I really like the idea of the reprints of the Marvel adaptations. I have an old beat-up version of Star Wars, a worn copy of ESB in the paperback version, and can't find my ROTJ copy.

For the right price, I might consider this dammit.

Cameron 08-26-06 12:15 PM

best buy gets my money

TheKobra 08-26-06 12:19 PM

The Best Buy Tin set for $87.00 is not worth it IMO. I refuse to rebuy the trilogy again until it is released on HD-DVD. I have pruchased the trilogy 3 times now (VHS, Dif LS set) and DVD. HD-DVD or nothing going forward.

ReduxGuy 08-26-06 03:40 PM

I ain't payin 87 bucks!!!

Slowpc 08-26-06 03:48 PM

That is 87 can. I thought i saw around a 50-60 dollar price....

theguyoverthere 08-26-06 03:53 PM

C$87.99 = US$8.20 if I used xe.com accurately...

/just kidding...
//it's really $79.27
///slashies!

Cameron 08-26-06 03:58 PM

thats msrp....factor in this will have a sale price off 80 us...all the stand alone is 90 msrp us

Star Wars Holiday Special!

vegasbaby 08-26-06 09:44 PM

Any difference between disc 1 of this set and disc 1 of the trilogy set ?

Cameron 08-26-06 11:31 PM

supposed to be same disc...same cut, same commentary

Mike Adams 08-27-06 11:11 AM

Actually, my comment about being "done" meant that I was done ranting, not that I'm done buying the films. It's funny, though -- I really thought I could get rid of my SE bootlegs when the official DVDs finally came out, but of course there were more changes to the films. Looks like I'll even have to hang on to my 2004 set, because in the big boxed set of both trilogies, there are reportedly going to be even MORE changes to the films! That's fine by me, though. I'm actually kind of nostalgic for the SEs now, possibly since I actually saw them in the theater and it was all still new then since it was the first time in many years they had been re-released. I welcome more changes though, because I enjoy seeing the story augmented and references being made back and forth between trilogies. Of course given the awful new dialogue in ESB between the Emperor and Vader, the new changes may not necessarily improve the films, at least in my eyes. Seeing Hayden Christensen at the end of ROTJ sure as hell didn't. :grumble:

It's definitely nice to have actual official DVDs of the films as they first appeared in theaters -- that's at least one set of bootlegs I can dispense with. Maybe we'll get a set of Special Edition DVDs containing the films as they were in 1997, but I'm not holding my breath. I think I'm gonna find some multi-disc cases and put all the different versions of each film together. I wouldn't normally do that, but as crappy as the cover art has been for these latest releases, I have no problem parting with the original art. Oops... just opened another can of worms there, didn't I? ;)

Mike Adams 08-27-06 11:27 AM

I'll definitely give the BB tin a look, but I'm not big on tin boxes. Just depends on who's got the best price, really. Given that the "graphic novels" will probably be extra-flimsy DVD-sized comics, I doubt I'd be missing much if I passed on WAL-MART's bonus offer, especially since my ESB original is in really good shape, and that's the only one I'd really want. Still, if all three at WAL-MART are less than the tin at BEST BUY, it'll probably be WAL-MART.

<gasp> You mean someone on this forum is actually willing to DRIVE to a RETAIL store??? ;)

RickWJ324 08-27-06 03:26 PM

SW Exclusives??

Is it confirmed that Best Buy is doing a collector's tin?? I haven't seen any pics yet, nor do I see it offered on their website. Besides the comics at Walmart, are there any other exclusives that have been named yet?

Snowmaker 08-27-06 04:56 PM

Tin schmin.

I want to spend as little as possible on the O-OT disks.

ShinMusashi44 08-28-06 05:00 AM

Does Canada best buy site ship to USA?

Brooklyn 08-29-06 11:26 PM

Yes... it's in the recently posted ad in the Bargains forum.

To me, they look to be about the size of baseball cards.

Speaking of which, you get a Han Vs. Greedo card when you order from the Star Wars website.

rexinnih 08-30-06 09:47 AM

Well, that tin sure looks nice.

digitalfreaknyc 08-30-06 11:00 AM

<i>Mod note: :crap: removed</i>

ceeece 08-30-06 11:25 AM

I'm not counting on the tin to reach the U.S. We never get the cool stuff even though we are the ones making these movies.

pagansoul 08-30-06 12:18 PM

None of that extra stuff for me, just give me the movies. I'll have the cover art remade into ThinPak cases anyway.

tonymontana313 08-30-06 12:49 PM

I think the only way I'd buy the OT trilogy is if a retailer has exclusive bonus dvd content.

That was Future Shop not Best Buy Canada that had the tin package for V for Vendetta. They are owned by Best Buy but are run as a different store (independent from Best Buy) here in Canada.

Cameron 08-30-06 07:57 PM

DocBrass 08-30-06 11:41 PM

ooh...I might have to go to WalMart. I've got a few of these comics. This might be similar to the V for Vendetta/DC mini-graphic novel.

GuruTwo 08-30-06 11:53 PM

I think those are gonna be full-sized comics based on how small the DVD cover art is on those packages.

ceeece 09-01-06 05:35 AM

I'll be danged!! The U.S. gets the tin.... but at what cost? GEEZ!

Wow! The tin may be nice and all but I'm not paying $40 more for a metal box.
