but based on what I remember about it, I think it's more of a "character study" movie, like the first and Rocky Balboa, than "popcorn movies" like III and IV.
I remember very much not liking V because it was so different from the Rocky I was used to. The original came too early for me, and I probably started with II.

The biggest Oscar "travesty" of all time is "Star Wars" not getting Best Pictures, but "Annie Hall" does get the award. How many people remember Annie now? I loved Annie Hall, it is a very good movie, but Star Wars is a GREAT movie.

Sorry, but "Rocky" KNOCKED out all the other movies that year. Rocky is one of the few movies that won the award, and everyone still knows and loves after all these years.

picked this up today and watched the deleted scenes. Anyone notice during the "breakfast" scene when Rocky goes into Paulies room and looks at the picture of paulie and apollo that apollo's face is blurred out? Anyone know why?

Got lucky and found it for under $15 at WalMart.
This was an excellent movie. Seemed like a bizarre idea at first - another Rocky movie - but the damn thing works.
Way to go, Sly!

I'm sure the more likely scenario is that MGM didn't want to hunt him down and get his approval to use his likeness for a DVD supplement.
If you watch the "Inside Look" featurettes on early "Seinfeld" seasons you'll notice that one of the interview participants has a TV Guide cover framed in his office and it's blurred out. In other interviews obviously conducted at the same time that appear on subsequent releases the TV Guide cover is unblurred.
It's pretty obvious that TV Guide wasn't opposed to having their cover visible in the DVD content but that Sony didn't actually get their permission until later.

Anyone having problems with this disc? My copy worked fine at first, then when I took it to another player, it wouldn't work, and now it doesn't work on any of my 4 players. And of course I crumpled up the receipt and pitched it!

That's really strange that Weathers wouldn't allow his likeness to be used on Rocky Balboa. Are you guys just making an assumption? Maybe that's how Stallone kept the budget of this movie small because he didn't want to give Weathers a cut or something.
Yet, I watched some of the new behind the scenes documentary on Rocky I and he seemed very pleasant with some very fond memories of working on the movies.
