You have to give Married With Children some slack because they really tried to get the music rights but after they heard how much it was to retain the original theme song, they had no choice but to change the theme song

If they couldn't even secure the rights to that, then I am completely convinced the people involved in the music industry are $$$$$$$$$ greedy ba$tards.

It just does not make sense to me that they demand so much for the individual songs that it means the show never gets released with them. The end result is the show gets unreleased, or released with so many cuts and edits that it pisses fans off, and the people who made the music still didn't make a dime off of it. Why can't they just lower the price asking for the songs and be happy they are getting any money off the show? It's not as if Pink Floyd, for example, is crying for money.

I don't know if I will get WKRP now or not. Do current shows negotiate a deal in advance to include the music in the eventual DVD because of situations like WKRP?

To replace it with something generic is a real shame. Much like the furnishings and everything else about Jennifer's apartment, that doorbell song was there for a specific reason and directly added to the humor of each scene in which it was used. For the song to not be there will render various cast reactions to Jennifer's doorbell as nonsensical.

I will most definitely not be buying this crap official release, despite this being one of my favorite shows ever. But I think I will be getting it on DVD soon.

As others have said, this has turned into a NO SALE. A couple songs is one thing but this is nuts.

And being a Pink Floyd fan, the "Dogs" scene is a must-have.

It seems the Pink Floyd "Dogs" scene is the first, if not second, scene that came to mind when people started to discuss music changes on this show. The other would inevitably be the first song Johnny Fever chose to play on air. To change those songs, to not go the extra mile to secure them.....I just don't understand why the studio didn't stick to their guns that this was a series that would NEVER see the light of day on DVD.

I swore off buying bootlegs, but I am really contemplating that decision now.

I really think the time to start flooding Fox's phone lines to complain is NOW.

Our phone calls got them to decide to put the MASH bonus material from the series set out as a separate release, so we gotta let our voices be heard. If we just refuse to buy the set and they see poor sales, they need to know WHY. I will be sure to let them know I would pay more for the season set with the original music and original broadcast cuts.

yea i probally should because i did hear they tried pretty hard at getting 'Love & Marriage' but frank sinatra or his people were being a bunch of bitches when it came to the $ they wanted for it.

To be honest, I didn't get too uspet about this either, because I rarely watch the opening credits on DVDs; I tried with MASH, but by Season 4, I just started skipping straight to the actual episode.

But when music is part of the narrative, and its changed, I do get upset.

I emailed and found they are the syndicated cuts with original music intact. Not sure if the full length original airings will be available anywhere besides the official release.

It's a business decision by FOX. Either replace the music, sell the DVDs for $30 a pop and make a profit, or keep the music, have to sell the DVDs for $150 a pop and not make a profit (since only die-hard fans are going to fork over that kind of coin).

In cases like this, however, I do wish studios would give consumers an option and release TWO versions - the cheap, edited one and the expensive non-edited one - but again, it's an issue of the studio not making a profit after they pay for all the music rights.

So blame the music industry...don't blame (or don't put all the blame, at least) FOX.

The official release doesn't contain ALL of the original airings...at least two of the episodes are the syndicated versions, while others have footage cut out of them - again, mainly because of the music.

You needed convincing of this? Really? After the record companies have been trying to arrest teenagers for downloading music off the internet?

Illegal downloading to licensed music for a TV show are two different beasts. While I do see greed in fining their customers for downloading music (a practice I do not agree with...everybody knows you go after the pushers, not the patsies) the negotiations for TV shows takes it to a whole new level of asinine greed. To fine somebody for doing something illegal is one thing, but this feels like they are trying to penalize the studios and fans for wanting the original music in the programs.

In this case, it was the composers' estates, not Sinatra's, which wanted a fortune for the music rights.

Ugh, to bad, Pink Floyd - Dogs, at it's in the famous Turkey episode! Did Fox try at all to get the music rights?

And this is the first season, I wonder if they will release season two or just kill this dvd series? Sigh.

Well, this goes on my "Not to Buy" list.

I just hope they keep the Red Wigglers jingle...they're the Cadillac of worms..wee wee.
