Oh, and the lengths I went to to get hold of a copy - I live in the UK and Best Buy don't ship outside the USA.

I had to ask someone to buy me a copy and send it on! Never mind, didn't cost any more, just took a bit of organising.

Not only that, I had the smug satisfaction of owning something that a lot of people wanted but couldn't get!

Has anyone seen this lately at their local Best Buy? It's not showing up anymore at bestbuy.com. I know that Amazon has it available, but they want $22.49 for it and it ships in 4-6 weeks. I remember that Best Buy's price was $19.99.

The original release stated "Best Buy Exclusive while stock lasts

You will note the different sizes of the text, which is what the label on the box looked like :-)

This is open to interpretation - it could mean

It was a limited edition - or
It was limited edition, but only "limited" in that it was exclusive to Best Buy until their initial stock lasted, at which point they wouldn't have it "exclusively" but would have the general unlimited (and identical!) release that everyone else has at some time in the future. Or maybe wouldn't have it at all.

To be honest I think the whole thing was an exercise in complete pointlessness!

"4-6 weeks" by the way, is Amazon-speke for "we have no idea"

If it's a title that has recently gone out of print, then it invariably means a long wait for an email from Amazon saying they couldn't get hold of any more stock.

If amazon hadn't given the one they list a new release date, I'd have suspected a "phantom listing" generated by lots of people selling copies on MarketPlace.

It doesn't seem to have appeared anywhere else.

Tons of them at my local stores as well. I don't think there is a big market for 50's sci-fi.

its not OOP. Amazon has it listed, and I would assume that it is getting a wide release to all retailers now. Best buy has had multiple exclusive contracts that allow them titles for a certain amount of time

Hi:
Are you saying that the "Classic Sci-Fi Ultimate Collection" is now listed at Amazon.com? I just checked that link and all I can find is independent sellers listing it from $99.99 up to $2340.00. Can't find it on BestBuy.com, either.
I've been watching it on eBay and it usually goes for over $100.
As far as I know it is OOP and any copies in BestBuy stores are from the original issue last fall.

Doug, you were looking at an old post. It was exclusive to BB, where it sat on shelves for months at 19.99. Then it was at Amazon for like $20 for awhile. Now it is sold out everywhere and only available from private sellers.
There is a more recent thread on this if you search.

Trevor:
Thanks.
I thought I was looking at recent posts, and that it had been re-issued.
Next time I'll check the message date before I reply.
Duh.
