If they did that, than certain sets wouldnt sell. If you just wanted connery, then you could buy vol 1. If you only like recent movies you would buy vol 4. If you wanted moore, than you'd get vol 3(4 out of 5 are moore). And vol 2 would probably be the worst selling of all. It would have the one with the worst bond(though possibly the best movie), the worst connery movie, the first two moore ones which were some of the worst, and then perhaps the best moore movie.

By mixing up the most popular and splitting the actors movies, it makes you buy them all even if you were only fond of a certain era/actor.

I am definitely passing on this set and will not rebuy the Bond series until I move to HD-DVD/Blue-Ray. The last set is enough to keep me happy until moving to the next level.

I can see their point but it's still annoying that other regions are getting cool complete "box sets" but we have to wait on a staggered release schedule.

DDD has dropped their price on Volumes 1 & 2 to $58.39 which should make them $46.71 during the anticipated 20% off sale.

Same here. The original OOP box sets were expensive enough as it is, and I'm having a difficult time justifying upgrading SD-DVD's at this point.

I am not sure about getting these sets in SD either. The only Bond films I have are DAD and TWINE, but I've seen all the others about a million times, who hasn't? These may end up being my first purchases on HD, about 2 years from now when it all pans out and I actually buy a player.
If these were released last year or earlier like they should have been, I probably would have bought them no questions asked.

If these were released as individual releases, I'd buy the few I like the best. As it is, though, I'll just stick with the ones I have.

I had sold all three of my Bond sets earlier in the year in anticipation of the new releases, but based on the reviews I've read from region 2, these new SD versions don't seem to be the best that they could do, especially with the post-Connerys. It's made all the worse by the fact that we R1ers aren't given a stylish complete box set. As impractical as that attache case may be for storage, I still want it!

That being said, I'll wait to read some reviews of the R1 release to see if the image and audio problems from the R2 release have been fixed. Even then, I may only buy one set, if any. I've waited this long; I think I can wait a bit longer for the eventual HD release...perhaps in an attache case?

I got the first 2 collections this morning. The come with 2-disc slimcases with seperate booklets in a box. Overall it's a little smaller then the Die Hard trilogy box.
I'll post pics later if anyone is interested?

No, I like them too. Those are the first ones I saw in the theater, so my initial impressions of what Bond is were formed by Roger Moore's portrayal. Moore's first two Bonds, which I didn't see in the theater, are my least favorite.

When I was a kid, Roger Moore was James Bond. So, those are the ones I like the best. I like Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan, Timothy Dalton, and even the one with George Lazenby, but just not as much as Sir Roger. That's probably blasphemy to many, but too bad.

Exactly the way I feel. We must be about the same age. I'm 32. How about you?

Before I had acquired Dr. No from one of the box sets, I had the 1997 MGM dvd. It came in a snapper case like the old WB titles and didn't have any features. That's the only one I've come across, and probably should have kept it as a 007 dvd artifact. Oh well.

Does both sides/spines on the box list the movies inside? Seeing these out of order on the shelf will do nothing but annoy me.

Whatever MGM/Fox executive ass-hat it was that decided to stick these movies together in such a random order (or the popular ones mixed with less popular ones), needs to a good cock-punching as any other option would've been preferable:
- sets split up chronologically
- sets split up by actor
- one big set for all of them
- individual releases
Though I don't mind the slim-case/packaging, they pretty much went with the worst possible way of grouping the movies together.
Assholes!

i think i'm just going to hold off until the casino royale disc hits / or they list them as OOP. I'll hope for a complete set when it arrives, and if not just buy all 4 sets then

i don't think it will cost me any more with internet sales the way they have been

Cannot remember for def, I don't see why not. Each spine is flat and I cannot see why not. I'm at work at the moment and cannot check. Will post details when I get home.

Though I don't mind the slim-case/packaging, they pretty much went with the worst possible way of grouping the movies together.
After selling all 20 of the SE Bond DVDs, I've come up with 11 or so that I'd like to repurchase in the Ultimate Edition. With the current grouping I can get 9 of those in just 2 of the sets (Volumes 3 & 4). The current grouping also gives me a sampling of 4 different Bond actors in those 2 sets.

If the DVDs were packaged in 4 sets split up chronologically the most I'd get in 2 sets would be 7 of the 11 that I want and that would only encompass 2 different Bond actors.

If the DVDs were packaged in 3 sets by actor (1 set would have Lazenby, Dalton, and Brosnan), I would be able to get 8 that I want, but there would be more that I don't want as compared to the current grouping. Split up by actor would also only give me 2 Bond actors and would cost me more because I'd have to buy 13 DVDs to get 8.

So I keep hearing complaints about how the sets are split up, but when I actually figured it out it works out best for me the way they are doing it (assuming they are going to have sets in some form). The current groupings allow you to get a sampling of many of the Bond eras without having to buy the entire bunch. The best option would be if they sold the sets like this so you could get a sampling, but at the same time release the titles individually (maybe at a slight price premium compared to the sets) so that you can fill in a hole or two. I'm going to hope they release them individually in a few months so that I can pick up the other 2 I want. If they don't, I'll either wait until there is an HD release or see if individual UE titles show up on eBay or craigslist.

Yeah, well there's about 10 I'd want to get also, but for me they're all split up 1 to 2 titles per set, with 3-4 titles in Vol.3 - so it's not so easy for the rest of us. Also, having them in the cases in such a bassackwards order is also way lame.

I hate slim cases, although I am sort of glad that the boxes themselves aren't too big... but I hat slim cases.

... there's no pleasing me.

I really like the slim cases. They take up so much less space on the shelf. Plus I've never had a floater in a slim case.

What I'm going to do is take them out of the boxes and put them in order. That's what I did with my old Bond DVDs, I put the dvds in order even though they didnt come in that particular box. It makes it alot easier to pick out a certain bond that I want to watch, its easy for me to remember the chronological order, but it would be hard to remember what bond came in what set.

I really like the slim cases though. The old 20 bonds took up alot of space on my shelf. Since I sold the old bonds, I can get the new ones for less than what I sold them for and save shelf space.
