I'm leaving in about 45 minutes to go get it, so we'll find out then!

Went to get it, and absolutely nothing special about it. I didn't buy it.

Well I'm buying the Unrated for the content, not for the fleshy-ish cover. Can't wait to see this movie again. I know most people hate these TCM remakes but I actually dig them.

I actually quite enjoyed the brutality of this movie and was very entertained, I actually went to a showing with nobody else besides my friend and I in the theatre. I think I am going to pass on the dvd because I'm not sure how much replay it'd get.

I wasn't buying it for the cover either. I usually hold off on a DVD until it drops to $10 unless it has something special that I don't want to disappear over time (i.e. flesh slipcover). There was nothing special that I have to worry about, so I passed until it goes on sale.

Saw this the other day and was surprised that it didn't suck.

I did watch the unrated version, and I can honestly say it was one of the goriest mainstream horror movies I've ever seen.

Yeah, that's how I was expecting it to feel also. Well, I passed on it today and opted to pick up Employee of the Month w/ the bonus disc instead, but now I'm sitting here thinking about TCM too much, so I'll probably just go get it...

Snowed in today, so wasn't able to get out. But reading here, I'm getting the impression that the "fleshy" slipcover that was promoted when this was announced isn't what was hyped. What is it, just standard cardboard? Nothing unique about it at all?

It's...smoother. Like....as if you're rubbing half-dried clay. I'm sorry...it's really hard to explain. At first it didn't feel fleshy at all, but the more I was playing with it, the more I realized they really were trying to make it feel like skin.

Hmmmmm. Thanks, Sabrett. I never saw the movie (but read a lot of opinions) and have been debating a blind buy.

It wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing, either. I saw it in the theater, and there was a lot of gore. The story itself was pretty good...but I know I bought it mostly because I'm a completist and it went with my TCM collection.

I feel that the Hills Have Eyes remake went farther, or at least portayed it's violence with more impact. With TCM: The Beginning it just left me with an uninterested feeling. Sure they're showing a lot of violence, but so what? Maybe i'm becoming desensetized to it all. Nothing in the film, violence wise, really shocked me or made me think "wow, that's the most violent thing ever!" It didn't help that I really didn't care for the movie. If you're hesitating buying this, just know this: It's basically an exact retelling of the 2003 remake, right down to where the lead character ends up at the films conclusion.
Spoiler:
On the special features, Michael Bay and the creators tell us that this an origin story, and they wanted us to learn how "old monty" loses his legs, and how Sherrif Hoyt loses his teeth...Um...Who cares about that?

They're not showing anything new. They're just explaining stuff that they showed in the last film, and frankly, it's not stuff that needs any further explaining. It seems like everything has to be over-explained these days (and sadly, the new Halloween remake looks like it's going down that path as well). I'd say my biggest gripe is that the movie is all about explaining the origins of this "remake" family in TCM universe. The only problem: I don't care about this family. They're not interesting to me and I couldn't care less why they are the way they are. Also, I didn't buy the explanation. One day they're fine, then for dinner one night they turn into cannibals and become hardcore murderers who slaughter tons of innocent people? Give me a break.

Well, let me chime in by agreeing that the "flesh-like" packaging for TCM: TB is the non-event of the year (yes, yes, we're only two weeks into the year; work with me, people )...

personally, my reaction to the violence was more of a 'wow, that got passed the MPAA' notably
Spoiler:
the guy getting chainsawed into his body and hoisted into the air

from what I have read, there is even more gore and a overhead shot restored for the unrated cut of the film.

picked this one up at wal-mart today the unrated version's cover is alright but nothing special (it was kind of disapointing).
i still think the blood from the remake of the hills have eyes dvd is the best slipcover.
going to watch this movie on friday nite.

I bought it yesterday. I'm a big fan of the 1974 original and not such a fan of the 2003 remake, but this film impressed me. Any horror movie that leaves me tense is a good horror film.

I will say this for it though the DTS mix rocked!! Too bad the rest of the movie didn't. Small nit pick here, if you are going to say that it is 1969, at least play the right music from that era, they blasted Free's All Right Now that song came out in the mid 70's. Also the guy who got his foot caught in the bear trap, come on he just sits there? Ummm those traps do open back up again when you release the lever.

I thought the remake was better, but did notice that they were basically trying to be the begining for the remake.

Blind buy for me and I loved it! Great addition to the franchise and the gore was damn cool! I hope they continue with this franchise!
