Can anyone tell me the difference in the extras between the two versions? Thanks!

I think the extras are the same but I'll let ya know.

When I lived in NYC, this was ALWAYS the case: sold out on new release day. It didn't matter how popular (or unpopular) the release was, they never ordered enough to meet the demand of a NYC population. I stopped going to BB until I moved to Boston.

I checked FS here in Canada and they had a bunch of the steelbook 2 DVDs there, but on the back there was the dreaded bilingual packaging. However, it was just a sheet glued on. For you guys in the US that got the set from Best Buy, is there anything on the back of the steelcase itself, or do you have a glued on piece of paper as well? If so, what is on it?

I'm imagining that the steelbook at Best Buy US will be similar to the one in Canada. I will go later on to my nearby Best Buy when the roads improve to check it out.

Thanks for letting us know about the Future Shop version steelbook being the 2 disc.

oddly enough, wal mart had it

I grabbed a second steelbook from BB yesterday.

PM me if you are truly in need (as opposed to truly lazy), and you can have it for my cost.

movieking 02-14-07 09:14 AM

I can't quote but in response to LorenzoL, I would assume that the steelcases would be the same as well, with the exception of the bilingual sheet being glued on to the back of the case, so I am curious about if there is anything on the back, or if there is a english only version of what the glued on sheet has. I picked up the HD one regardless, but I might be tempted if I knew what was on the back on the steelcase :)

Can anyone comment?

There's just a piece of paper glued on the back that gives details about the movie and the special features, which is all in English. When you take it off, the back looks like this:

Thanks bjh_18! Exactly what I wanted to know

Well Infernal Affairs was the source material for the Departed afterall. Wouldn't it be interesting to see the similarities and differences? Also the IA trilogy is considered some of HK's best movies so i would say get it! But why would you want dub when the original language with subtitles is available? lol.

Bought the steel book at Future Shop and its damn nice. Now on the lookout for the IA boxset myself...

bookcase3 02-14-07 11:44 AM

My local Best Buy was completely sold out of ALL versions of The Deparated when I went today. I overheard some very unhappy customers. Luckily I bought my copy yesterday.

tylergfoster 02-14-07 12:06 PM

Did anyone find out if the steelbooks for Canada are identical or not?

bryanr 02-14-07 12:07 PM

Infernal Affairs is not available at the Walmarts near me (Piscataway, North Brunswick, Woodbridge, NJ). I ordered it from J&R but even they never got it in yet.

slop101 02-14-07 01:53 PM

As of noon today, my BB still had over 50 copies of the steelbook on the floor - of course they had more than 200 yesterday, but still, it shouldn't be too hard to find, as while it is limited, they have more on the way after they deplete their initial stock.

Toy-Gun 02-14-07 02:42 PM

I went with the steel case. Looks GOOD.

Big Worms 02-14-07 03:08 PM

Got mine during lunch. Tons of them at my BB. Wish I could say the same about the HD-DVD version. They never received any copies of them.

jmj713 02-14-07 03:24 PM

Watched this last night. What a great film. It'll be a travesty if this doesn't win Best Picture. I didn't even notice that over two hours have passed. Same feeling as back when I saw it in the theater. The steelbook case is great, and has a nice and smooth feel to its surface (not metallic, not sure what, kinda plastic). Too bad the glued back paper can't fit inside the case, so I threw it away. I usually preserve them, whenever possible.

PJsig08 02-14-07 04:42 PM

I felt the same way...I usually get bored/uneasy at some point in the theater, but not for this one. Two hours went by so fast.

i think it's called 'steelbook' for a reason. ;)

all i did was trim the back specs and it fits inside perfectly and good that it lists the extras and such.

fumanstan 02-14-07 05:02 PM

I went with the Steelbook here too. Great looking case. All the Targets I went to were out of their special editions.

dvd_luver 02-14-07 05:38 PM

If anybody from Canada has the free time and free will to post pics of the Futureshop Steelbook from Canada that would be nice, just to compare it with the Best Buy Steelbook. I want to check it out!

TheMovieman 02-14-07 05:44 PM

Yeah, like the steelbook case and BB was already down to maybe 20 or so after having a stand full of 'em.

BTW, will these be like the Boondock Saints steelbook? I don't think it was a BB exclusive, but I did notice that the Special Edition is now encased in the standard two-disc single array case (with a slipcover).

auto 02-14-07 05:45 PM

After reading this thread, I started to worry that my BB would be out before I got there today at lunchtime. Sure enough, when I arrived they only had two copies left. Thought about buying the other to sell on eBay before it dawned on me what a douche bag move that would be.

Glad I picked it up there. The case is really nice.

Yeah, eventually the steelbook will not be produced and then they'll just carry the standard 2-disc set. I think the sticker on the steelbook cover mentions "limited edition" or something to that affect.
